Psalms 39

VIN(i) 1 For the music director. For Jeduthun. A psalm of David. I said, "I will guard my ways that I may not sin with my tongue. I will keep a muzzle over my mouth as long as the wicked are before me." 2 I was dumb and humbled and silent from good things; and my grief was renewed. 3 My heart was hot within me. While I meditated, the fire burned. I spoke with my tongue: 4 "Let me know, O LORD, my end, and what is the measure of my days. Let me know how transient I am." 5 Behold, you have made my days mere handbreadths. My lifetime is as nothing before you. Surely every man stands as a breath. Selah. 6 Surely every man walks in a shadow. Surely they are in an uproar in vain. He heaps up and does not know who will gather them. 7 And now, Lord, what do I wait for? My hope is in you. 8 Deliver me from all my transgressions. Do not make me the reproach of the foolish. 9 I remain silent; I do not open my mouth, for you are the one who acted 10 Remove your scourge away from me. I am overcome by the blow of your hand. 11 When you rebuke and correct man for iniquity, you consume his wealth like a moth. Surely every man is but a breath.” Selah. 12 Hear my prayer, O LORD, and listen to my cry for help; do not be deaf to my tears. For I am an alien with you, a sojourner like all my ancestors. 13 Look away from me that I may be cheerful, before I depart and I am no more.
