The Lord’s Rebuke to Moab and Ammon ⁸ “I’ve heard Moab’s insults and the curses from those Ammonites by which they defame my people and boast about their territory. ⁹ Therefore as I’m alive and living,” declares the LORD of the Heavenly Armies, the God of Israel, “Moab will surely become like Sodom, and the Ammonites like Gomorrah, a place overrun by weeds and salty marshes, unpopulated forever. The survivors of my people will confiscate their property, and those who remain of my nation will inherit what was theirs. ¹⁰ This they will have in lieu of their pride, because they have insulted and mocked the people of the LORD of the Heavenly Armies. ¹¹ The LORD will incite them to terror, because he will cause all the gods of the earth to waste away. They will worship him, every person in his own home, including even the coastlands of the nations.”

Setiap orang yang lewat di kota itu akan terkejut dan merasa ngeri.

Слово Господнє на вас, хананеї, краю филистимлян, Я тебе вигублю так, що не буде мешканця! ⁶ І буде довкілля морське пасовищами, повними ям пастухів та кошар для отари, ⁷ і буде оце побережжя останкові дому Юдиного, на них пасти будуть, у домах Ашкелону ввечорі будуть лягати, бо їх відвідає Господь, їхній Бог, і Він їхню долю приверне. ⁸ Чув Я ганьбу Моавову й образи Аммонових синів, які ображали народ Мій і чванилися над границею їхньою. ⁹ Тому як живий Я! говорить Господь Саваот, Бог Ізраїлів, стане Моав як Содом, а Аммонові сини як Гоморра: землею тернини, і солончаком, і навіки спустошенням! Пограбує їх решта народу Мого, а залишок люду Мого їх посяде. ¹⁰ Оце їм за їхню пиху, бо вони ображали й чванилися проти народу Господа Саваота. ¹¹ Господь буде грізний проти них, бо Він знищить всіх богів землі, і вклонятися будуть Йому кожен з місця свого, усі острови тих народів. ¹² Також ви, етіопляни, побиті мечем Моїм будете. ¹³ І на північ простягне Він руку Свою, та й погубить Ашшура, і Ніневію учинить спустошенням, суходолом, мов ту пустелю. ¹⁴ І будуть лежати серед неї стада, усяка польова звірина, і пелікан, і їжак будуть ночувати на мистецьких прикрасах її, сова буде кричати в вікні, на порозі ворона, бо віддерто кедрину його. ¹⁵ Оце оте радісне місто, що безпечно живе, що говорить у серці своєму: Я, і немає вже більше нікого! Як стало воно опустошенням, леговищем для звірини! Кожен, хто буде проходить повз нього, засвище, своєю рукою махне!
