⁴ These are they who were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they who follow the Lamb, whithersoever he goes. These were redeemed from men, a first-fruits to God and to the Lamb.

¹⁹ And a certain scribe came, and said to him: Teacher, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest.

¹ THEN shall the kingdom of heaven be likened to ten virgins, who took their lamps, and went out to meet the bridegroom.

⁵⁷ And as they were going in the way, a certain one said to him: I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest. ⁵⁸ And Jesus said to him: The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man has not where to lay his head. ⁵⁹ And he said to another: Follow me. But he said: Lord permit me first to go and bury my father. ⁶⁰ And he said to him: Let the dead bury their own dead; but do thou go and announce the kingdom of God. ⁶¹ And another also said; I will follow thee, Lord; but first permit me to bid farewell to those in my house. ⁶² And Jesus said to him: No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.

¹² Again therefore Jesus spoke to them, saying: I am the light of the world; he that follows me shall not walk in the darkness, but shall have the light of life.

²⁷ My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me;

²⁶ If any one serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be. If any one serve me, him will the Father honor.

³⁷ Peter says to him: Lord, why can not I follow thee now? I will lay down my life for thee.

²⁸ Take heed therefore to yourselves, and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit made you overseers, to feed the church of the Lord, which he purchased with his own blood.

²⁰ For ye are bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body.

²⁵ Now concerning virgins I have no commandment of the Lord; but I give my judgment, as one that has obtained mercy of the Lord to be faithful. ²⁶ I consider therefore that this is good on account of the present necessity, that it is good for a man so to be.

²⁸ But if also thou marry, thou sinnedst not; and if a virgin marry, she sinned not. But such shall have affliction in the flesh; but I spare you.

¹⁵ And I beseech you, brethren, (ye know the house of Stephanas, that it is the first-fruits of Achaia, and that they devoted themselves to the service of the saints,)

² For I am jealous over you with a godly jealousy; for I espoused you to one husband, that I may present a chaste virgin to Christ.

¹⁴ which is an earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of his glory.

³ forbidding to marry, commanding to abstain from food, which God created to be received with thanksgiving, for those who believe and know the truth.

¹⁸ Of his own will he begot us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of first-fruits of his creatures.

⁹ But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for a possession; that ye should show forth the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light;

⁴ But thou hast a few names in Sardis, which did not defile their garments; and they shall walk with me in white, for they are worthy.

⁹ And they sing a new song, saying: Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open its seals; because thou wast slain, and didst redeem to God by thy blood out of every tribe, and tongue, and people, and nation;

¹⁵ Therefore are they before the throne of God, and they serve him day and night in his temple; and he who sits on the throne will spread his tabernacle over them. ¹⁶ They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither shall the sun fall upon them, nor any heat; ¹⁷ because the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne will be their shepherd, and will lead them to the fountains of the waters of life; and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.

¹⁴ These will make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them; because he is Lord of lords, and King of kings; and they who are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.
