Nehemiah 5 Cross References - ACV

1 Then there arose a great cry of the people and of their wives against their brothers the Jews. 2 For there were who said, We, our sons and our daughters, are many. Let us get grain that we may eat and live. 3 There were some also who said, We are mortgaging our fields, and our vineyards, and our houses. Let us get grain because of the dearth. 4 There were also who said, We have borrowed money for the king's tribute upon our fields and our vineyards. 5 Yet now our flesh is as the flesh of our brothers, our sons as their sons. And, lo, we bring into bondage our sons and our daughters to be servants, and some of our daughters are brought into bondage already. Neither is it in our power to help it, for other men have our fields and our vineyards. 6 And I was very angry when I heard their cry and these words. 7 Then I consulted with myself, and contended with the ranking men and the rulers, and said to them, Ye exact usury, everyone of his brother. And I held a great assembly against them. 8 And I said to them, According to our ability we have redeemed our brothers the Jews, who were sold to the nations, and would ye even sell your brothers, and should they be sold to us? Then they were silent, and found not a word. 9 Also I said, The thing that ye do is not good. Ought ye not to walk in the fear of our God, because of the reproach of the nations our enemies? 10 And I likewise, my brothers and my servants, lend them money and grain. I pray you, let us leave off this usury. 11 Restore, I pray you, to them, even this day, their fields, their vineyards, their oliveyards, and their houses, also the hundredth part of the money, and of the grain, the new wine, and the oil, that ye exact of them. 12 Then they said, We will restore them, and will require nothing of them, so will we do, even as thou say. Then I called the priests, and took an oath from them that they would do according to this promise. 13 Also I shook out my lap, and said, So God shake out every man from his house, and from his labor, who does not perform this promise, even thus be he shaken out and emptied. And all the assembly said, Truly, and praised LORD. And the people did according to this promise. 14 Moreover from the time that I was appointed to be their governor in the land of Judah, from the twentieth year even to the thirty-second year of Artaxerxes the king, that is, twelve years, I and my brothers have not eaten the bread of the governor. 15 But the former governors who were before me charged the people, and took bread and wine from them, besides forty shekels of silver. Yes, even their servants bore rule over the people. But I did not so, because of the fear of God. 16 Yea, also I continued in the work of this wall, neither did we buy any land. And all my servants were gathered there to the work. 17 Moreover there were at my table, of the Jews and the rulers, a hundred and fifty men, besides those who came to us from among the nations that were round about us. 18 Now that which was prepared for one day was one ox and six choice sheep, also fowls were prepared for me, and once in ten days store of all sorts of wine. Yet for all this I did not demand the bread of the governor, because the bondage was heavy upon this people. 19 Remember to me, O my God, for good, all that I have done for this people.

Genesis 47:15-25

15 And when the money was all spent in the land of Egypt, and in the land of Canaan, all the Egyptians came to Joseph, and said, Give us bread, for why should we die in thy presence? For our money fails. 16 And Joseph said, Give your cattle, and I will give you for your cattle, if money fails. 17 And they brought their cattle to Joseph. And Joseph gave them bread in exchange for the horses, and for the flocks, and for the herds, and for the donkeys. And he fed them with bread in exchange for all their cattle for that year. 18 And when that year was ended, they came to him the second year, and said to him, We will not hide from my lord, how that our money is all spent, and the herds of cattle are my lord's; there is nothing left in the sight of my lord, but our bodies, and our lands. 19 Why should we die before thine eyes, both we and our land? Buy us and our land for bread, and we and our land will be servants to Pharaoh. And give us seed, that we may live, and not die, and that the land not be desolate. 20 So Joseph bought all the land of Egypt for Pharaoh. For the Egyptians, every man, sold his field, because the famine was severe upon them. And the land became Pharaoh's. 21 And as for the people, he moved them to the cities from one end of the border of Egypt even to the other end of it. 22 Only he did not buy the land of the priests, for the priests had a portion from Pharaoh, and ate their portion which Pharaoh gave them. Therefore they did not sell their land. 23 Then Joseph said to the people, Behold, I have bought you this day and your land for Pharaoh. Lo, here is seed for you, and ye shall sow the land. 24 And it shall come to pass at the ingatherings, that ye shall give a fifth to Pharaoh, and four parts shall be your own, for seed of the field, and for your food, and for those of your households, and for food for your little ones. 25 And they said, Thou have saved our lives. Let us find favor in the sight of my lord, and we will be Pharaoh's servants.

He shall have no power to sell her to a foreign people, since he has dealt deceitfully with her. 9 And if he espouses her to his son, he shall deal with her according to the manner of daughters. 10 If he takes him another wife, her food, her raiment, and her duty of marriage, he shall not diminish. 11 And if he does not do these three things to her, then she shall go out for nothing, without money.

For it is good for me rather to die, than that any man should make my boasting empty. 16 For if I preach the good news, it is not a source of pride for me, for an obligation is laid upon me. And woe is to me if I do not preach the good news. 17 For if I do this voluntarily, I have a reward, but if involuntarily, I have been entrusted with a commission. 18 What then is my reward? 1 Corinthians 9:4-15

4 Have we no, not a right to eat and to drink? 5 Have we no, not a right to lead about a sister wife, as also the other apostles, and the brothers of the Lord, and Cephas? 6 Or have only I and Barnabas no right not to be occupied earning a living? 7 Who ever enlists in an army at his own wage? Who plants a vineyard and does not eat from the fruit of it? Or who feeds a flock and does not eat from the milk of the flock? 8 Do I say these things according to man, or does not the law also say these things? 9 For it is written in the law of Moses thou shall not muzzle an ox threshing grain. Is God concerned about oxen, 10 or does he speak altogether for our sake? For our sake, for it was written, He who plows ought to plow with hope, and he who threshes with his hope, with hope to share. 11 If we sowed spiritual things to you, is it a great thing if we will reap your carnal things? 12 If others are partakers of the right from you, are not we more? Nevertheless we did not use this right, but we cover all things, so that we may not give any hindrance to the good news of the Christ. 13 Know ye not that those being employed at the sacred things eat from the temple, and those who serve at the altar are partakers at the altar? 14 And so the Lord commanded those who proclaim the good news to live from the good news. 15 But I have used none of these things, and I did not write these things so that it should be done to me this way. For it is good for me rather to die, than that any man should make my boasting empty.

Nevertheless, being clever, I caught you with bait. 17 Any man of whom I have sent to you, did I exploit you through him? 18 I encouraged Titus, and I sent the brother with him. Did Titus exploit you in anything? Did we not walk in the same spirit, not in the same steps?
