Genesis 48 Later Joseph was told that his father was ill. So he took his two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim, and went to see Jacob.

VIN⁽ⁱ⁾ ¹ Later Joseph was told that his father was ill. So he took his two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim, and went to see Jacob. ² Jacob was told that his son Joseph had come to see him. He gathered his strength and sat up in bed. ³ Jacob said to Joseph, God Almighty appeared to me at Luz in the land of Canaan, and blessed me, ⁴ and said to me, Behold, I will make you fruitful and will multiply you, and will make you a multitude of peoples. And I will give this land to your seed after you as a continual possession. ⁵ And now your two sons who came to birth in Egypt before I came to you here, are mine; Ephraim and Manasseh will be mine, in the same way as Reuben and Simeon are. ⁶ And your children whom you father after them shall be yours. By the name of their brothers they shall be called, with respect to their inheritance. ⁷ As for me, when I came from Paddan, Rachel died by me in the land of Canaan in the way, when there was still some distance to come to Ephrath, and I buried her there in the way to Ephrath (that is, Bethlehem)." ⁸ When Israel saw the sons of Joseph he said, "Who are these?" ⁹ He answered: They are my sons, whom God hath given me in this place. And he said: Bring them to me, that I may bless them. ¹⁰ Israel's eyesight was failing because of old age. He could hardly see. So Joseph brought his sons close to his father. Israel hugged them and kissed them. ¹¹ Israel said to Joseph: "I never expected to see you again. Now God has even let me see your sons." ¹² Then Joseph removed them from his knees and bowed down with his face to the ground. ¹³ And Joseph took them both, Ephraim in his right hand toward Israel`s left hand, and Manasseh in his left hand toward Israel`s right hand, and brought [them] near to him. ¹⁴ And Israel stretched out his right hand, and laid it on Ephraim's head, who was the younger, and his left on Manasseh's head, crossing his hands. For Manasseh was the first-born. ¹⁵ And he blessed Joseph, and said: 'The God before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac did walk, the God who hath been my shepherd all my life long unto this day, ¹⁶ the Angel who delivered me from all evils, bless these children! And let them be called by my name and by the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaak; and may they be increased to a great multitude on the earth! ¹⁷ When Joseph saw that his father laid his right hand on the head of Ephraim, it displeased him. He held up his father's hand, to remove it from Ephraim's head to Manasseh's head. ¹⁸ Joseph said to his father, "Not so, my father; for this is the firstborn; put your right hand on his head." ¹⁹ His father refused, and said, "I know, my son, I know. He also will become a people, and he also will be great. However, his younger brother will be greater than he, and his descendants will become a multitude of nations." ²⁰ So he blessed them that day, saying, Through you Israel shall pronounce blessing, saying, 'May God make you like Ephraim and like Manasseh.'" So he put Ephraim before Manasseh. ²¹ Then Israel said to Joseph: "I am about to die. God will be with you. He will bring you back to the land of your fathers. ²² And I have given you more than your brothers, even Shechem as your heritage, which I took from the Amorites with my sword and my bow.
