12 H1980 Go [H8800] H559 and say [H8804] H1732 unto David H1696 , Thus saith [H8765] H3068 the LORD H5190 , I offer [H8802] H7969 thee three H977 things; choose [H8798] H259 thee one H6213 of them, that I may do it unto thee [H8799] .

13 H1410 So Gad H935 came [H8799] H1732 to David H5046 , and told [H8686] H559 him, and said [H8799] H7651 unto him, Shall seven H8141 years H7458 of famine H935 come [H8799] H776 unto thee in thy land H5127 ? or wilt thou flee [H8800] H7969 three H2320 months H6440 before H6862 thine enemies H7291 , while they pursue [H8802] H7969 thee? or that there be three H3117 days H1698 ' pestilence H776 in thy land H3045 ? now advise [H8798] H7200 , and see [H8798] H1697 what answer H7725 I shall return [H8686] H7971 to him that sent [H8802] me.

14 H1732 And David H559 said [H8799] H1410 unto Gad H3966 , I am in a great H6887 strait [H8804] H5307 : let us fall [H8799] H3027 now into the hand H3068 of the LORD H7356 ; for his mercies H7227 are great H5307 : and let me not fall [H8799] H3027 into the hand H120 of man.

15 H3068 So the LORD H5414 sent [H8799] H1698 a pestilence H3478 upon Israel H1242 from the morning H6256 even to the time H4150 appointed H4191 : and there died [H8799] H5971 of the people H1835 from Dan H884 even to Beersheba H7657 seventy H505 thousand H376 men.

16 H4397 And when the angel H7971 stretched out [H8799] H3027 his hand H3389 upon Jerusalem H7843 to destroy [H8763] H3068 it, the LORD H5162 repented [H8735] H7451 him of the evil H559 , and said [H8799] H4397 to the angel H7843 that destroyed [H8688] H5971 the people H7227 , It is enough H7503 : stay [H8685] H3027 now thine hand H4397 . And the angel H3068 of the LORD H1637 was by the threshingplace H728 of Araunah H2983 the Jebusite.

17 H1732 And David H559 spake [H8799] H3068 unto the LORD H7200 when he saw [H8800] H4397 the angel H5221 that smote [H8688] H5971 the people H559 , and said [H8799] H2398 , Lo, I have sinned [H8804] H5753 , and I have done wickedly [H8689] H6629 : but these sheep H6213 , what have they done [H8804] H3027 ? let thine hand H1 , I pray thee, be against me, and against my father's H1004 house.

18 H1410 And Gad H935 came [H8799] H3117 that day H1732 to David H559 , and said [H8799] H5927 unto him, Go up [H8798] H6965 , rear [H8685] H4196 an altar H3068 unto the LORD H1637 in the threshingfloor H728 of Araunah H2983 the Jebusite.

19 H1732 And David H1697 , according to the saying H1410 of Gad H5927 , went up [H8799] H3068 as the LORD H6680 commanded [H8765] .

20 H728 And Araunah H8259 looked [H8686] H7200 , and saw [H8799] H4428 the king H5650 and his servants H5674 coming on [H8802] H728 toward him: and Araunah H3318 went out [H8799] H7812 , and bowed [H8691] H4428 himself before the king H639 on his face H776 upon the ground.

21 H728 And Araunah H559 said [H8799] H113 , Wherefore is my lord H4428 the king H935 come [H8804] H5650 to his servant H1732 ? And David H559 said [H8799] H7069 , To buy [H8800] H1637 the threshingfloor H1129 of thee, to build [H8800] H4196 an altar H3068 unto the LORD H4046 , that the plague H6113 may be stayed [H8735] H5971 from the people.

22 H728 And Araunah H559 said [H8799] H1732 unto David H113 , Let my lord H4428 the king H3947 take [H8799] H5927 and offer up [H8686] H2896 what seemeth good H5869 unto him H7200 : behold [H8798] H1241 , here be oxen H5930 for burnt sacrifice H4173 , and threshing instruments H3627 and other instruments H1241 of the oxen H6086 for wood.

23 H728 All these things did Araunah H4428 , as a king H5414 , give [H8804] H4428 unto the king H728 . And Araunah H559 said [H8799] H4428 unto the king H3068 , The LORD H430 thy God H7521 accept [H8799] thee.

24 H4428 And the king H559 said [H8799] H728 unto Araunah H7069 , Nay; but I will surely [H8800] H7069 buy [H8799] H4242 it of thee at a price H5927 : neither will I offer [H8686] H5930 burnt offerings H3068 unto the LORD H430 my God H2600 of that which doth cost me nothing H1732 . So David H7069 bought [H8799] H1637 the threshingfloor H1241 and the oxen H2572 for fifty H8255 shekels H3701 of silver.

25 H1732 And David H1129 built [H8799] H4196 there an altar H3068 unto the LORD H5927 , and offered [H8686] H5930 burnt offerings H8002 and peace offerings H3068 . So the LORD H6279 was intreated [H8735] H776 for the land H4046 , and the plague H6113 was stayed [H8735] H3478 from Israel.

ERV⁽ⁱ⁾ ¹ And again the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he moved David against them, saying, Go, number Israel and Judah. ² And the king said to Joab the captain of the host, which was with him, Go now to and fro through all the tribes of Israel, from Dan even to Beer-sheba, and number ye the people, that I may know the sum of the people. ³ And Joab said unto the king, Now the LORD thy God add unto the people, how many soever they be, an hundredfold, and may the eyes of my lord the king see it: but why doth my lord the king delight in this thing? ⁴ Notwithstanding the king’s word prevailed against Joab, and against the captains of the host. And Joab and the captains of the host went out from the presence of the king, to number the people of Israel. ⁵ And they passed over Jordan, and pitched in Aroer, on the right side of the city that is in the middle of the valley of Gad, and unto Jazer. ⁶ then they came to Gilead, and to the land of Tahtim-hodshi; and they came to Dan-jaan, and round about to Zidon, ⁷ and came to the strong hold of Tyre, and to all the cities of the Hivites, and of the Canaanites: and they went out to the south of Judah, at Beer-sheba. ⁸ So when they had gone to and fro through all the land, they came to Jerusalem at the end of nine months and twenty days. ⁹ And Joab gave up the sum of the numbering of the people unto the king: and there were in Israel eight hundred thousand valiant men that drew the sword; and the men of Judah were five hundred thousand men. ¹⁰ And David’s heart smote him after that he had numbered the people. And David said unto the LORD, I have sinned greatly in that I have done: but now, O LORD, put away, I beseech thee, the iniquity of thy servant; for I have done very foolishly. ¹¹ And when David rose up in the morning, the word of the LORD came unto the prophet Gad, David’s seer, saying, ¹² Go and speak unto David, Thus saith the LORD, I offer thee three things; choose thee one of them, that I may do it unto thee. ¹³ So Gad came to David, and told him, and said unto him, Shall seven years of famine come unto thee in thy land? or wilt thou flee three months before thy foes while they pursue thee? or shall there be three days pestilence in thy land? now advise thee, and consider what answer I shall return to him that sent me. ¹⁴ And David said unto Gad, I am in a great strait: let us fall now into the hand of the LORD; for his mercies are great: and let me not fall into the hand of man. ¹⁵ So the LORD sent a pestilence upon Israel from the morning even to the time appointed: and there died of the people from Dan even to Beer-sheba seventy thousand men. ¹⁶ And when the angel stretched out his hand toward Jerusalem to destroy it, the LORD repented him of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed the people, It is enough; now stay thine hand. And the angel of the LORD was by the threshing-floor of Araunah the Jebusite. ¹⁷ And David spake unto the LORD when he saw the angel that smote the people, and said, Lo, I have sinned, and I have done perversely: but these sheep, what have they done? let thine hand, I pray thee, be against me, and against my father’s house. ¹⁸ And Gad came that day to David, and said unto him, Go up, rear an altar unto the LORD in the threshing-floor of Araunah the Jebusite. ¹⁹ And David went up according to the saying of Gad, as the LORD commanded. ²⁰ And Araunah looked forth, and saw the king and his servants coming on toward him: and Araunah went out, and bowed himself before the king with his face to the ground. ²¹ And Araunah said, Wherefore is my lord the king come to his servant? And David said, To buy the threshing-floor of thee, to build an altar unto the LORD, that the plague may be stayed from the people. ²² And Araunah said unto David, Let my lord the king take and offer up what seemeth good unto him: behold, the oxen for the burnt offering, and the threshing instruments and the furniture of the oxen for the wood: ²³ all this, O king, doth Araunah give unto the king. And Araunah said unto the king, The LORD thy God accept thee. ²⁴ And the king said unto Araunah, Nay; but I will verily buy it of thee at a price: neither will I offer burnt offerings unto the LORD my God which cost me nothing. So David bought the threshing-floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver. ²⁵ And David built there an altar unto the LORD, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. So the LORD was entreated for the land, and the plague was stayed from Israel.
