²⁰ He has put forth his hands against such as were at peace with him. He has profaned his covenant.

¹⁷ And the king said to the guard who stood about him, Turn, and kill the priests of LORD, because their hand also is with David, and because they knew that he fled, and did not disclose it to me. But the servants of the king would not put forth their hand to fall upon the priests of LORD.

¹⁰ Behold, this day thine eyes have seen how that LORD had delivered thee today into my hand in the cave. And some bade me kill thee, but I spared thee. And I said, I will not put forth my hand against my lord, for he is LORD's anointed.

⁴ And the men of Judah came, and there they anointed David king over the house of Judah. And they told David, saying, The men of Jabesh-gilead were those who buried Saul.

³ So all the elders of Israel came to the king to Hebron. And king David made a covenant with them in Hebron before LORD, and they anointed David king over Israel.

³² And Absalom answered Joab, Behold, I sent to thee, saying, Come here, that I may send thee to the king to say, Why have I come from Geshur? It were better for me to still be there. Now therefore let me see the king's face, and if there be iniquity in me, let him kill me. ³³ So Joab came to the king, and told him. And when he had called for Absalom, he came to the king, and bowed himself on his face to the ground before the king. And the king kissed Absalom.

¹⁰ But Absalom sent spies throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, As soon as ye hear the sound of the trumpet, then ye shall say, Absalom is king in Hebron. ¹¹ And with Absalom went two hundred men out of Jerusalem who were invited, and went in their simplicity. And they did not know anything. ¹² And Absalom sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, David's counselor, from his city, even from Giloh, while he was offering the sacrifices. And the conspiracy was strong, for the people increased continually with Absalom.

¹² And the man said to Joab, Though I should receive a thousand pieces of silver in my hand, yet I would not put forth my hand against the king's son, for in our hearing the king charged thee and Abishai and Ittai, saying, Beware that none touch the young man Absalom.

⁴ if I have rewarded evil to him who was at peace with me, (yea, I have delivered him without cause who was my adversary),

²⁸ I will keep my loving kindness for him for evermore. And my covenant shall stand fast with him.

³⁴ I will not break my covenant, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.

³⁸ But thou have cast off and rejected. Thou have been angry with thine anointed.

⁵ And they have rewarded me evil for good, and hatred for my love.

⁶ My soul has long had her dwelling with him who hates peace. ⁷ I am for peace, but when I speak, they are for war.

² I say, Keep the king's command, and that because of the oath of God.

¹⁶ As I live, says the lord LORD, surely in the place where the king dwells who made him king, whose oath he despised, and whose covenant he broke, even with him in the midst of Babylon he shall die. ¹⁷ Nor shall Pharaoh with his mighty army and great company help him in the war when they cast up mounds and build forts to cut off many persons. ¹⁸ For he has despised the oath by breaking the covenant. And, behold, he had given his hand, and yet has done all these things. He shall not escape. ¹⁹ Therefore thus says the lord LORD: As I live, surely my oath that he has despised, and my covenant that he has broken, I will even bring it upon his own head.

¹ Now about that time Herod the king threw on hands to harm some of those from the church.
