1 Thys is the boke of the generation of Iesus Christ the sonne of dauyd, the sonne also of Abraham.
2 Abraham begat Isaac: Isaac begat Iacob: Iacob begat Iudas and hys bretherne:
3 Iudas begat Phares & Zaram of Thamar: Phares begat Esrom: Esrom begat Aram:
4 Aram begat Amidadab: Aminadab begat Naasson: Naasson begat Salmon:
5 Salmon begat Boos of Rachab: Boos begat Obed of Ruth: Obed begat Iesse:
6 Iesse begat Dauid the kynge: Dauid the kinge begat Solomon, of her that was the wyfe of Vrye:
7 Salomon begat Roboam: Roboam begat Abia: Abia begat Asa:
8 Asa begat Iosaphat. Iosaphat begat Ioram: Ioram begat Hosias:
9 Hosias begat Ioatham: Ioatham begat Achas: Achas begat Ezechias:
10 Ezechias begat Manasses: Manasses begat Amon: Amon begat Iosias:
11 Iosias begat Iechonias & hys brethren about the tyme they were caried awaye to Babylon.
12 And after they were brought to Babylou Iechonias begat Salathiel: Salathiel begat zorobabel:
13 zorobabel begat Abiud: Abiud begat Eliachim: Eliachim begat Azor:
14 Azor begat Sadoc: Sadoc begat Achin: Achin begat Eliud:
15 Eliud begat Eliazar: Eliazar begat Matthan: Matthan begat Iacob:
16 Iacob begat Ioseph the husbande of Marie of which was borne that Iesus, that is called Christ.
17 All the generacions frome Abraham to Danid are .xiiij. generations. And from Dauid vnto the captiuitie of Babylon: are .xiiij. generations. And from the captiuitie of Babylon vnto Christe, are also fourtene generations.
18 The byrth of Iesus Christe was ou thys wise. When hys mother Mary was betrouthed to Ioseph, before they came to dwell together, she was founde with chylde by the holye Ghost.
19 Then Ioseph her husbande beinge a perfecte man and loth to make an ensample of her, was mynded to put her awaye secretly.
20 While he thus thought, behold the Aungel of the Lord appered vnto him in a dreame, sainge: Ioseph thou sonne of Dauid. fear not to take vnto the Mary thy wife. For that which is conceyued in her is of the holye Ghost.
21 She shall bryngforth a sonne, & thou shalt cal his name Iesus. For he shal saue his people from their sins.
22 All thys was done to fulfyll that whyche was spoken of the Lorde by the Prophet, saiynge:
23 Bholde a mayde shall be wyth chylde, and shal bringe forth a sonne, and they shall call hys name Emanuell, whyche is by interpretation, God wyth vs.
24 And Ioseph assone as he awoke out of slepe, did as the Aungel of the Lorde had bidden him, and toke hys wyfe vnto him,
25 and knewe her not tyl she had broughte forthe her fyrste sonne, and called hys name Iesus.
