⁹ Publish ye in the palaces at Ashdod, and in the palaces in the land of Egypt, and say, Assemble yourselves upon the mountains of Samaria, and behold what great tumults are in it, and what oppressions are in the midst of it.

²⁴ even all the nations shall say, Why has LORD done thus to this land? What is the meaning of the heat of this great anger? ²⁵ Then men shall say, Because they forsook the covenant of LORD, the God of their fathers, which he made with them when he brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, ²⁶ and went and served other gods, and worshiped them, gods that they knew not, and that he had not given to them. ²⁷ Therefore the anger of LORD was kindled against this land, to bring upon it all the curse that is written in this book. ²⁸ And LORD rooted them out of their land in anger, and in wrath, and in great indignation, and cast them into another land, as at this day.

¹ Now the Philistines had taken the ark of God, and they brought it from Ebenezer to Ashdod.

²⁰ Tell it not in Gath, publish it not in the streets of Ashkelon, lest the daughters of the Philistines rejoice, lest the daughters of the uncircumcised triumph.

¹⁰ For pass over to the isles of Kittim, and see, and send to Kedar, and consider diligently, and see if there has been such a thing. ¹¹ Has a nation changed its gods, which yet are no gods? But my people have changed their glory for that which does not profit.

⁸ And many nations shall pass by this city, and they shall say each man to his neighbor, Why has LORD done thus to this great city? ⁹ Then they shall answer, Because they forsook the covenant of LORD their God, and worshiped other gods, and served them.

⁵ Again thou shall plant vineyards upon the mountains of Samaria. The planters shall plant, and shall enjoy it.

⁷ For thus says LORD: Sing with gladness for Jacob, and shout for the chief of the nations. Publish ye, praise ye, and say, O LORD, save thy people, the remnant of Israel. ⁸ Behold, I will bring them from the north country, and gather them from the outermost parts of the earth, and with them the blind man and the lame man, the woman with child, and she who travails with child together. They shall return here a great company. ⁹ They shall come with weeping. And I will lead them with supplications. I will cause them to walk by rivers of waters, in a straight way in which they shall not stumble. For I am a father to Israel, and Ephraim is my firstborn.

¹⁴ Declare ye in Egypt, and publish in Migdol, and publish in Memphis and in Tahpanhes. Say ye, Stand forth, and prepare thee, for the sword has devoured round about thee.

² Declare ye among the nations and publish, and set up a standard, publish, and conceal not. Say, Babylon is taken. Bel is put to shame. Merodach is dismayed. Her images are put to shame; her idols are dismayed.

⁸ But ye, O mountains of Israel, ye shall shoot forth your branches, and yield your fruit to my people Israel, for they are at hand to come.

²² And I will make them one nation in the land, upon the mountains of Israel, and one king shall be king to them all. And they shall no more be two nations, nor shall they be divided into two kingdoms any more at all.

⁸ And I will cut off the inhabitant from Ashdod, and him who holds the scepter from Ashkelon. And I will turn my hand against Ekron, and the remnant of the Philistines shall perish, says the lord LORD.

¹ Hear this word, ye cows of Bashan, who are in the mountain of Samaria, who oppress the poor, who crush the needy, who say to their lords, Bring, and let us drink.

¹ Woe to those who are at ease in Zion, and to those who are secure in the mountain of Samaria, the notable men of the chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel come!

⁶ that we may buy the poor for silver, and a needy man for a pair of shoes, and sell the refuse of the wheat?
