⁷ For there is hope of a tree, if it is cut down, that it will sprout again, and that the tender branch of it will not cease.

¹⁴ If a man dies, shall he live again? All the days of my warfare I would wait till my release should come.

¹⁰ He has broken me down on every side, and I am gone. And he has plucked up my hope like a tree.

¹ And there shall come forth a shoot out of the stock of Jesse. And a branch out of his roots shall bear fruit.

⁶ In days to come Jacob shall take root; Israel shall blossom and bud. And they shall fill the face of the world with fruit.

¹⁵ Nevertheless leave the stump of its roots in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field. And let it be wet with the dew of heaven, and let his portion be with the beasts in the grass of the earth.

²³ And whereas the king saw a watcher and a holy one coming down from heaven, and saying, Hew down the tree, and destroy it. Nevertheless leave the stump of the roots of it in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field. And let it be wet with the dew of heaven, and let his portion be with the beasts of the field, till seven times pass over him; ²⁴ this is the interpretation, O king, and it is the decree of the Most High, which has come upon my lord the king: ²⁵ That thou shall be driven from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field. And thou shall be made to eat grass as oxen, and shall be wet with the dew of heaven. And seven times shall pass over thee till thou know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever he will.
