And a great multitude of the people were following Him, and of women, who were mourning and lamenting for Him.
And having turned to them, Jesus said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for Me, but weep for yourselves and for your children.
For behold, the days are coming in which they will say, ‘Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never did bear, and breasts that never nursed.’
Then ‘they will begin to say to the mountains, “Fall upon us,” and to the hills, “Cover us.”’
For if they do these things in the green tree, what might take place in the dry?”
And two other criminals also were being led away to be put to death with Him.
And when they came to the place called The Skull, there they crucified Him, and the criminals, one on the right, and one on the left.
And Jesus was saying, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.” And they cast lots, dividing His garments.
And the people stood beholding. And the rulers also were deriding Him, saying, “He saved others; let Him save Himself, if this is the Christ of God, the Chosen One.”
And the soldiers also mocked Him, coming near, offering Him sour wine,
and saying, “If You are the King of the Jews, save Yourself!”
And there was also this inscription over Him: The King of the Jews.
