  1 H259 Now there was a certain H376 man H7436 of Ramathaimzophim, H2022 of mount H669 Ephraim, H8034 and his name H511 was Elkanah, H1121 the son H3395 of Jeroham, H1121 the son H453 of Elihu, H1121 the son H8459 of Tohu, H1121 the son H6689 of Zuph, H673 an Ephrathite:
  2 H8147 And he had two H802 wives; H8034 the name H259 of the one H2584 was Hannah, H8034 and the name H8145 of the other H6444 Peninnah: H6444 and Peninnah H1961 had H3206 children, H2584 but Hannah H369 had no H3206 children.
  3 H1931 And this H376 man H5927 went H5892 up out of his city H3117 yearly H7812 to worship H2076 and to sacrifice H3068 to the LORD H6635 of hosts H7887 in Shiloh. H8147 And the two H1121 sons H5941 of Eli, H2652 Hophni H6372 and Phinehas, H3548 the priests H3068 of the LORD, H8033 were there.
  4 H3117 And when the time H511 was that Elkanah H2076 offered, H5414 he gave H6444 to Peninnah H802 his wife, H3605 and to all H1121 her sons H1323 and her daughters, H4490 portions:
  5 H2584 But to Hannah H5414 he gave H639 a worthy H4490 portion; H157 for he loved H2584 Hannah: H3068 but the LORD H5462 had shut H7358 up her womb.
  6 H6869 And her adversary H1571 also H3707 provoked H3708 her sore, H7481 for to make her fret, H3588 because H3068 the LORD H5462 had shut H7358 up her womb.
  7 H6213 And as he did H3651 so H8141 year H8141 by year, H1767 when H5927 she went H1004 up to the house H3068 of the LORD, H3651 so H3707 she provoked H1058 her; therefore she wept, H398 and did not eat.
  8 H559 Then said H511 Elkanah H376 her husband H2584 to her, Hannah, H4100 why H1058 weep H4100 you? and why H398 eat H4100 you not? and why H3824 is your heart H7489 grieved? H2896 am not I better H6235 to you than ten H1121 sons?
  9 H2584 So Hannah H6965 rose H310 up after H398 they had eaten H7887 in Shiloh, H310 and after H8354 they had drunk. H5941 Now Eli H3548 the priest H3427 sat H3678 on a seat H4201 by a post H1964 of the temple H3068 of the LORD.
  10 H4751 And she was in bitterness H5315 of soul, H6419 and prayed H3068 to the LORD, H1058 and wept sore.
  11 H5087 And she vowed H5088 a vow, H559 and said, H3068 O LORD H6635 of hosts, H518 if H7200 you will indeed look H6040 on the affliction H519 of your handmaid, H2142 and remember H7911 me, and not forget H519 your handmaid, H5414 but will give H519 to your handmaid H582 a man H2233 child, H5414 then I will give H3068 him to the LORD H3605 all H3117 the days H2416 of his life, H3808 and there shall no H4177 razor H5927 come H7218 on his head.
  12 H1961 And it came H7235 to pass, as she continued H6419 praying H6440 before H3068 the LORD, H5941 that Eli H8104 marked H6310 her mouth.
  13 H2584 Now Hannah, H1696 she spoke H3820 in her heart; H7535 only H8193 her lips H5128 moved, H6963 but her voice H8085 was not heard: H5941 therefore Eli H2803 thought H7910 she had been drunken.
  14 H5941 And Eli H559 said H5704 to her, How H5704 long H7937 will you be drunken? H5493 put H5493 away H3196 your wine from you.
  15 H2584 And Hannah H6030 answered H559 and said, H3808 No, H113 my lord, H802 I am a woman H7186 of a sorrowful H7307 spirit: H8354 I have drunk H3808 neither H3196 wine H7941 nor strong drink, H8210 but have poured H5315 out my soul H6440 before H3068 the LORD.
  16 H5414 Count H519 not your handmaid H1323 for a daughter H1100 of Belial: H7230 for out of the abundance H7879 of my complaint H3708 and grief H1696 have I spoken H5704 till now. H2008
  17 H5941 Then Eli H6030 answered H559 and said, H3212 Go H7965 in peace: H430 and the God H3478 of Israel H5414 grant H7596 you your petition H7592 that you have asked of him.
  18 H559 And she said, H8198 Let your handmaid H4672 find H2580 grace H5869 in your sight. H802 So the woman H3212 went H1870 her way, H398 and did eat, H6440 and her countenance H3808 was no H5750 more sad.
  19 H7925 And they rose H1242 up in the morning H7925 early, H7812 and worshipped H6440 before H3068 the LORD, H7725 and returned, H935 and came H1004 to their house H7414 to Ramah: H511 and Elkanah H3045 knew H2584 Hannah H802 his wife; H3068 and the LORD H2142 remembered her.
  20 H1961 Why it came H3117 to pass, when the time H8622 was come H2584 about after Hannah H2029 had conceived, H3205 that she bore H1121 a son, H7121 and called H8034 his name H8050 Samuel, H3588 saying, Because H7592 I have asked H3068 him of the LORD.
  21 H376 And the man H511 Elkanah, H3605 and all H1004 his house, H5927 went H2076 up to offer H3068 to the LORD H3117 the yearly H2077 sacrifice, H5088 and his vow.
  22 H2584 But Hannah H5927 went H559 not up; for she said H376 to her husband, H5704 I will not go up until H5288 the child H1580 be weaned, H935 and then I will bring H7200 him, that he may appear H854 before H6440 H3068 the LORD, H8033 and there H3427 abide H5769 for ever.
  23 H511 And Elkanah H376 her husband H559 said H6213 to her, Do H5869 what seems H2896 you good; H3427 tarry H5704 until H1580 you have weaned H389 him; only H3068 the LORD H6965 establish H1697 his word. H802 So the woman H3427 stayed, H1121 and gave her son H3243 suck H5704 until H1580 she weaned him.
  24 H834 And when H1580 she had weaned H5927 him, she took H7969 him up with her, with three H6499 bullocks, H259 and one H374 ephah H7058 of flour, H5035 and a bottle H3196 of wine, H935 and brought H1004 him to the house H3068 of the LORD H7887 in Shiloh: H5288 and the child H5288 was young.
  25 H7819 And they slew H6499 a bullock, H935 and brought H5288 the child H5941 to Eli.
  26 H559 And she said, H994 Oh H113 my lord, H5315 as your soul H2416 lives, H113 my lord, H802 I am the woman H5324 that stood H2088 by you here, H6419 praying H3068 to the LORD.
  27 H2088 For this H5288 child H6419 I prayed; H3068 and the LORD H5414 has given H7596 me my petition H834 which H7592 I asked of him:
  28 H1571 Therefore also H7592 I have lent H3068 him to the LORD; H3117 as long H3117 as he lives H7592 he shall be lent H3068 to the LORD. H7812 And he worshipped H3068 the LORD H8033 there.
