¹⁴ For all the day long have I been plagued, and chastened every morning.

³ So am I made to possess months of vanity, and wearisome nights are appointed to me. ⁴ When I lie down, I say, When shall I arise, and the night be gone? and I am full of tossings to and fro to the dawning of the day.

¹⁸ And that you should visit him every morning, and try him every moment?

³ Is it good to you that you should oppress, that you should despise the work of your hands, and shine on the counsel of the wicked?

¹⁷ You renew your witnesses against me, and increase your indignation on me; changes and war are against me.

¹⁹ Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivers him out of them all.

¹² Blessed is the man whom you chasten, O LORD, and teach him out of your law;

¹⁸ Why is my pain perpetual, and my wound incurable, which refuses to be healed? will you be altogether to me as a liar, and as waters that fail?

² You only have I known of all the families of the earth: therefore I will punish you for all your iniquities.

⁵ And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to children, My son, despise not you the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when you are rebuked of him:

⁶ Wherein you greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, you are in heaviness through manifold temptations:
