² And the Pharisees seeing it said to him: Behold, thy disciples are doing that which it is not lawful to do on the sabbath.

¹⁰ And behold, there was a man, having his hand withered. And they asked him, saying: Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath? that they might accuse him.

² And they watched him, whether he would heal him on the sabbath; that they might accuse him. ³ And he says to the man having the withered hand: Arise, and come into the midst. ⁴ And he says to them: Is it lawful to do good on the sabbath, or to do evil; to save life, or to kill? But they were silent. ⁵ And looking round on them with anger, being grieved for their hardness of heart, he says to the man: Stretch forth thy hand. And he stretched it forth; and his hand was restored.

⁶ And it came to pass also on another sabbath, that he entered into the synagogue and taught. And there was a man whose right hand was withered. ⁷ And the scribes and Pharisees were watching, whether he would heal on the sabbath; that they might find an accusation against him. ⁸ But he knew their thoughts, and said to the man having the withered hand: Arise, and stand forth in the midst. And he rose up, and stood. ⁹ Then said Jesus to them: I will ask you what is lawful on the sabbath, to do good, or to do evil; to save life, or to destroy it? ¹⁰ And looking round on them all, he said to him: Stretch forth thy hand. And he did so, and his hand was restored. ¹¹ And they were filled with madness, and conferred one with another, as to what they should do to Jesus.

¹⁰ And he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath. ¹¹ And, behold, there was a woman who had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and wholly unable to raise herself up. ¹² And Jesus seeing her, called her to him, and said to her: Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity. ¹³ And he laid his hands on her; and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God. ¹⁴ And the ruler of the synagogue answering (being indignant because Jesus healed on the sabbath), said to the multitude: There are six days in which it is proper to work; in them therefore come and be healed, and not on the sabbath. ¹⁵ And the Lord answered him, and said: Hypocrites! Does not each of you on the sabbath loose his ox or ass from the manger, and lead him away to water him? ¹⁶ And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan bound, lo, eighteen years, to be loosed from this bond on the sabbath? ¹⁷ And as he said these things, all his adversaries were ashamed; and all the multitude rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him.

³ And Jesus answering spoke to the lawyers and Pharisees, saying: Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath, or not? And they were silent.

⁵⁶ And returning, they prepared spices and ointments; and on the sabbath they rested, according to the commandment.

⁹ And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed and walked. And on that day was the sabbath. ¹⁰ The Jews therefore said to him that was cured: It is the sabbath; it is not lawful for thee to carry the bed. ¹¹ He answered them: He who made me whole, the same said to me: Take up thy bed, and walk.

¹⁶ And for this the Jews persecuted Jesus, because he did these things on the sabbath. ¹⁷ But Jesus answered them: My Father works hitherto, and I work.

²¹ Jesus answered and said to them: I did one work, and ye all marvel. ²² Moses has for this cause given you circumcision, not that it is of Moses, but of the fathers; and on the sabbath ye circumcise a man. ²³ If a man receives circumcision on the sabbath, that the law of Moses may not be broken; are ye angry at me, because I made a man altogether whole on the sabbath? ²⁴ Judge not according to appearance, but judge the righteous judgment.

¹⁴ And it was the sabbath when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes. ¹⁵ Again therefore the Pharisees also asked him, how he received sight. He said to them: He put clay upon mine eyes, and I washed, and do see. ¹⁶ Therefore some of the Pharisees said: This man is not from God, because he keeps not the sabbath. Others said: How can a man that is a sinner do such signs? And there was a division among them.
