² Therefore my thoughts cause me to answer, even because of my haste that is in me.

² If a man tries to converse with thee, will thou be grieved? But who can withhold himself from speaking?

¹⁹ Who is he who will contend with me? For then I would keep silent and give up the spirit.

³ I have heard the reproof which puts me to shame, and the spirit of my understanding answers me.

¹³ Beware lest ye say, We have found wisdom. God may vanquish him, not man. ¹⁴ For he has not directed his words against me. Neither will I answer him with your speeches. ¹⁵ They are amazed, they answer no more. They have not a word to say. ¹⁶ And shall I wait because they do not speak, because they stand still, and answer no more? ¹⁷ I also will answer my part. I also will show my opinion, ¹⁸ for I am full of words. The spirit within me compels me. ¹⁹ Behold, my breast is as wine which has no vent. Like new wine-skins it is ready to burst. ²⁰ I will speak that I may be refreshed. I will open my lips and answer.

²² As for me, I said in my haste, I am cut off from before thine eyes. Nevertheless thou heard the voice of my supplications when I cried to thee.

² I was mute with silence. I held my peace, even from good, and my sorrow was stirred. ³ My heart was hot within me. While I was musing the fire burned. Then I spoke with my tongue:

¹¹ I said in my haste, All men are liars.

²⁹ He who is slow to anger is of great understanding, but he who is hasty of spirit exalts folly.

²⁰ See thou a man who is hasty in his words? There is more hope for a fool than for him.

⁹ Be not hasty in thy spirit to be angry, for anger rests in the bosom of fools.

⁹ And if I say, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name, then there is in my heart as it were a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I am weary with forbearing, and I cannot.

²⁵ And having come in straightaway with haste to the king, she asked, saying, I want that thou may give me, of it on a platter, the head of John the immerser.

² For I testify to them that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge.

¹⁹ Therefore, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath.
