H4853 The burden H1697 of the word H3068 of the LORD H3478 to Israel H3027 by H4401 Malachi.
H157 I have loved [H8804]   H5002 you, saith [H8803]   H3068 the LORD H559 . Yet ye say [H8804]   H157 , Wherein hast thou loved [H8804]   H6215 us? Was not Esau H3290 Jacob's H251 brother H559 ? saith [H8804]   H3068 the LORD H157 : yet I loved [H8799]   H3290 Jacob,
H8130 And I hated [H8804]   H6215 Esau H7760 , and laid [H8799]   H2022 his mountains H5159 and his heritage H8077 waste H8568 for the dragons H4057 of the wilderness.
H123 Whereas Edom H559 saith [H8799]   H7567 , We are impoverished [H8795]   H7725 , but we will return [H8799]   H1129 and build [H8799]   H2723 the desolate places H559 ; thus saith [H8804]   H3068 the LORD H6635 of hosts H1129 , They shall build [H8799]   H2040 , but I will throw down [H8799]   H7121 ; and they shall call [H8804]   H1366 them, The border H7564 of wickedness H5971 , and, The people H3068 against whom the LORD H2194 hath indignation [H8804]   H5704 for H5769 ever.
H5869 And your eyes H7200 shall see [H8799]   H559 , and ye shall say [H8799]   H3068 , The LORD H1431 will be magnified [H8799]   H1366 from the border H3478 of Israel.
H1121 A son H3513 honoureth [H8762]   H1 his father H5650 , and a servant H113 his master H1 : if then I be a father H3519 , where is mine honour H113 ? and if I be a master H4172 , where is my fear H559 ? saith [H8804]   H3068 the LORD H6635 of hosts H3548 unto you, O priests H959 , that despise [H8802]   H8034 my name H559 . And ye say [H8804]   H959 , Wherein have we despised [H8804]   H8034 thy name?
H5066 Ye offer [H8688]   H1351 polluted [H8794]   H3899 bread H4196 upon mine altar H559 ; and ye say [H8804]   H1351 , Wherein have we polluted [H8765]   H559 thee? In that ye say [H8800]   H7979 , The table H3068 of the LORD H959 is contemptible [H8737]  .
H5066 And if ye offer [H8686]   H5787 the blind H2076 for sacrifice [H8800]   H7451 , is it not evil H5066 ? and if ye offer [H8686]   H6455 the lame H2470 and sick [H8802]   H7451 , is it not evil H7126 ? offer [H8685]   H6346 it now unto thy governor H7521 ; will he be pleased [H8799]   H5375 with thee, or accept [H8799]   H6440 thy person H559 ? saith [H8804]   H3068 the LORD H6635 of hosts.
H2470 And now, I pray you, beseech [H8761]   H6440   H410 God H2603 that he will be gracious [H8799]   H3027 unto us: this hath been by your means H5375 : will he regard [H8799]   H6440 your persons H559 ? saith [H8804]   H3068 the LORD H6635 of hosts.
H5462 Who is there even among you that would shut [H8799]   H1817 the doors H215 for nought ? neither do ye kindle [H8686]   H4196 fire on mine altar H2600 for nought H2656 . I have no pleasure H559 in you, saith [H8804]   H3068 the LORD H6635 of hosts H7521 , neither will I accept [H8799]   H4503 an offering H3027 at your hand.
H4217 For from the rising H8121 of the sun H3996 even unto the going down H8034 of the same my name H1419 shall be great H1471 among the Gentiles H4725 ; and in every place H6999 incense [H8716]   H5066 shall be offered [H8716]   H8034 unto my name H2889 , and a pure H4503 offering H8034 : for my name H1419 shall be great H1471 among the heathen H559 , saith [H8804]   H3068 the LORD H6635 of hosts.
H2490 But ye have profaned [H8764]   H559 it, in that ye say [H8800]   H7979 , The table H3068 of the LORD H1351 is polluted [H8794]   H5108 ; and the fruit H400 thereof, even his meat H959 , is contemptible [H8737]  .
H559 Ye said [H8804]   H4972 also, Behold, what a weariness H5301 is it! and ye have snuffed [H8689]   H559 at it, saith [H8804]   H3068 the LORD H6635 of hosts H935 ; and ye brought [H8689]   H1497 that which was torn [H8803]   H6455 , and the lame H2470 , and the sick [H8802]   H935 ; thus ye brought [H8689]   H4503 an offering H7521 : should I accept [H8799]   H3027 this of your hand H559 ? saith [H8804]   H3068 the LORD.
H779 But cursed [H8803]   H5230 be the deceiver [H8802]   H3426 , which H5739 hath in his flock H2145 a male H5087 , and voweth [H8802]   H2076 , and sacrificeth [H8802]   H136 unto the Lord H7843 a corrupt thing [H8716]   H1419 : for I am a great H4428 King H559 , saith [H8804]   H3068 the LORD H6635 of hosts H8034 , and my name H3372 is dreadful [H8737]   H1471 among the heathen.
ERV(i) 1 The burden of the word of the LORD to Israel by Malachi. 2 I have loved you, saith the LORD. Yet ye say, Wherein hast thou loved us? Was not Esau Jacob’s brother? saith the LORD: yet I loved Jacob; 3 but Esau I hated, and made his mountains a desolation, and [gave] his heritage to the jackals of the wilderness. 4 Whereas Edom saith, We are beaten down, but we will return and build the waste places; thus saith the LORD of hosts, They shall build, but I will throw down: and men shall call them The border of wickedness, and The people against whom the LORD hath indignation for ever. 5 And your eyes shall see, and ye shall say, The LORD be magnified beyond the border of Israel. 6 A son honoureth his father, and a servant his master: if then I be a father, where is mine honour? and if I be a master, where is my fear? saith the LORD of hosts unto you, O priests, that despise my name. And ye say, Wherein have we despised thy name? 7 Ye offer polluted bread upon mine altar. And ye say, Wherein have we polluted thee? In that ye say, The table of the LORD is contemptible. 8 And when ye offer the blind for sacrifice, it is no evil! and when ye offer the lame and sick, it is no evil! Present it now unto thy governor; will he be pleased with thee? or will he accept thy person? saith the LORD of hosts. 9 And now, I pray you, entreat the favour of God, that he may be gracious unto us: this hath been by your means: will he accept any of your persons? saith the LORD of hosts. 10 Oh that there were one among you that would shut the doors, that ye might not kindle [fire on] mine altar in vain! I have no pleasure in you, saith the LORD of hosts, neither will I accept an offering at your hand. 11 For from the rising of the sun even unto the going down of the same my name is great among the Gentiles; and in every place incense is offered unto my name, and a pure offering: for my name is great among the Gentiles, saith the LORD of hosts. 12 But ye profane it, in that ye say, The table of the LORD is polluted, and the fruit thereof, even his meat, is contemptible. 13 Ye say also, Behold, what a weariness is it! and ye have snuffed at it, saith the LORD of hosts; and ye have brought that which was taken by violence, and the lame, and the sick; thus ye bring the offering: should I accept this of your hand? saith the LORD. 14 But cursed be the deceiver, which hath in his flock a male, and voweth, and sacrificeth unto the Lord a blemished thing: for I am a great king, saith the LORD of hosts, and my name is terrible among the Gentiles.
