³⁹ But I say to you, that ye resist not evil; but whoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.

³⁴ Therefore, behold, I send forth to you prophets, and wise men, and scribes; and some of them ye will kill and crucify, and some of them ye will scourge in your synagogues, and persecute from city to city; ³⁵ that on you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah, son of Barachiah, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar. ³⁶ Verily I say to you, all these things shall come upon this generation.

¹⁹ Avenge not yourselves, beloved, but give place to the wrath [of God]. For it is written: To me belongs vengeance; I will recompense, saith the Lord.

¹¹ Even unto this present hour we both hunger, and thirst, and are naked, and are buffeted, and have no certain dwelling-place; ¹² and labor, working with our own hands; being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we suffer it;

¹⁵ See that none render evil for evil to any one but ever follow that which is good, both toward one another, and toward all.

²¹ For to this ye were called; because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, that ye should follow his steps; ²² who committed no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth; ²³ who when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, threatened not; but committed it to him who judges righteously;

⁹ not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing; but on the contrary blessing, because to this end ye were called, that ye might inherit blessing.

¹⁰ If any one is for captivity, he goes into captivity; if any to be killed with the sword, he must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints.

⁶ because they shed the blood of saints and prophets, and thou hast given them blood to drink. They are worthy.
