VIN(i)
1 Hear the word that the LORD speaks to you, O house of Israel.
2 This is what the LORD says: "Don't learn the way of the nations, and don't be terrified by signs in the heavens, though the nations are terrified of them.
3 For the customs of the peoples are vanity; for one cuts a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman with the ax.
4 They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with hammer and nails, that it not move.
5 "They are like scarecrows in cucumber fields. They cannot speak. They must be carried, for they cannot walk! Do not fear them! For they can do no harm and they can do no good."
6 There is no one like you, O Lord; you are great and your name is great in power.
7 Who would not revere you, O king of the nations? For you it is fitting. For among all the wise men of the nations, and in all their kingdoms, there is none like you.
8 But they are one and all senseless and foolish; the teaching of vanities is a stock.
9 Beaten silver is brought from Tarshish, and gold from Uphaz. It is the work of a craftsman and of the hands of a goldsmith. Violet and purple are their clothing. They are all the work of skilled men.
10 But the LORD is the true God, he is the living God, and an everlasting king. Because of his wrath the earth quakes, and the nations cannot endure his anger.
11 Tell this to them: "The gods who didn't make the heavens and the earth will perish from the earth and from these heavens."
12 He who made the earth by his power, and established the world by his wisdom; also stretched out the heavens by his understanding.
13 He speaks, and the water in the sky produces a storm. He makes clouds rise from the ends of the earth. He makes lightning flash with the rain. He brings wind out of his storehouses.
14 Everyone is stupid and without knowledge. Every goldsmith is put to shame by his idols, for his images are false. There is no life in them.
15 They're worthless, a work of mockery, and when the time of punishment comes, they'll perish.
16 The Portion of Jacob is not like them; for He is the Maker of all things; and Israel is the rod of His inheritance. the LORD Almighty is His name.
17 Gather up your wares out of the land, you who live under siege.
18 For this is what the LORD says: "I'm going to throw out the inhabitants of the land at this time, and I'll bring distress on them so they'll experience it."
19 Woe to me, because of my wound. My wound is incurable. But I said, "Surely this is my sickness, and I must bear it."
20 My tent is destroyed, and all my cords are broken. My sons have gone forth from me, and they are not. There is none to spread my tent any more, and to set up my curtains.
21 For the shepherds are become brutish, and have not inquired of the LORD: therefore they have not prospered, and all their flocks are scattered.
22 Listen, news: Look, it is coming, a great roar from the land of the north, to make the cities of Judah a desolation, a lair of jackals.
23 I know, O Lord, that man's way is not his own; neither shall a man go, and direct his going.
24 Correct me, O Lord, but with justice; not in thy anger, lest thou bring me to nothing.
25 Pour out your anger on the nations that don't acknowledge you, and on the families that don't call on your name. For they have devoured Jacob; they have devoured and consumed him; they have devastated his habitation.
