28 Καὶ (And) προσελθὼν (having come up) εἷς (one) τῶν (of the) γραμματέων (scribes), ἀκούσας (having heard) αὐτῶν (them) συζητούντων (reasoning together), ἰδὼν* (having seen) ὅτι (that) καλῶς (well) ἀπεκρίθη (He answered) αὐτοῖς (them), ἐπηρώτησεν (he questioned) αὐτόν (Him), “Ποία (Which) ἐστὶν (is) ἐντολὴ (commandment) πρώτη (the first) πάντων (of all)?”
29 Ἀπεκρίθη (Answered) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Ὅτι (The) Πρώτη (foremost) ἐστίν (is), ‘Ἄκουε (Hear this) Ἰσραήλ (O Israel): Κύριος (The Lord) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) ἡμῶν (of us), Κύριος (the Lord) εἷς (One) ἐστιν (is),
30 καὶ (and) ἀγαπήσεις (you shall love) Κύριον (the Lord) τὸν (-) Θεόν (God) σου (of you) ἐξ (with) ὅλης (all) τῆς (the) καρδίας (heart) σου (of you), καὶ (and) ἐξ (with) ὅλης (all) τῆς (the) ψυχῆς (soul) σου (of you), καὶ (and) ἐξ (with) ὅλης (all) τῆς (the) διανοίας (mind) σου (of you), καὶ (and) ἐξ (with) ὅλης (all) τῆς (the) ἰσχύος (strength) σου (of you).’
31 δευτέρα (The second) αὕτη (this): ‘Ἀγαπήσεις (You shall love) τὸν (the) πλησίον (neighbor) σου (of you) ὡς (as) σεαυτόν (yourself).’ μείζων (Greater) τούτων (than these) ἄλλη (another) ἐντολὴ (commandment) οὐκ (not) ἔστιν (there is).”
32 Καὶ (And) εἶπεν (said) αὐτῷ (to Him) ὁ (the) γραμματεύς (scribe), “Καλῶς (Right), Διδάσκαλε (Teacher), ἐπ’ (according to) ἀληθείας (truth) εἶπες (You have spoken) ὅτι (that) εἷς (One) ἐστιν (He is), καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) ἔστιν (there is) ἄλλος (another) πλὴν (besides) αὐτοῦ (Him),
33 καὶ (and) τὸ (-) ἀγαπᾶν (to love) αὐτὸν (Him) ἐξ (with) ὅλης (all) τῆς (the) καρδίας (heart) καὶ (and) ἐξ (with) ὅλης (all) τῆς (the) συνέσεως (understanding) καὶ (and) ἐξ (with) ὅλης (all) τῆς (the) ἰσχύος (strength), καὶ (and) τὸ (-) ἀγαπᾶν (to love) τὸν (the) πλησίον (neighbor) ὡς (as) ἑαυτὸν (oneself) περισσότερόν (more important) ἐστιν (is) πάντων (than all) τῶν (the) ὁλοκαυτωμάτων (burnt offerings) καὶ (and) θυσιῶν (sacrifices).”
