3 "Maybe the nation of Judah will hear about all the disasters that I devise to bring on them, and they will turn from their wicked ways. Then I will forgive their wickedness and their sins."
4 Then Jeremiah called Baruch, son of Neriah. Jeremiah dictated everything that the LORD told him. Baruch wrote it all down on a scroll.
5 Jeremiah told Baruch: "I am no longer allowed to go to the LORD's Temple.
6 You go and read the words of the LORD that you wrote at my dictation from the scroll. Read them to the people at the LORD's temple on the fast day. Also read them to all the people of Judah who are coming from their towns.
7 Perhaps their plea will fall before the LORD and each one will turn away from his evil way, for great is the anger and wrath that the LORD pronounced against this people."
8 And Baruch, the son of Neriah, did as Jeremiah the prophet gave him orders to do, reading from the book the words of the Lord in the Lord's house.
9 In the ninth month of the fifth year of the reign of Joshiah's son Jehoiakim, king of Judah, a fast was proclaimed before the LORD in Jerusalem for all the people of Jerusalem, as well as all the people who were coming from the towns of Judah.
10 Then Baruch read the words of Jeremiah from the book in the LORD's house, in the room of Gemariah the son of Shaphan, the scribe, in the upper court, at the entry of the new gate of the LORD's house, in the ears of all the people.
