²³ Jesus answered him, If I have spoken evil, bear witness of the evil: but if well, why smite you me?

³⁹ But I say to you, That you resist not evil: but whoever shall smite you on your right cheek, turn to him the other also.

² And the high priest Ananias commanded them that stood by him to smite him on the mouth. ³ Then said Paul to him, God shall smite you, you white washed wall: for sit you to judge me after the law, and command me to be smitten contrary to the law? ⁴ And they that stood by said, Revile you God's high priest? ⁵ Then said Paul, I knew not, brothers, that he was the high priest: for it is written, You shall not speak evil of the ruler of your people.
