1. as adverb:

(a) expressingcontinuance, persistence, usually of the past or present, still, yet, Gen 18:22 ואברהם עודנו עמֵד and A., he was still standing before ׳י (note often so עוֺדֶנּוּ after cas. pend., Gen 44:14; 1Sam 13:7; 1Kgs 12:2; Jer 33:1; 2Chr 34:3), 2Chr 29:7 הן עוד היום גדול the day is still high, 2Chr 31:14; 2Chr 43:7 הַעוֺד אֲבִיכֶם חַי, v2Chr 43:27; 2Chr 45:3; Exod 4:18; Exod 9:2; Num 19:13; Judg 6:24; Judg 8:20; 1Kgs 20:32 הַעוֺדֶנּוּ חַי 2Sam 14:32 (but iii. 558 עַד), 2Sam 18:14; Isa 5:25 ועור יָדוֺ נְטוּיָה; Isa 10:32 עוֺד הַיּוֺם בְּנֹב לַעֲמֹד still to-day (such is his haste) will he tarry in Nob; 1Kgs 22:44 עוד חעם מְזַכְּחִים the people were still sacrificing, etc. (so 2Kgs 12:4 +); 2Sam 1:9 כיכֿלעֿוד נפשׁי בי Job 27:3 (see כֹּל 1 f; Mic 6:10 (see הֲ 1 b end, and Ke; but also We Now); Lam 4:17 the suffix is anticipatory, either of eyes (Kt) or our (Qr ᵐ5), in poetry for כָּלוֺת עוֺד עֵינֵינוּ; but Dy Löhr al. read עַד מָה for ׳עַ Bi1 Wild simply עוֺד 2Chr 14:6 read either עוֺדֵנוּ (suffic 1 plural antic. of לפנינו), or עוֺד. Twice, peculiarly, עוֺד לֹא still not (German noch nicht) i.e. not yet (in class. Hebrew טֶרֶם), Jer 40:5 עוֺדֶנּוּ לא ישׁוב, 2Chr 20:23 ועוד העם לא הֵכִינוּ לבבם (the finite verb on accusative of לֹא). Sq. וְ Num 11:33 הבשׂר עודנו בין חרה בעם ׳שׁנּיהם ֗֗֗ ואף י the flesh was still between their teeth ..., and ( = when) etc., (compare Ps 78:30f.; Job 8:12); and often in the phrase (מְדַבְּרִים) מְדַבֵּר (׳עוֺדָם וגו) עוֺדֶנּוּ he (they, etc.) was (were) still speaking, and (= when) etc., Gen 29:9 עודנו מְדַבֵּר עמם ורחל באה, 1Kgs 1:22; 1Kgs 1:42; 2Kgs 6:33; Esth 6:14; Dan 9:20; Dan 9:21, so עוֺד זֶה ֗֗֗ Job 1:16; Job 1:17 (+ vJob 1:18 for עַד): and of the future, 1Kgs 1:14; Isa 65:24 עוֺד הֵם מְדַבְּרִים ואני אשִׁמע); compare Exod 9:17.
\ \ \ (b) Expressing addition or repetition, still, yet, more, Gen 7:4 כי לימים עוד שׁבעה after yet seven days, Gen 8:10; Gen 8:12; Gen 29:27; Gen 29:30 עוד שׁבע שׁנים אחרות, Gen 45:6; 2Kgs 6:33; Isa 1:5; Hab 2:3 כִּי עוֺד חָזוֺן לַמּוֺעֵד (compare Dan 10:14; Dan 11:2; Dan 11:27; Dan 11:35), Jer 13:27 אַחֲרֵי מָתַי עוֺד after how long still ? with stress on the idea of continuance, Gen 46:29 וַיֵּבְךְ עַל צַוָּארָיו עוֺד still going on (AV. a good while), Ruth 1:14; Ps 84:5 עוד יהללוך they will be still praising thee, Job 34:23 with עוֺד prefixed for emphasis, Exod 11:1 ׳עוד נגע אחד אביא על פ, Isa 49:20; Isa 56:8 עוֺד ׳אֲקַבֵּץ וגו, Ezek 8:13; Ezek 8:15; Ps 42:6; Ps 92:15 +; in the phrase עוֺד מְעַט וְ followed by perfect consecutive, Exod 17:4 עוד מעט וּסְקָלֻנִי yet a little, and they will stone me, Hos 1:4; Jer 51:33, compare Ps 37:10; Isa 10:25; Isa 29:17 simil. When the continuance is limited by its nature to a single occurrence, עוֺד becomes = again, Gen 4:25; Gen 9:11 לא יִכָרֵת כל בשׂר עוד, Gen 18:29 וַיֹּסֶף עוֺד לְדַבֵּר and he added still to speak, i.e. he spake yet again (so often with יָסַף; see √), Gen 24:20 וַ֫תָּרָץ עוֺד and she ran again, Gen 29:33 וַתַּ֫הַר עוֺד, Gen 35:9; Gen 37:9; Exod 3:15; Exod 4:6; Deut 3:26; 1Sam 10:22 + often; with עוֺד prefixed, Hos 12:10; Jer 31:4; Jer 31:5; Jer 31:23; Jer 32:15; Jer 33:12; Jer 33:13 לא ֗֗֗ עוֺד not again, no more, Deut 13:17; Deut 34:10.
