Jeremiah 37 And king Zedekiah the son of Josiah reigned instead of Coniah the son of Jehoiakim, whom Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon made king in the land of Judah.

1 H4428 And king H6667 Zedekiah H1121 the son H2977 of Josiah H4427 reigned H8478 instead H3659 of Coniah H1121 the son H3079 of Jehoiakim, H834 whom H5019 Nebuchadrezzar H4428 king H894 of Babylon H4428 made king H776 in the land H3063 of Judah.

2 H3808 But neither H5650 he, nor his servants, H5971 nor the people H776 of the land, H8085 did listen H1697 to the words H3068 of the LORD, H834 which H1696 he spoke H5030 by the prophet H3414 Jeremiah.

3 H6667 And Zedekiah H4428 the king H7971 sent H3081 Jehucal H1121 the son H8018 of Shelemiah H6846 and Zephaniah H1121 the son H4641 of Maaseiah H3548 the priest H5030 to the prophet H3414 Jeremiah, H559 saying, H6419 Pray H4994 now H3068 to the LORD H430 our God for us.

4 H3414 Now Jeremiah H935 came H3318 in and went H8432 out among H5971 the people: H5414 for they had not put H1004 him into prison. H3608

5 H6547 Then Pharaoh’s H2428 army H3318 was come H3318 forth H4714 out of Egypt: H3778 and when the Chaldeans H6696 that besieged H3389 Jerusalem H8085 heard H8088 tidings H5927 of them, they departed H3389 from Jerusalem.

6 H1961 Then came H1697 the word H3068 of the LORD H5030 to the prophet H3414 Jeremiah H559 saying,

7 H3541 Thus H559 said H3068 the LORD, H430 the God H3478 of Israel; H3541 Thus H559 shall you say H4428 to the king H3063 of Judah, H7971 that sent H1875 you to me to inquire H2005 of me; Behold, H6547 Pharaoh’s H2428 army, H3318 which is come H3318 forth H5833 to help H7725 you, shall return H4714 to Egypt H776 into their own land.

8 H3778 And the Chaldeans H7725 shall come H7725 again, H3898 and fight H5921 against H2063 this H5892 city, H3920 and take H8313 it, and burn H784 it with fire.

9 H3541 Thus H559 said H3068 the LORD; H5377 Deceive H5315 not yourselves, H559 saying, H3778 The Chaldeans H1980 shall surely depart H1980 from us: for they shall not depart.

10 H518 For though H5221 you had smitten H3605 the whole H2428 army H3778 of the Chaldeans H3898 that fight H7604 against you, and there remained H1856 but wounded H582 men H6965 among them, yet should they rise H376 up every man H168 in his tent, H8313 and burn H2063 this H5892 city H784 with fire.

11 H1961 And it came H2428 to pass, that when the army H3778 of the Chaldeans H5927 was broken H3389 up from Jerusalem H6440 for fear H6547 of Pharaoh’s H2428 army,

12 H3414 Then Jeremiah H3318 went H3318 forth H3389 out of Jerusalem H3212 to go H776 into the land H1144 of Benjamin, H2505 to separate H8033 himself there H8432 in the middle H5971 of the people.

13 H8179 And when he was in the gate H1144 of Benjamin, H1167 a captain H6488 of the ward H8033 was there, H8034 whose name H3376 was Irijah, H1121 the son H8018 of Shelemiah, H1121 the son H2608 of Hananiah; H8610 and he took H3414 Jeremiah H5030 the prophet, H559 saying, H5307 You fall H3778 away to the Chaldeans.

14 H559 Then said H3414 Jeremiah, H8267 It is false; H5307 I fall H3778 not away to the Chaldeans. H8085 But he listened H3376 not to him: so Irijah H8610 took H3414 Jeremiah, H935 and brought H8269 him to the princes.

15 H8269 Why the princes H7107 were wroth H3414 with Jeremiah, H5221 and smote H5414 him, and put H612 him in prison H1004 in the house H3083 of Jonathan H5608 the scribe: H6213 for they had made H3608 that the prison.

16 H3588 When H3414 Jeremiah H935 was entered H413 into H1004 the dungeon, H953 H413 and into H2588 the cabins, H3414 and Jeremiah H3427 had remained H8033 there H7227 many H3117 days;

17 H6667 Then Zedekiah H4428 the king H7971 sent, H3947 and took H4428 him out: and the king H7592 asked H5643 him secretly H1004 in his house, H559 and said, H1697 Is there any word H3068 from the LORD? H3414 And Jeremiah H559 said, H559 There is: for, said H5414 he, you shall be delivered H3027 into the hand H4428 of the king H894 of Babylon.

18 H3414 Moreover Jeremiah H559 said H4428 to king H6667 Zedekiah, H4100 What H2398 have I offended H5650 against you, or against your servants, H2088 or against this H5971 people, H5414 that you have put H3608 me in prison?

19 H346 Where H5030 are now your prophets H834 which H5012 prophesied H559 to you, saying, H4428 The king H894 of Babylon H935 shall not come H5921 against H5921 you, nor against H2063 this H776 land?

20 H8085 Therefore hear H6256 now, H4994 I pray H113 you, O my lord H4428 the king: H8467 let my supplication, H4994 I pray H5307 you, be accepted H6440 before H7725 you; that you cause me not to return H1004 to the house H3083 of Jonathan H5608 the scribe, H3808 lest H4191 I die H8033 there.

21 H6667 Then Zedekiah H4428 the king H6680 commanded H6485 that they should commit H3414 Jeremiah H2691 into the court H4307 of the prison, H5414 and that they should give H3117 him daily H3603 a piece H3899 of bread H644 out of the bakers’ H2351 street, H5704 until H3605 all H3899 the bread H5892 in the city H8552 were spent. H3414 Thus Jeremiah H3427 remained H2691 in the court H4307 of the prison.
