Jeremiah 37 And king Zedekiah the son of Josiah reigned instead of Coniah the son of Jehoiakim , whom Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon made king in the land of Judah.

2 H5650 But neither he, nor his servants H5971 , nor the people H776 of the land H8085 , did hearken [H8804] H1697 unto the words H3068 of the LORD H1696 , which he spake [H8765] H3027 by H5030 the prophet H3414 Jeremiah.

3 H6667 And Zedekiah H4428 the king H7971 sent [H8799] H3081 Jehucal H1121 the son H8018 of Shelemiah H6846 and Zephaniah H1121 the son H4641 of Maaseiah H3548 the priest H5030 to the prophet H3414 Jeremiah H559 , saying [H8800] H6419 , Pray [H8690] H3068 now unto the LORD H430 our God for us.

4 H3414 Now Jeremiah H935 came in [H8804] H3318 and went out [H8802] H8432 among H5971 the people H5414 : for they had not put [H8804] H1004 him into prison H3628 .

5 H6547 Then Pharaoh's H2428 army H3318 was come forth [H8804] H4714 out of Egypt H3778 : and when the Chaldeans H6696 that besieged [H8802] H3389 Jerusalem H8085 heard [H8799] H8088 tidings H5927 of them, they departed [H8735] H3389 from Jerusalem.

6 H1697 Then came the word H3068 of the LORD H5030 unto the prophet H3414 Jeremiah H559 , saying [H8800] ,

7 H559 Thus saith [H8804] H3068 the LORD H430 , the God H3478 of Israel H559 ; Thus shall ye say [H8799] H4428 to the king H3063 of Judah H7971 , that sent [H8802] H1875 you unto me to enquire [H8800] H6547 of me; Behold, Pharaoh's H2428 army H3318 , which is come forth [H8802] H5833 to help H7725 you, shall return [H8804] H4714 to Egypt H776 into their own land.

8 H3778 And the Chaldeans H7725 shall come again [H8804] H3898 , and fight [H8738] H5892 against this city H3920 , and take [H8804] H8313 it, and burn [H8804] H784 it with fire.

9 H559 Thus saith [H8804] H3068 the LORD H5377 ; Deceive [H8686] H5315 not yourselves H559 , saying [H8800] H3778 , The Chaldeans H1980 shall surely [H8800] H3212 depart [H8799] H3212 from us: for they shall not depart [H8799] .

10 H5221 For though ye had smitten [H8689] H2428 the whole army H3778 of the Chaldeans H3898 that fight [H8737] H7604 against you, and there remained [H8738] H1856 but wounded [H8794] H582 men H6965 among them, yet should they rise up [H8799] H376 every man H168 in his tent H8313 , and burn [H8804] H5892 this city H784 with fire.

11 H2428 And it came to pass, that when the army H3778 of the Chaldeans H5927 was broken up [H8736] H3389 from Jerusalem H6440 for fear H6547 of Pharaoh's H2428 army,

12 H3414 Then Jeremiah H3318 went forth [H8799] H3389 out of Jerusalem H3212 to go [H8800] H776 into the land H1144 of Benjamin H2505 , to separate [H8687] H8432 himself thence in the midst H5971 of the people.

13 H8179 And when he was in the gate H1144 of Benjamin H1167 , a captain H6488 of the ward H8034 was there, whose name H3376 was Irijah H1121 , the son H8018 of Shelemiah H1121 , the son H2608 of Hananiah H8610 ; and he took [H8799] H3414 Jeremiah H5030 the prophet H559 , saying [H8800] H5307 , Thou fallest away [H8802] H3778 to the Chaldeans.

14 H559 Then said [H8799] H3414 Jeremiah H8267 , It is false H5307 ; I fall not away [H8802] H3778 to the Chaldeans H8085 . But he hearkened [H8804] H3376 not to him: so Irijah H8610 took [H8799] H3414 Jeremiah H935 , and brought [H8686] H8269 him to the princes.

15 H8269 Wherefore the princes H7107 were wroth [H8799] H3414 with Jeremiah H5221 , and smote [H8689] H5414 him, and put [H8804] H612 him in prison H1004 in the house H3083 of Jonathan H5608 the scribe [H8802] H6213 : for they had made [H8804] H3608 that the prison.

16 H3414 When Jeremiah H935 was entered [H8804] H1004 into the dungeon H953 H2588 , and into the cabins H3414 , and Jeremiah H3427 had remained [H8799] H7227 there many H3117 days;

17 H6667 Then Zedekiah H4428 the king H7971 sent [H8799] H3947 , and took him out [H8799] H4428 : and the king H7592 asked [H8799] H5643 him secretly H1004 in his house H559 , and said [H8799] H1697 , Is there any word H3068 from the LORD H3414 ? And Jeremiah H559 said [H8799] H3426 , There is H559 : for, said [H8799] H5414 he, thou shalt be delivered [H8735] H3027 into the hand H4428 of the king H894 of Babylon.

18 H3414 Moreover Jeremiah H559 said [H8799] H4428 unto king H6667 Zedekiah H2398 , What have I offended [H8804] H5650 against thee, or against thy servants H5971 , or against this people H5414 , that ye have put [H8804] H1004 me in prison H3608 ?

19 H346 Where are now H5030 your prophets H5012 which prophesied [H8738] H559 unto you, saying [H8800] H4428 , The king H894 of Babylon H935 shall not come [H8799] H776 against you, nor against this land?

20 H8085 Therefore hear [H8798] H113 now, I pray thee, O my lord H4428 the king H8467 : let my supplication H5307 , I pray thee, be accepted [H8799] H6440 before H7725 thee; that thou cause me not to return [H8686] H1004 to the house H3083 of Jonathan H5608 the scribe [H8802] H4191 , lest I die [H8799] there.

21 H6667 Then Zedekiah H4428 the king H6680 commanded [H8762] H6485 that they should commit [H8686] H3414 Jeremiah H2691 into the court H4307 of the prison H5414 , and that they should give [H8800] H3117 him daily H3603 a piece H3899 of bread H644 out of the bakers [H8802] H2351 ' street H3899 , until all the bread H5892 in the city H8552 were spent [H8800] H3414 . Thus Jeremiah H3427 remained [H8799] H2691 in the court H4307 of the prison.
