Jeremiah 37 And Zedekiah the son of Josiah reigned as king, instead of Coniah the son of Jehoiakim, whom Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon made king in the land of Judah.

1 H6667 And Zedekiah H1121 the son H2977 of Josiah H4427 reigned H4428 as king, H3659 instead of Coniah H1121 the son H3079 of Jehoiakim, H5019 whom Nebuchadrezzar H4428 king H894 of Babylon H4427 made king H776 in the land H3063 of Judah.

2 H5650 But neither he, nor his servants, H5971 nor the people H776 of the land, H8085 did hearken H1697 unto the words H3068 of Jehovah, H1696 which he spake H3027 by H5030 the prophet H3414 Jeremiah.

3 H6667 And Zedekiah H4428 the king H7971 sent H3081 Jehucal H1121 the son H8018 of Shelemiah, H6846 and Zephaniah H1121 the son H4641 of Maaseiah, H3548 the priest, H5030 to the prophet H3414 Jeremiah, H559 saying, H6419 Pray H3068 now unto Jehovah H430 our God for us.

4 H3414 Now Jeremiah H935 came in H3318 and went out H8432 among H5971 the people; H5414 for they had not put H1004 him into prison.

5 H6547 And Pharaoh's H2428 army H3318 was come forth H3318 out H4714 of Egypt; H3778 and when the Chaldeans H6696 that were besieging H3389 Jerusalem H8085 heard H8088 tidings H3389 of them, they brake up from Jerusalem.

6 H1697 Then came the word H3068 of Jehovah H5030 unto the prophet H3414 Jeremiah, H559 saying,

7 H559 Thus saith H3068 Jehovah, H430 the God H3478 of Israel, H559 Thus shall ye say H4428 to the king H3063 of Judah, H7971 that sent H1875 you unto me to inquire H6547 of me: Behold, Pharaoh's H2428 army, H3318 which is come forth H5833 to help H7725 you, shall return H4714 to Egypt H776 into their own land.

8 H3778 And the Chaldeans H7725 shall come again, H3898 and fight H5892 against this city; H3920 and they shall take H8313 it, and burn H784 it with fire.

9 H559 Thus saith H3068 Jehovah, H5377 Deceive H5315 not yourselves, H559 saying, H3778 The Chaldeans H1980 shall surely H3212 depart H3212 from us; for they shall not depart.

10 H5221 For though ye had smitten H2428 the whole army H3778 of the Chaldeans H3898 that fight H7604 against you, and there remained H1856 but wounded H582 men H6965 among them, yet would they rise up H376 every man H168 in his tent, H8313 and burn H5892 this city H784 with fire.

11 H2428 And it came to pass that, when the army H3778 of the Chaldeans H5927 was broken up H3389 from Jerusalem H6440 for fear H6547 of Pharaoh's H2428 army,

12 H3414 then Jeremiah H3318 went forth H3318 out H3389 of Jerusalem H3212 to go H776 into the land H1144 of Benjamin, H8432 to receive his portion there, in the midst H5971 of the people.

13 H8179 And when he was in the gate H1144 of Benjamin, H1167 a captain H6488 of the ward H8034 was there, whose name H3376 was Irijah, H1121 the son H8018 of Shelemiah, H1121 the son H2608 of Hananiah; H8610 and he laid hold H3414 on Jeremiah H5030 the prophet, H559 saying, H5307 Thou art falling away H3778 to the Chaldeans.

14 H559 Then said H3414 Jeremiah, H8267 It is false; H5307 I am not falling away H3778 to the Chaldeans. H8085 But he hearkened H3376 not to him; so Irijah H8610 laid hold H3414 on Jeremiah, H8610 and brought H8269 him to the princes.

15 H8269 And the princes H7107 were wroth H3414 with Jeremiah, H5221 and smote H5414 him, and put H612 him in prison H1004 in the house H3083 of Jonathan H5608 the scribe; H6213 for they had made H3608 that the prison.

16 H3414 When Jeremiah H935 was come into H1004 the dungeon-house, H2588 and into the cells, H3414 and Jeremiah H3427 had remained H7227 there many H3117 days;

17 H6667 Then Zedekiah H4428 the king H7971 sent, H3947 and fetched H4428 him: and the king H7592 asked H5643 him secretly H1004 in his house, H559 and said, H1697 Is there any word H3068 from Jehovah? H3414 And Jeremiah H559 said, H3426 There is. H559 He said H5414 also, Thou shalt be delivered H3027 into the hand H4428 of the king H894 of Babylon.

18 H3414 Moreover Jeremiah H559 said H4428 unto king H6667 Zedekiah, H2398 Wherein have I sinned H5650 against thee, or against thy servants, H5971 or against this people, H5414 that ye have put H1004 me in prison?

19 H346 Where now H5030 are your prophets H5012 that prophesied H559 unto you, saying, H4428 The king H894 of Babylon H935 shall not come H776 against you, nor against this land?

20 H8085 And now hear, H113 I pray thee, O my lord H4428 the king: H8467 let my supplication, H5307 I pray thee, be presented H6440 before H7725 thee, that thou cause me not to return H1004 to the house H3083 of Jonathan H5608 the scribe, H4191 lest I die there.

21 H6667 Then Zedekiah H4428 the king H6680 commanded, H6485 and they committed H3414 Jeremiah H2691 into the court H4307 of the guard; H5414 and they gave H3117 him daily H3603 a loaf H3899 of bread H644 out of the bakers' H2351 street, H3899 until all the bread H5892 in the city H8552 was spent. H3414 Thus Jeremiah H3427 remained H2691 in the court H4307 of the guard.
