And they declared their ancestry after their families, by their fathers' houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, by their polls. 19 As LORD commanded Moses, so he numbered them in the wilderness of Sinai. 20 And the sons of Reuben, Israel's firstborn, their generations, by their families, by their fathers' houses, according to the number of the names, by their polls, every male from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go forth to war, 21 those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Reuben, were forty-six thousand and five hundred. 22 Of the sons of Simeon, their generations, by their families, by their fathers' houses, those who were numbered of it, according to the number of the names, by their polls, every male from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go forth to war, 23 those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Simeon, were fifty-nine thousand and three hundred. 24 Of the sons of Gad, their generations, by their families, by their fathers' houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war, 25 those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Gad, were forty-five thousand six hundred and fifty. 26 Of the sons of Judah, their generations, by their families, by their fathers' houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war, 27 those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Judah, were seventy-four thousand and six hundred. 28 Of the sons of Issachar, their generations, by their families, by their fathers' houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war, 29 those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Issachar, were fifty-four thousand and four hundred. 30 Of the sons of Zebulun, their generations, by their families, by their fathers' houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war, 31 those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Zebulun, were fifty-seven thousand and four hundred. 32 Of the sons of Joseph, namely, of the sons of Ephraim, their generations, by their families, by their fathers' houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war, 33 those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Ephraim, were forty thousand and five hundred; 34 of the sons of Manasseh, their generations, by their families, by their fathers' houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war, 35 those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Manasseh, were thirty-two thousand and two hundred. 36 Of the sons of Benjamin, their generations, by their families, by their fathers' houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war, 37 those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Benjamin, were thirty-five thousand and four hundred. 38 Of the sons of Dan, their generations, by their families, by their fathers' houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war, 39 those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Dan, were sixty-two thousand and seven hundred. 40 Of the sons of Asher, their generations, by their families, by their fathers' houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war, 41 those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Asher, were forty-one thousand and five hundred. 42 Of the sons of Naphtali, their generations, by their families, by their fathers' houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war, 43 those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Naphtali, were fifty-three thousand and four hundred. 44 These are those who were numbered, whom Moses and Aaron numbered, and the rulers of Israel, being twelve men. They were each one for his fathers' house. 45 So all those who were numbered of the sons of Israel by their fathers' houses, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go forth to war in Israel, 46 even all those who were numbered were six hundred three thousand and five hundred and fifty. 47 But the Levites according to the tribe of their fathers were not numbered among them. 48 For LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 49 Only the tribe of Levi thou shall not number, neither shall thou take the sum of them among the sons of Israel, 50 but appoint thou the Levites over the tabernacle of the testimony, and over all the furniture of it, and over all that belongs to it. Genesis 49:1-33

1 And Jacob called to his sons, and said, gather yourselves together, that I may tell you that which shall befall you in the latter days. 2 Assemble yourselves, and hear, ye sons of Jacob, and hearken to Israel your father. 3 Reuben, thou are my firstborn, my might, and the beginning of my strength, the pre-eminence of dignity, and the pre-eminence of power. 4 Boiling over as water, thou shall not have the pre-eminence, because thou went up to thy father's bed, then thou defiled it; he went up to my couch. 5 Simeon and Levi are brothers, weapons of violence are their swords. 6 O my soul, come not thou into their council, to their assembly, my glory, be not thou united, for in their anger they slew a man, and in their self-will they hocked an ox. 7 Cursed be their anger, for it was fierce, and their wrath, for it was cruel. I will divide them in Jacob, and scatter them in Israel. 8 Judah, thy brothers shall praise thee. Thy hand shall be on the neck of thine enemies. Thy father's sons shall bow down before thee. 9 Judah is a lion's whelp. From the prey, my son, thou have gone up. He stooped down, he couched as a lion, and as a lioness, who shall rouse him up? 10 The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor the ruler's staff from between his feet, until he comes to whom it belongs, and to him shall the obedience of the peoples be. 11 Binding his foal to the vine, and his donkey's colt to the choice vine, he has washed his garments in wine, and his vesture in the blood of grapes. 12 His eyes shall be red with wine, and his teeth white with milk. 13 Zebulun shall dwell at the haven of the sea, and he shall be for a haven of ships. And his border shall be upon Sidon. 14 Issachar is a strong donkey, couching down between the sheepfolds. 15 And he saw a resting place that it was good, and the land that it was pleasant. And he bowed his shoulder to bear, and became a servant under task work. 16 Dan shall judge his people, as one of the tribes of Israel. 17 Dan shall be a serpent in the way, an adder in the path, that bites the horse's heels, so that his rider falls backward. 18 I have waited for thy salvation, O LORD. 19 Gad, a troop shall press upon him, but he shall press upon their heel. 20 Out of the Asher his bread shall be fat, and he shall yield royal dainties. 21 Naphtali is a hind let loose. He gives goodly words. 22 Joseph is a fruitful bough, a fruitful bough by a fountain, his branches run over the wall. 23 The archers have sorely grieved him, and shot at him, and persecute him, 24 but his bow abode in strength. And the arms of his hands were made strong by the hands of the Mighty One of Jacob (From there is the shepherd, the stone of Israel), 25 even by the God of thy father, who shall help thee, and by the Almighty, who shall bless thee with blessings of heaven above, blessings of the deep that couches beneath, blessings of the breasts, and of the womb. 26 The blessings of thy father have prevailed above the blessings of my forefathers to the utmost bound of the everlasting hills. They shall be on the head of Joseph, and on the crown of the head of him who was separate from his brothers. 27 Benjamin is a wolf that ravens. In the morning he shall devour the prey, and at evening he shall divide the spoil. 28 All these are the twelve tribes of Israel, and this is it that their father spoke to them and blessed them; every man according to his blessing he blessed them. 29 And he ordered them, and said to them, I am to be gathered to my people. Bury me with my fathers in the cave that is in the field of Ephron the Hittite, 30 in the cave that is in the field of Machpelah, which is before Mamre, in the land of Canaan, which Abraham bought with the field from Ephron the Hittite for a possession of a burying place. 31 There they buried Abraham and Sarah his wife, there they buried Isaac and Rebekah his wife, and there I buried Leah, 32 the field and the cave that is in it, which was purchased from the sons of Heth. 33 And when Jacob made an end of charging his sons, he gathered up his feet into the bed, and yielded up the spirit, and was gathered to his people.

Deuteronomy 33:1-29

1 And this is the blessing with which Moses the man of God blessed the sons of Israel before his death. 2 And he said, LORD came from Sinai, and rose from Seir to them. He shined forth from mount Paran, and he came from the ten thousands of holy ones. At his right hand was a fiery law for them. 3 Yea, he loves the people. All his sanctified are in thy hand, and they sat down at thy feet. He shall receive from thy words. 4 Moses commanded for us a law, an inheritance for the assembly of Jacob. 5 And he was king in Jeshurun when the heads of the people were gathered, all the tribes of Israel together. 6 Let Reuben live, and not die, nor let his men be few. 7 And this is of Judah: And he said, Hear, LORD, the voice of Judah, and bring him into his people. With his hands he contended for himself, and thou shall be a help against his adversaries. 8 And of Levi he said, Thy Thummim and thy Urim are with thy holy man, whom thou proved at Massah, with whom thou strove at the waters of Meribah, 9 who said of his father, and of his mother, I have not seen him, neither did he acknowledge his brothers, nor knew he his own sons, for they have observed thy word, and keep thy covenant. 10 They shall teach Jacob thine ordinances, and Israel thy law. They shall put incense before thee, and whole burnt offering upon thine altar. 11 Bless, LORD, his substance, and accept the work of his hands. Smite through the loins of those who rise up against him, and of those who hate him, that they not rise again. 12 Of Benjamin he said, The beloved of LORD shall dwell in safety by him. He covers him all the day long, and he dwells between his shoulders. 13 And of Joseph he said, Blessed of LORD be his land, for the precious things of heaven, for the dew, and for the deep that couches beneath, 14 and for the precious things of the fruits of the sun, and for the precious things of the growth of the moons, 15 and for the chief things of the ancient mountains, and for the precious things of the everlasting hills, 16 and for the precious things of the earth and the fullness of it, and the good will of him who dwelt in the bush. Let it come upon the head of Joseph, and upon the crown of the head of him who was separate from his brothers. 17 The firstling of his herd, majesty is his. And his horns are the horns of the wild-ox. With them he shall push the peoples, all of them, even the ends of the earth. And they are the ten thousands of Ephraim, and they are the thousands of Manasseh. 18 And of Zebulun he said, Rejoice, Zebulun, in thy going out, and, Issachar, in thy tents. 19 They shall call the peoples to the mountain. There they shall offer sacrifices of righteousness, for they shall suck the abundance of the seas, and the hidden treasures of the sand. 20 And of Gad he said, Blessed be he who enlarges Gad. He dwells as a lioness, and tears the arm, yea, the crown of the head. 21 And he provided the first part for himself, for there was the lawgiver's portion reserved. And he came with the heads of the people. He executed the righteousness of LORD, and his ordinances with Israel. 22 And of Dan he said, Dan is a lion's whelp that leaps forth from Bashan. 23 And of Naphtali he said, O Naphtali, satisfied with favor, and full with the blessing of LORD, possess thou the west and the south. 24 And of Asher he said, Blessed be Asher with sons. Let him be acceptable to his brothers, and let him dip his foot in oil. 25 Thy bars shall be iron and brass, and as thy days, so shall thy strength be. 26 There is none like God, O Jeshurun, who rides upon the heavens for thy help, and in his excellency on the skies. 27 The eternal God is thy dwelling-place, and underneath are the everlasting arms. And he thrust out the enemy from before thee, and said, Destroy. 28 And Israel dwells in safety, the fountain of Jacob alone, in a land of grain and new wine. Yea, his heavens drop down dew. 29 Happy are thou, O Israel. Who is like thee, a people saved by LORD, the shield of thy help, and the sword of thy excellency! And thine enemies shall submit themselves to thee, and thou shall tread upon their high places.

4 And I heard the number of those sealed, a hundred and forty-four thousand sealed out of every tribe of the sons of Israel. 5 Twelve thousand were sealed from the tribe of Judah, twelve thousand from the tribe of Reuben, twelve thousand from the tribe of Gad, 6 twelve thousand from the tribe of Asher, twelve thousand from the tribe of Naphtali, twelve thousand from the tribe of Manasseh, 7 twelve thousand from the tribe of Simeon, twelve thousand from the tribe of Levi, twelve thousand from the tribe of Issachar, 8 twelve thousand from the tribe of Zebulun, twelve thousand from the tribe of Joseph, twelve thousand from the tribe of Benjamin, were sealed. 9 After these things, I looked and lo, a great multitude, which none could number, out of every nation, and tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, and palms in their hands, 10 and crying out in a great voice, saying, Salvation is in our God who sits upon the throne, and in the Lamb! 11 And all the agents had stood all around the throne, and the elders, and the four living creatures, and they fell before his throne on their faces, and worshiped God, 12 saying, Truly! Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honor, and power, and strength, is for our God into the ages of the ages. Truly! 13 And one of the elders answered, saying to me, Who are these who are clothed in white robes, and where did they come from? 14 And I said to him, My lord, thou know. And he said to me, These are those coming out of the great tribulation, and they washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. 15 Because of this they are before the throne of God, and they serve him day and night in his temple. And he who sits on the throne will dwell among them. 16 They will hunger no more, nor will they thirst any more. The sun will, no, not fall upon them, nor any heat. 17 Because the Lamb in the midst of the throne will tend them, and will lead them to fountains of waters of life. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.

And Joab and the captains of the army went out from the presence of the king to number the people of Israel. 5 And they passed over the Jordan, and encamped in Aroer on the right side of the city that is in the middle of the valley of Gad, and to Jazer. 6 Then they came to Gilead, and to the land of Tahtim-hodshi. And they came to Dan-jaan, and round about to Sidon, 7 and came to the stronghold of Tyre, and to all the cities of the Hivites, and of the Canaanites. And they went out to the south of Judah, at Beersheba. 8 So when they had gone to and fro through all the land, they came to Jerusalem at the end of nine months and twenty days. 9 And Joab gave the sum of the numbering of the people to the king. And there were in Israel eight hundred thousand valiant men who drew the sword, and the men of Judah were five hundred thousand men. 10 And David's heart smote him after he had numbered the people. Genesis 37:1-36

1 And Jacob dwelt in the land of his father's sojourning, in the land of Canaan. 2 These are the generations of Jacob. Joseph, being seventeen years old, was feeding the flock with his brothers. And he was a lad with the sons of Bilhah, and with the sons of Zilpah, his father's wives, and Joseph brought the evil report of them to their father. 3 Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his sons, because he was the son of his old age. And he made for him a coat of many colors. 4 And his brothers saw that their father loved him more than all his brothers. And they hated him, and could not speak peaceably to him. 5 And Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told it to his brothers, and they hated him yet the more. 6 And he said to them, Hear, I pray you, this dream which I have dreamed. 7 For, behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and, lo, my sheaf arose, and also stood upright. And, behold, your sheaves came round about, and made obeisance to my sheaf. 8 And his brothers said to him, Shall thou indeed reign over us? Or shall thou indeed have dominion over us? And they hated him yet the more for his dreams, and for his words. 9 And he dreamed yet another dream, and told it to his brothers. And said, Behold, I have dreamed a dream again. And, behold, the sun and the moon and eleven stars made obeisance to me. 10 And he told it to his father, and to his brothers. And his father rebuked him, and said to him, What is this dream that thou have dreamed? Shall I and thy mother and thy brothers indeed come to bow down ourselves to thee to the earth? 11 And his brothers envied him, but his father kept the saying in mind. 12 And his brothers went to feed their father's flock in Shechem. 13 And Israel said to Joseph, Are not thy brothers feeding the flock in Shechem? Come, and I will send thee to them. And he said to him, Here I am. 14 And he said to him, Go now, see whether it is well with thy brothers, and well with the flock, and bring me word again. So he sent him out of the valley of Hebron, and he came to Shechem. 15 And a certain man found him, and, behold, he was wandering in the field. And the man asked him, saying, What do thou seek? 16 And he said, I am seeking my brothers. Tell me, I pray thee, where they are feeding. 17 And the man said, They are departed from here, for I heard them say, Let us go to Dothan. And Joseph went after his brothers, and found them in Dothan. 18 And they saw him afar off. And before he came near to them, they conspired against him to kill him. 19 And they said one to another, Behold, this dreamer comes. 20 Come now therefore, and let us kill him, and cast him into one of the pits. And we will say, An evil beast has devoured him. And we shall see what will become of his dreams. 21 And Reuben heard it, and delivered him out of their hand, and said, Let us not take his life. 22 And Reuben said to them, Shed no blood. Cast him into this pit that is in the wilderness, but lay no hand upon him, that he might deliver him out of their hand, to restore him to his father. 23 And it came to pass, when Joseph came to his brothers, that they stripped Joseph of his coat, the coat of many colors that was on him, 24 and they took him, and cast him into the pit. And the pit was empty; there was no water in it. 25 And they sat down to eat bread. And they lifted up their eyes and looked, and, behold, a caravan of Ishmaelites was coming from Gilead, with their camels bearing spicery and balm and myrrh, going to carry it down to Egypt. 26 And Judah said to his brothers, What profit is it if we kill our brother and conceal his blood? 27 Come, and let us sell him to the Ishmaelites, and let not our hand be upon him, for he is our brother, our flesh. And his brothers hearkened to him. 28 And there passed by Midianites, merchantmen, and they drew and lifted Joseph up out of the pit, and sold Joseph to the Ishmaelites for twenty pieces of silver. And they brought Joseph into Egypt. 29 And Reuben returned to the pit, and, behold, Joseph was not in the pit. And he tore his clothes, 30 and he returned to his brothers, and said, The child is not, and I, where shall I go? 31 And they took Joseph's coat, and killed a he-goat, and dipped the coat in the blood. 32 And they sent the coat of many colors, and they brought it to their father, and said, We have found this. Know now whether it is thy son's coat or not. 33 And he knew it, and said, It is my son's coat. An evil beast has devoured him; Joseph is without doubt torn in pieces. 34 And Jacob tore his garments, and put sackcloth upon his loins, and mourned for his son many days. 35 And all his sons and all his daughters rose up to comfort him, but he refused to be comforted, and he said, For I will go down to Sheol to my son mourning. And his father wept for him. 36 And the Midianites sold him into Egypt to Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh's, the captain of the guard.

Genesis 39:1-23

1 And Joseph was brought down to Egypt. And Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh's, the captain of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him from the hand of the Ishmaelites, who had brought him down there. 2 And LORD was with Joseph. And he was a man who succeeds. And he was in the house of his master the Egyptian. 3 And his master saw that LORD was with him, and that LORD made all that he did to prosper in his hand. 4 And Joseph found favor in his sight, and he ministered to him. And he made him overseer over his house, and all that he had he put into his hand. 5 And it came to pass from the time that he made him overseer in his house, and over all that he had, that LORD blessed the Egyptian's house for Joseph's sake. And the blessing of LORD was upon all that he had, in the house and in the field. 6 And he left all that he had in Joseph's hand, and he knew nothing that was with him, save the bread which he ate. And Joseph was comely, and well-favored. 7 And it came to pass, after these things, that his master's wife cast her eyes upon Joseph, and she said, Lie with me. 8 But he refused, and said to his master's wife, Behold, my master does not know what is with me in the house, and he has put all that he has into my hand. 9 He is not greater in this house than I, nor has he kept back anything from me but thee, because thou are his wife. How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God? 10 And it came to pass, as she spoke to Joseph day by day, that he did not hearken to her, to lie by her, or to be with her. 11 And it came to pass, about this time, that he went into the house to do his work, and there was none of the men of the house there inside. 12 And she caught him by his garment, saying, Lie with me. And he left his garment in her hand, and fled, and got out. 13 And it came to pass, when she saw that he had left his garment in her hand, and was fled forth, 14 that she called to the men of her house, and spoke to them, saying, See, he has brought in a Hebrew to us to mock us. He came in to me to lie with me, and I cried with a loud voice. 15 And it came to pass, when he heard that I lifted up my voice and cried, that he left his garment by me, and fled, and got out. 16 And she laid up his garment by her until his master came home. 17 And she spoke to him according to these words, saying, The Hebrew servant, whom thou have brought to us, came in to me to mock me. 18 And it came to pass, as I lifted up my voice and cried, that he left his garment by me, and fled out. 19 And it came to pass, when his master heard the words of his wife, which she spoke to him, saying, After this manner did thy servant to me, that his wrath was kindled. 20 And Joseph's master took him, and put him into the prison, the place where the king's prisoners were bound. And he was there in the prison. 21 But LORD was with Joseph, and showed kindness to him, and gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison. 22 And the keeper of the prison committed to Joseph's hand all the prisoners who were in the prison. And whatever they did there, he was the doer of it. 23 The keeper of the prison did not look to anything that was under his hand, because LORD was with him, and that which he did, LORD made it prosper.

And he took with him his two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim. 2 And it was reported to Jacob, saying, Behold, thy son Joseph comes to thee. And Israel strengthened himself, and sat upon the bed. 3 And Jacob said to Joseph, God Almighty appeared to me at Luz in the land of Canaan, and blessed me, 4 and said to me, Behold, I will make thee fruitful, and multiply thee, and I will make of thee a company of peoples, and will give this land to thy seed after thee for an everlasting possession. 5 And now thy two sons, who were born to thee in the land of Egypt before I came to thee into Egypt, are mine, Ephraim and Manasseh, even as Reuben and Simeon, shall be mine. 6 And thy issue, which thou beget after them, shall be thine, they shall be called after the name of their brothers in their inheritance. 7 And as for me, when I came from Paddan, Rachel died by me in the land of Canaan on the way, when there was still some distance to come to Ephrath. And I buried her there on the way to Ephrath (the same is Bethlehem). 8 And Israel beheld Joseph's sons, and said, Who are these? 9 And Joseph said to his father, They are my sons, whom God has given me here. And he said, Bring them, I pray thee, to me, and I will bless them. 10 Now the eyes of Israel were dim for age, so that he could not see. And he brought them near to him, and he kissed them, and embraced them. 11 And Israel said to Joseph, I had not thought to see thy face, and, lo, God has let me see thy seed also. 12 And Joseph brought them out from between his knees, and he bowed himself with his face to the earth. 13 And Joseph took them both, Ephraim in his right hand toward Israel's left hand, and Manasseh in his left hand toward Israel's right hand, and brought them near to him. 14 And Israel stretched out his right hand, and laid it upon Ephraim's head, who was the younger, and his left hand upon Manasseh's head, guiding his hands deliberately, for Manasseh was the firstborn. 15 And he blessed Joseph, and said, The God before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked, the God who has fed me all my life long to this day, 16 the agent who has redeemed me from all evil, bless the lads, and let my name be named on them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac, and let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth. 17 And when Joseph saw that his father laid his right hand upon the head of Ephraim, it displeased him. And he held up his father's hand, to remove it from Ephraim's head to Manasseh's head. 18 And Joseph said to his father, Not so, my father, for this is the firstborn, put thy right hand upon his head. 19 And his father refused, and said, I know, my son, I know. He also shall become a people, and he also shall be great. However, his younger brother shall be greater than he, and his seed shall become a multitude of nations. 20 And he blessed them that day, saying, In thee will Israel bless, saying, God make thee as Ephraim and as Manasseh. And he set Ephraim before Manasseh. 21 And Israel said to Joseph, Behold, I die, but God will be with you, and bring you again to the land of your fathers. 22 Moreover I have given to thee one portion above thy brothers, which I took out of the hand of the Amorite with my sword and with my bow.

And Eleazar and Ithamar ministered in the priest's office in the presence of Aaron their father. 5 And LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 6 Bring the tribe of Levi near, and set them before Aaron the priest, that they may minister to him. 7 And they shall keep his charge, and the charge of the whole congregation before the tent of meeting, to do the service of the tabernacle. 8 And they shall keep all the furniture of the tent of meeting, and the charge of the sons of Israel, to do the service of the tabernacle. 9 And thou shall give the Levites to Aaron and to his sons. They are wholly given to him on the behalf of the sons of Israel. 10 And thou shall appoint Aaron and his sons, and they shall keep their priesthood. And the stranger who comes near shall be put to death. 11 And LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 12 And I, behold, I have taken the Levites from among the sons of Israel instead of all the firstborn who opens the womb among the sons of Israel. And the Levites shall be mine, 13 for all the firstborn are mine. On the day that I smote all the firstborn in the land of Egypt I hallowed to me all the firstborn in Israel, both man and beast. They shall be mine. I am LORD. 14 And LORD spoke to Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, saying, 15 Number the sons of Levi by their fathers' houses, by their families. Thou shall number them, every male from a month old and upward. 16 And Moses numbered them according to the word of LORD, as he was commanded. 17 And these were the sons of Levi by their names: Gershon, and Kohath, and Merari. 18 And these are the names of the sons of Gershon by their families: Libni and Shimei. 19 And the sons of Kohath by their families: Amram, and Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel. 20 And the sons of Merari by their families: Mahli and Mushi. These are the families of Merari. 34 And those who were numbered of them, according to the number of all the males, from a month old and upward, were six thousand and two hundred. 35 And the ruler of the fathers' house of the families of Merari was Zuriel the son of Abihail. And the stranger that comes near shall be put to death. 39 All who were numbered of the Levites, whom Moses and Aaron numbered at the commandment of LORD, by their families, all the males from a month old and upward, were twenty-two thousand. 40 And LORD said to Moses, Number all the firstborn males of the sons of Israel from a month old and upward, and take the number of their names. 41 And thou shall take the Levites for me (I am LORD) instead of all the firstborn among the sons of Israel, and the cattle of the Levites instead of all the firstlings among the cattle of the sons of Israel. 42 And Moses numbered, as LORD commanded him, all the firstborn among the sons of Israel. 43 And all the firstborn males according to the number of names, from a month old and upward, of those who were numbered of them, were twenty-two thousand two hundred and seventy-three. 44 And LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 45 Take the Levites instead of all the firstborn among the sons of Israel, and the cattle of the Levites instead of their cattle. And the Levites shall be mine. I am LORD. 46 And for the redemption of the two hundred and seventy-three of the firstborn of the sons of Israel, who are over and above the number of the Levites, 47 thou shall take five shekels apiece by the poll. According to the shekel of the sanctuary thou shall take them (the shekel is twenty gerahs), 48 and thou shall give the money, with which the odd number of them is redeemed, to Aaron and to his sons. 49 And Moses took the redemption-money from those who were over and above those who were redeemed by the Levites.

And the continual bread shall be on it. 8 And they shall spread upon them a cloth of scarlet, and cover the same with a covering of certain skin, and shall put in the staves of it. 9 And they shall take a cloth of blue, and cover the lampstand of the light, and its lamps, and its snuffers, and its snuff dishes, and all the oil vessels of it, with which they minister to it. 10 And they shall put it and all the vessels of it within a covering of certain skin, and shall put it upon the frame. 11 And upon the golden altar they shall spread a cloth of blue, and cover it with a covering of certain skin, and shall put in the staves of it. 12 And they shall take all the vessels of ministry, with which they minister in the sanctuary, and put them in a cloth of blue, and cover them with a covering of certain skin, and shall put them on the frame. 13 And they shall take away the ashes from the altar, and spread a purple cloth on it. 14 And they shall put upon it all the vessels of it, with which they minister about it: the firepans, the flesh-hooks, and the shovels, and the basins, all the vessels of the altar. And they shall spread upon it a covering of certain skin, and put in the staves of it. 15 And when Aaron and his sons have made an end of covering the sanctuary, and all the furniture of the sanctuary, as the camp is set forward, after that, the sons of Kohath shall come to bear it, but they shall not touch the sanctuary, lest they die. These things are the burden of the sons of Kohath in the tent of meeting. 16 And the charge of Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest shall be the oil for the light, and the sweet incense, and the continual meal offering, and the anointing oil, the charge of all the tabernacle, and of all that is in it: the sanctuary, and the furniture of it. 17 And LORD spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying, 18 Cut ye not off the tribe of the families of the Kohathites from among the Levites, 19 but thus do to them, that they may live, and not die, when they approach to the most holy things. Aaron and his sons shall go in, and appoint for them each one to his service and to his burden, 20 but they shall not go in to see the sanctuary even for a moment, lest they die. 21 And LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 22 Take the sum of the sons of Gershon also, by their fathers' houses, by their families, 23 from thirty years old and upward until fifty years old thou shall number them, all who enter in to wait upon the service, to do the work in the tent of meeting. 24 This is the service of the families of the Gershonites, in serving and in bearing burdens: 25 They shall bear the curtains of the tabernacle, and the tent of meeting, its covering, and the covering of certain skin that is above upon it, and the screen for the door of the tent of meeting, 26 and the hangings of the court, and the screen for the door of the gate of the court, which is by the tabernacle and by the altar round about, and their cords, and all the instruments of their service, and whatever shall be done with them; therein they shall serve. 27 At the commandment of Aaron and his sons shall be all the service of the sons of the Gershonites, in all their burden, and in all their service. And ye shall appoint to those in charge all their burden. 28 This is the service of the families of the sons of the Gershonites in the tent of meeting. And their charge shall be under the hand of Ithamar the son of Aaron the priest. 29 As for the sons of Merari, thou shall number them by their families, by their fathers' houses. 30 From thirty years old and upward even to fifty years old thou shall number them, each man who enters upon the service, to do the work of the tent of meeting. 31 And this is the charge of their burden, according to all their service in the tent of meeting: the boards of the tabernacle, and the bars of it, and the pillars of it, and the sockets of it, 32 and the pillars of the court round about, and their sockets, and their pegs, and their cords, with all their instruments, and with all their service. And ye shall appoint the instruments of the charge of their burden by name. 33 This is the service of the families of the sons of Merari, according to all their service, in the tent of meeting, under the hand of Ithamar the son of Aaron the priest. 34 And Moses and Aaron and the rulers of the congregation numbered the sons of the Kohathites by their families, and by their fathers' houses, 35 from thirty years old and upward even to fifty years old, each man who entered upon the service, for work in the tent of meeting. 36 And those who were numbered of them by their families were two thousand seven hundred and fifty. 37 These are those who were numbered of the families of the Kohathites, all who served in the tent of meeting, whom Moses and Aaron numbered according to the commandment of LORD by Moses. 38 And those who were numbered of the sons of Gershon, their families, and by their fathers' houses, 39 from thirty years old and upward even to fifty years old, each man who entered upon the service, for work in the tent of meeting, 40 even those who were numbered of them, by their families, by their fathers' houses, were two thousand and six hundred and thirty. 41 These are those who were numbered of the families of the sons of Gershon, all who served in the tent of meeting, whom Moses and Aaron numbered according to the commandment of LORD. 42 And those who were numbered of the families of the sons of Merari, by their families, by their fathers' houses, 43 from thirty years old and upward even to fifty years old, each man who entered upon the service, for work in the tent of meeting, 44 even those who were numbered of them by their families, were three thousand and two hundred. 45 These are those who were numbered of the families of the sons of Merari, whom Moses and Aaron numbered according to the commandment of LORD by Moses. 46 All those who were numbered of the Levites, whom Moses and Aaron and the rulers of Israel numbered, by their families, and by their fathers' houses, 47 from thirty years old and upward even to fifty years old, each man who entered in to do the work of service, and the work of bearing burdens in the tent of meeting, 48 even those who were numbered of them, were eight thousand and five hundred and eighty. 49 According to the commandment of LORD they were numbered by Moses, each man according to his service, and according to his burden. Thus they were numbered by him, as LORD commanded Moses.

Numbers 8:1-26

1 And LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 2 Speak to Aaron, and say to him, When thou light the lamps, the seven lamps shall give light in front of the lampstand. 3 And Aaron did so. He lit the lamps of it in front of the lampstand, as LORD commanded Moses. 4 And this was the work of the lampstand, beaten work of gold. To the base of it, and to the flowers of it, it was beaten work. According to the pattern which LORD had shown Moses, so he made the lampstand. 5 And LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 6 Take the Levites from among the sons of Israel, and cleanse them. 7 And thus thou shall do to them to cleanse them: sprinkle the water of expiation upon them, and let them cause a razor to pass over all their flesh, and let them wash their clothes, and cleanse themselves. 8 Then let them take a young bullock, and its meal offering-fine flour mingled with oil. And thou shall take another young bullock for a sin offering. 9 And thou shall present the Levites before the tent of meeting. And thou shall assemble the whole congregation of the sons of Israel, 10 and thou shall present the Levites before LORD. And the sons of Israel shall lay their hands upon the Levites. 11 And Aaron shall offer the Levites before LORD for a wave offering on the behalf of the sons of Israel, that it may be theirs to do the service of LORD. 12 And the Levites shall lay their hands upon the heads of the bullocks, and offer thou the one for a sin offering, and the other for a burnt offering, to LORD, to make atonement for the Levites. 13 And thou shall set the Levites before Aaron, and before his sons, and offer them for a wave offering to LORD. 14 Thus shall thou separate the Levites from among the sons of Israel, and the Levites shall be mine. 15 And after that the Levites shall go in to do the service of the tent of meeting. And thou shall cleanse them, and offer them for a wave offering. 16 For they are wholly given to me from among the sons of Israel; instead of all who open the womb, even the firstborn of all the sons of Israel, I have taken them to me. 17 For all the firstborn among the sons of Israel are mine, both man and beast. On the day that I smote all the firstborn in the land of Egypt I sanctified them for myself. 18 And I have taken the Levites instead of all the firstborn among the sons of Israel. 19 And I have given the Levites as a gift to Aaron and to his sons from among the sons of Israel, to do the service of the sons of Israel in the tent of meeting, and to make atonement for the sons of Israel, that there be no plague among the sons of Israel, when the sons of Israel come near to the sanctuary. 20 Thus did Moses, and Aaron, and all the congregation of the sons of Israel, to the Levites. According to all that LORD commanded Moses concerning the Levites, so the sons of Israel did to them. 21 And the Levites purified themselves from sin, and they washed their clothes. And Aaron offered them for a wave offering before LORD, and Aaron made atonement for them to cleanse them. 22 And after that the Levites went in to do their service in the tent of meeting before Aaron, and before his sons. As LORD had commanded Moses concerning the Levites, so they did to them. 23 And LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 24 This is that which belongs to the Levites: From twenty-five years old and upward they shall go in to wait upon the service in the work of the tent of meeting. 25 And from the age of fifty years they shall cease waiting upon the work, and shall serve no more, 26 but shall minister with their brothers in the tent of meeting, to keep the charge, and shall do no service. Thus shall thou do to the Levites concerning their charges.

Numbers 26:57-62

57 And these are those who were numbered of the Levites according to their families: of Gershon, the family of the Gershonites; of Kohath, the family of the Kohathites; of Merari, the family of the Merarites. 58 These are the families of Levi: the family of the Libnites, the family of the Hebronites, the family of the Mahlites, the family of the Mushites, the family of the Korahites. And Kohath begot Amram. 59 And the name of Amram's wife was Jochebed, the daughter of Levi, who was born to Levi in Egypt. And she bore to Amram, Aaron and Moses, and Miriam their sister. 60 And to Aaron were born Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar. 61 And Nadab and Abihu died when they offered strange fire before LORD. 62 And those who were numbered of them were twenty-three thousand, every male from a month old and upward, for they were not numbered among the sons of Israel, because there was no inheritance given them among the sons of Israel.

And there fell of the people that day about three thousand men. 29 And Moses said, Consecrate yourselves today to LORD, yea, every man against his son, and against his brother, that he may bestow upon you a blessing this day.

1 Now these are the generations of Aaron and Moses in the day that LORD spoke with Moses in mount Sinai: 2 And these are the names of the sons of Aaron: Nadab the firstborn, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. 3 These are the names of the sons of Aaron, the priests who were anointed, whom he consecrated to minister in the priest's office. 4 And Nadab and Abihu died before LORD when they offered strange fire before LORD in the wilderness of Sinai, and they had no sons.

And ye shall appoint the instruments of the charge of their burden by name. 33 This is the service of the families of the sons of Merari, according to all their service, in the tent of meeting, under the hand of Ithamar the son of Aaron the priest.

1 Chronicles 23:1-32

1 Now David was old and full of days, and he made Solomon his son king over Israel. 2 And he gathered together all the rulers of Israel, with the priests and the Levites. 3 And the Levites were numbered from thirty years old and upward. And their number by their polls, man by man, was thirty-eight thousand. 4 Of these, twenty-four thousand were to oversee the work of the house of LORD. And six thousand were officers and judges, 5 and four thousand were porters, and four thousand praised LORD with the instruments which I made, David said, to praise therewith. 6 And David divided them into divisions according to the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari. 7 Of the Gershonites: Ladan and Shimei. 8 The sons of Ladan: Jehiel the chief, and Zetham, and Joel, three. 9 The sons of Shimei: Shelomoth, and Haziel, and Haran, three. These were the heads of the fathers of Ladan. 10 And the sons of Shimei: Jahath, Zina, and Jeush, and Beriah. These four were the sons of Shimei. 11 And Jahath was the chief, and Zizah the second. But Jeush and Beriah had not many sons. Therefore they became a fathers' house in one reckoning. 12 The sons of Kohath: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel, four. 13 The sons of Amram: Aaron and Moses. And Aaron was separated that he should sanctify the most holy things, he and his sons, forever, to burn incense before LORD, to minister to him, and to bless in his name, forever. 14 But as for Moses the man of God, his sons were named among the tribe of Levi. 15 The sons of Moses: Gershom and Eliezer. 16 The sons of Gershom: Shebuel the chief. 17 And the sons of Eliezer were: Rehabiah the chief. And Eliezer had no other sons, but the sons of Rehabiah were very many. 18 The sons of Izhar: Shelomith the chief. 19 The sons of Hebron: Jeriah the chief, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, and Jekameam the fourth. 20 The sons of Uzziel: Micah the chief, and Isshiah the second. 21 The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi. The sons of Mahli: Eleazar and Kish. 22 And Eleazar died, and had no sons, but daughters only. And their brothers the sons of Kish took them to wife. 23 The sons of Mushi: Mahli, and Eder, and Jeremoth, three. 24 These were the sons of Levi after their fathers' houses, even the heads of the fathers of those of them that were counted, in the number of names by their polls, who did the work for the service of the house of LORD, from twenty years old and upward. 25 For David said, LORD, the God of Israel, has given rest to his people, and he dwells in Jerusalem forever. 26 And also the Levites shall no more have need to carry the tabernacle and all the vessels of it for the service of it. 27 For by the last words of David the sons of Levi were numbered, from twenty years old and upward. 28 For their office was to wait on the sons of Aaron for the service of the house of LORD, in the courts, and in the chambers, and in the purifying of all holy things, even the work of the service of the house of God, also 29 for the showbread, and for the fine flour for a meal offering, whether of unleavened wafers, or of that which is baked in the pan, or of that which is soaked, and for all manner of measure and size. 30 And to stand every morning to thank and praise LORD, and likewise at evening. 31 And to offer all burnt offerings to LORD, on the sabbaths, on the new moons, and on the set feasts, in number according to the ordinance concerning them, continually before LORD. 32 And that they should keep the charge of the tent of meeting, and the charge of the holy place, and the charge of the sons of Aaron their brothers, for the service of the house of LORD.

1 Chronicles 25:1-26

1 Moreover David and the captains of the army set apart for the service certain of the sons of Asaph, and of Heman, and of Jeduthun, who should prophesy with harps, with psalteries, and with cymbals. And the number of those who did the work according to their service was: 2 of the sons of Asaph: Zaccur, and Joseph, and Nethaniah, and Asharelah, the sons of Asaph, under the hand of Asaph, who prophesied after the order of the king. 3 Of Jeduthun, the sons of Jeduthun: Gedaliah, and Zeri, and Jeshaiah, Hashabiah, and Mattithiah, six, under the hands of their father Jeduthun with the harp, who prophesied in giving thanks and praising LORD. 4 Of Heman, the sons of Heman: Bukkiah, Mattaniah, Uzziel, Shebuel, and Jerimoth, Hananiah, Hanani, Eliathah, Giddalti, and Romamtiezer, Joshbekashah, Mallothi, Hothir, Mahazioth. 5 All these were the sons of Heman the king's seer in the words of God, to lift up the horn. And God gave to Heman fourteen sons and three daughters. 6 All these were under the hands of their father for song in the house of LORD, with cymbals, psalteries, and harps, for the service of the house of God; Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman being under the order of the king. 7 And the number of them, with their brothers who were instructed in singing to LORD, even all who were skilful, was two hundred eighty-eight. 8 And they cast lots for their offices, all alike, as well the small as the great, the teacher as the scholar. 9 Now the first lot came forth for Asaph to Joseph, the second to Gedaliah (he and his brothers and sons were twelve), 10 the third to Zaccur, his sons and his brothers, twelve; 11 the fourth to Izri, his sons and his brothers, twelve; 12 the fifth to Nethaniah, his sons and his brothers, twelve; 13 the sixth to Bukkiah, his sons and his brothers, twelve; 14 the seventh to Jesharelah, his sons and his brothers, twelve; 15 the eighth to Jeshaiah, his sons and his brothers, twelve; 16 the ninth to Mattaniah, his sons and his brothers, twelve; 17 the tenth to Shimei, his sons and his brothers, twelve; 18 the eleventh to Azarel, his sons and his brothers, twelve; 19 the twelfth to Hashabiah, his sons and his brothers, twelve; 20 for the thirteenth, Shubael, his sons and his brothers, twelve; 21 for the fourteenth, Mattithiah, his sons and his brothers, twelve; 22 for the fifteenth to Jeremoth, his sons and his brothers, twelve; 23 for the sixteenth to Hananiah, his sons and his brothers, twelve; 24 for the seventeenth to Joshbekashah, his sons and his brothers, twelve; 25 for the eighteenth to Hanani, his sons and his brothers, twelve; 26 for the nineteenth to Mallothi, his sons and his brothers, twelve;

25 and weighed to them the silver, and the gold, and the vessels, even the offering for the house of our God, which the king, and his counselors, and his rulers, and all Israel there present, had offered. 26 I weighed into their hand six hundred and fifty talents of silver, and a hundred talents of silver vessels, a hundred talents of gold, 27 and twenty bowls of gold, of a thousand darics, and two vessels of fine bright brass, precious as gold. 28 And I said to them, Ye are holy to LORD, and the vessels are holy, and the silver and the gold are a freewill offering to LORD, the God of your fathers. 29 Watch ye, and keep them, until ye weigh them before the chiefs of the priests and the Levites, and the rulers of the fathers of Israel, at Jerusalem, in the chambers of the house of LORD. 30 So the priests and the Levites received the weight of the silver and the gold, and the vessels, to bring them to Jerusalem to the house of our God.

Ezra 8:33-34

33 And on the fourth day the silver and the gold and the vessels were weighed in the house of our God into the hand of Meremoth the son of Uriah the priest, and with him was Eleazar the son of Phinehas, and with them was Jozabad the son of Jeshua, and Noadiah the son of Binnui, the Levite, 34 the whole by number and by weight. Nehemiah 13:10-13

10 And I perceived that the portions of the Levites had not been given them, so that the Levites and the singers, who did the work, had fled each one to his field. 11 Then I contended with the rulers, and said, Why is the house of God forsaken? And I gathered them together, and set them in their place. 12 Then all Judah brought the tithe of the grain and the new wine and the oil to the treasuries. 13 And I made treasurers over the treasuries, Shelemiah the priest, and Zadok the scribe, and of the Levites, Pedaiah, and next to them was Hanan the son of Zaccur, the son of Mattaniah. For they were counted faithful, and their business was to distribute to their brothers.

1 And LORD spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying, 2 Take the sum of the sons of Kohath from among the sons of Levi, by their families, by their fathers' houses, 3 from thirty years old and upward even until fifty years old, all who enter upon the service, to do the work in the tent of meeting. 4 This is the service of the sons of Kohath in the tent of meeting, about the most holy things: 5 When the camp sets forward, Aaron shall go in, and his sons, and they shall take down the veil of the screen, and cover the ark of the testimony with it. 6 And shall put on it a covering of certain skin, and shall spread over it a cloth all of blue, and shall put in the staves of it. 7 And upon the table of showbread they shall spread a cloth of blue, and put on it the dishes, and the spoons, and the bowls and the cups with which to pour out. 24 This is the service of the families of the Gershonites, in serving and in bearing burdens:

And thou shall use them for the calling of the congregation, and for the journeying of the camps. 3 And when they shall blow them, all the congregation shall gather themselves to thee at the door of the tent of meeting. 4 And if they blow but one, then the rulers, the heads of the thousands of Israel, shall gather themselves to thee. 5 And when ye blow an alarm, the camps that lie on the east side shall take their journey. 6 And when ye blow an alarm the second time, the camps that lie on the south side shall take their journey. They shall blow an alarm for their journeys. 7 But when the assembly is to be gathered together, ye shall blow, but ye shall not sound an alarm. 8 And the sons of Aaron, the priests, shall blow the trumpets, and they shall be to you for a statute forever throughout your generations. 9 And when ye go to war in your land against the adversary that oppresses you, then ye shall sound an alarm with the trumpets. And ye shall be remembered before LORD your God, and ye shall be saved from your enemies. 10 Also in the day of your gladness, and in your set feasts, and in the beginnings of your months, ye shall blow the trumpets over your burnt offerings, and over the sacrifices of your peace offerings. And the ark of the covenant of LORD went before them three days' journey, to seek out a resting-place for them. 34 And the cloud of LORD was over them by day when they set forward from the camp. 35 And it came to pass, when the ark set forward, that Moses said, Rise up, O LORD, and let thine enemies be scattered, and let those who hate thee flee before thee. 36 And when it rested, he said, Return, O LORD, to the ten thousands of the thousands of Israel.
