John 1:19-28

19 And this is the witness of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him: Who art thou? 20 And he confessed, and denied not; and he confessed: I am not the Christ. 21 And they asked him: What then? Art thou Elijah? And he says: I am not. Art thou the Prophet? And he answered: No. 22 They said therefore to him: Who art thou? that we may give an answer to those who sent us. What sayest thou of thyself? 23 He said: I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness: Make straight the way of the Lord, as said Isaiah the prophet. 24 And they who were sent were of the Pharisees. 25 And they asked him, and said to him: Why then dost thou immerse, if thou art not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet? 26 John answered them, saying: I immerse in water. There stands one in the midst of you, whom ye know not; 27 he who comes after me, the latchet of whose sandal I am not worthy to loose. 28 These things took place in Bethany beyond the Jordan, where John was immersing.

John 3:28-29

28 Ye yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but I am sent before him. 29 He that has the bride is the bridegroom. But the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom's voice. This my joy therefore is made full.

John 10:24
