1 Samuel 3

VIN(i) 1 The child Samuel ministered to the LORD before Eli. the LORD’s word was rare in those days. There were not many visions, then. 2 At that time Eli, whose vision was growing dim, was lying down in his bedroom. 3 and the lamp of God was not yet gone out and Samuel was laid down in the temple of the LORD where the ark of God was, 4 that the LORD called, "Samuel. Samuel." And he said, "Here I am." 5 And he ran to Eli and said, "Here I am, because you called me." But he said, "I did not call you. Go back and lie down." So he went and lay down. 6 And the LORD called Samuel again, so Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, "Here I am, because you called me." And he said, "I did not call you, my son. Go back and lie down." 7 Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD, and the word of the LORD had not yet been revealed to him. 8 Again the LORD called Samuel a third time, so he got up and went to Eli and said, "Here I am, because you called me." Then Eli realized that the LORD was calling the boy. 9 Therefore Eli said to Samuel, Go, lie down, and if He calls you, say, 'Speak, the LORD, for Your servant hears'. So Samuel went and lay down in his place. 10 The LORD came, and stood, and called as at other times, "Samuel. Samuel." Then Samuel said, "Speak; for your servant hears." 11 "Look," the LORD said to Samuel. "I'm about to do something in Israel that will make both ears of anyone who hears it tingle. 12 On that day I will fulfill against Eli all that I have spoken against his household, from beginning to end. 13 For I have told him that I will judge his house forever for the iniquity which he knows, because his sons made themselves vile and he did not restrain them. 14 Therefore I have sworn to the house of Eli, that the guilt of Eli's house shall not be removed with sacrifice nor offering forever. 15 Samuel lay down until morning and then opened the doors of the house of the LORD, but he was afraid to report the vision to Eli. 16 Then Eli called Samuel and said, "Samuel, my son." And he answered, "Here I am." 17 He said, What was it that He said to you? Please don't hide it from me. May God deal with you severely if you hide anything from me of all the things that He said to you. 18 And Samuel told him everything, and hid nothing from him. And he said, It is the LORD: let him do what seems to him good. 19 Samuel grew, and the LORD was with him, and he let none of His words fall to the ground. 20 All Israel from Dan to Beersheba realized that Samuel was faithful as a prophet to the LORD. 21 The LORD continued to appear at Shiloh, because he revealed himself to Samuel at Shiloh by the word of the LORD.
