¹⁹ He also is chastened with pain upon his bed, and with continual strife in his bones,

⁵ And thou shall consider in thy heart, that, as a man chastens his son, so LORD thy God chastens thee.

¹⁰ Then Asa was angry with the seer, and put him in the prison-house. For he was in a rage with him because of this thing. And Asa oppressed some of the people at the same time.

¹² And in the thirty-ninth year of his reign Asa was diseased in his feet. His disease was exceedingly great, yet in his disease he did not seek for LORD, but to the physicians.

¹⁷ Behold, happy is the man whom God corrects. Therefore do not despise thou the chastening of the Almighty. ¹⁸ For he injures, and binds up. He wounds, and his hands make whole.

⁴ When I lie down, I say, When shall I arise, and the night be gone? And I am full of tossing to and fro to the dawning of the day.

¹¹ His bones are full of his youth, but it shall lie down with him in the dust.

¹⁷ In the night season my bones are pierced in me, and the pains that gnaw me take no rest.

¹ O LORD, rebuke me not in thy wrath, nor chasten me in thy hot displeasure. ² For thine arrows stick fast in me, and thy hand presses me severely. ³ There is no soundness in my flesh because of thine indignation, nor is there any health in my bones because of my sin. ⁴ For my iniquities have gone over my head. As a heavy burden they are too heavy for me. ⁵ My wounds are loathsome and corrupt, because of my foolishness. ⁶ I am pained and bowed down greatly. I go mourning all the day long. ⁷ For my loins are filled with burning, and there is no soundness in my flesh. ⁸ I am faint and severely bruised. I have groaned because of the disquietness of my heart.

¹² Blessed is the man whom thou chasten, O LORD, and teach out of thy law,

⁶⁷ Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I observe thy word.

⁷¹ It is good for me that I have been afflicted, that I may learn thy statutes.

⁹ Therefore by this the iniquity of Jacob shall be forgiven. And this is all the fruit of taking away his sin: that he makes all the stones of the altar as chalkstones that are beaten apart, so that the Asherim and the sun-images shall rise no more.

¹² Have the gods of the nations delivered them, which my fathers have destroyed, Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the sons of Eden who were in Telassar? ¹³ Where is the king of Hamath, and the king of Arpad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, of Hena, and Ivvah?

³² But when we are judged by the Lord, we are chastened so that we may not be condemned with the world.

¹⁹ As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Be zealous therefore, and repent.
