³ then they would have swallowed us up alive when their wrath was kindled against us,

³⁰ But if LORD makes a new thing, and the ground opens its mouth, and swallows them up, with all that pertains to them, and they go down alive into Sheol, then ye shall understand that these men have despised LORD. ³¹ And it came to pass, as he made an end of speaking all these words, that the ground split asunder that was under them, ³² and the earth opened its mouth, and swallowed them up, and their households, and all the men that pertained to Korah, and all their goods. ³³ So they, and all that pertained to them, went down alive into Sheol. And the earth closed upon them, and they perished from among the assembly. ³⁴ And all Israel that were round about them fled at the cry of them, for they said, Lest the earth swallow us up.

³⁰ Then Saul's anger was kindled against Jonathan, and he said to him, Thou son of a perverse rebellious woman, do I not know that thou have chosen the son of Jesse to thine own shame, and to the shame of thy mother's nakedness? ³¹ For as long as the son of Jesse lives upon the ground, thou shall not be established, nor thy kingdom. Therefore now send and fetch him to me, for he shall surely die. ³² And Jonathan answered Saul his father, and said to him, Why should he be put to death? What has he done? ³³ And Saul cast his spear at him to smite him. By this Jonathan knew that it was determined by his father to put David to death.

⁶ But he disdained to lay hands on Mordecai alone, for they had made known to him the people of Mordecai. Therefore Haman sought to destroy all the Jews that were throughout the whole kingdom of Ahasuerus, even the people of Mordecai.

¹² Then the king's scribes were called in the first month, on the thirteenth day of it. And there was written according to all that Haman commanded to the king's satraps, and to the governors who were over every province, and to the rulers of every people, to every province according to the writing of it, and to every people after their language, in the name of king Ahasuerus it was written. And it was sealed with the king's ring. ¹³ And letters were sent by posts into all the king's provinces, to destroy, to kill, and to cause to perish, all Jews, both young and old, little sons and women, in one day, even upon the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month Adar, and to take the spoil of them for a prey.

² When evildoers came upon me to eat up my flesh, even my adversaries and my foes, they stumbled and fell.

²⁵ Let them not say in their heart, Aha, so would we have it. Let them not say, We have swallowed him up.

¹ Be merciful to me, O God, for man would swallow me up. Fighting all the day long he oppresses me. ² My enemies would swallow me up all the day long, for they are many who fight proudly against me.

³ He will send from heaven, and save me from the reproach of him who would swallow me up. Selah. God will send forth his loving kindness and his truth.

⁸ They said in their heart, Let us make havoc of them altogether. They have burned up all the meeting-places of God in the land.

¹⁰ Surely the inward thought of man shall praise thee, even the residue of inward thought will observe a festival to thee.

⁴ They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation, that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance.

¹² Let us swallow them up alive as Sheol, and whole, as those who go down into the pit.

³⁴ Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon has devoured me. He has crushed me. He has made me an empty vessel. He has, like a monster, swallowed me up. He has filled his stomach with my delicacies. He has cast me out.

¹⁹ Then Nebuchadnezzar was full of fury, and the form of his visage was changed against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Therefore he spoke, and commanded that they should heat the furnace seven times more than it was accustomed to be heated.
