²⁶ If any man comes to me, and does not regard as inferior his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brothers, and sisters, and besides his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.

¹⁵ If a man has two wives, the one beloved, and the other regarded inferior, and they have borne him sons, both the beloved and the one regarded inferior, and if the firstborn son be hers who was regarded inferior,

⁹ who said of his father, and of his mother, I have not seen him, neither did he acknowledge his brothers, nor knew he his own sons, for they have observed thy word, and keep thy covenant.

¹⁵ so that my soul chooses strangling and death rather than these my bones. ¹⁶ I loathe my life. I would not live always. Let me alone, for my days are vanity.

²⁵ Whom have I in heaven? And there is none upon earth that I desire besides thee. ²⁶ My flesh and my heart fails, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

¹⁷ So I hated life, because the work that is wrought under the sun was grievous to me. For all is vanity and a striving after wind. ¹⁸ And I hated all my labor in which I labored under the sun, seeing that I must leave it to the man who shall be after me. ¹⁹ And who knows whether he will be a wise man or a fool? Yet he will have rule over all my labor in which I have labored, and in which I have shown myself wise under the sun. This also is vanity.

² I have loved you, says LORD. Yet ye say, How have thou loved us? Was not Esau Jacob's brother, says LORD. Yet I loved Jacob, ³ but Esau I regarded inferior, and made his mountains a desolation, and gave his heritage to the jackals of the wilderness.

³⁷ He who loves father or mother above me is not worthy of me, and he who loves son or daughter above me is not worthy of me.

²⁵ He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.

²⁴ But I make nothing of the matter, nor do I hold my life precious to myself, so as to fully complete my course with joy, and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to solemnly testify the good news of the grace of God.

¹³ As it is written, Jacob I loved, but Esau I regarded inferior.

⁸ But indeed therefore I even consider all things to be loss because of things surpassing, of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, because of whom I suffered the loss of all things, and consider them to be rubbish, so that I may gain Christ,

¹¹ And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony. And they loved not their life to the point of death.
