⁷ When the wicked spring as the grass, and when all the workers of iniquity do flourish; it is that they shall be destroyed for ever:

³⁶ And Abigail came to Nabal; and, behold, he held a feast in his house, like the feast of a king; and Nabal's heart was merry within him, for he was very drunken: why she told him nothing, less or more, until the morning light. ³⁷ But it came to pass in the morning, when the wine was gone out of Nabal, and his wife had told him these things, that his heart died within him, and he became as a stone. ³⁸ And it came to pass about ten days after, that the LORD smote Nabal, that he died.

⁶ The tabernacles of robbers prosper, and they that provoke God are secure; into whose hand God brings abundantly.

⁷ Why do the wicked live, become old, yes, are mighty in power? ⁸ Their seed is established in their sight with them, and their offspring before their eyes. ⁹ Their houses are safe from fear, neither is the rod of God on them. ¹⁰ Their bull engenders, and fails not; their cow calves, and casts not her calf. ¹¹ They send forth their little ones like a flock, and their children dance. ¹² They take the tambourine and harp, and rejoice at the sound of the organ.

¹ Fret not yourself because of evildoers, neither be you envious against the workers of iniquity. ² For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.

³⁵ I have seen the wicked in great power, and spreading himself like a green bay tree. ³⁶ Yet he passed away, and, see, he was not: yes, I sought him, but he could not be found.

³⁸ But the transgressors shall be destroyed together: the end of the wicked shall be cut off.

¹² Behold, these are the ungodly, who prosper in the world; they increase in riches.

¹⁸ Surely you did set them in slippery places: you cast them down into destruction. ¹⁹ How are they brought into desolation, as in a moment! they are utterly consumed with terrors. ²⁰ As a dream when one wakes; so, O Lord, when you wake, you shall despise their image.

⁵ You carry them away as with a flood; they are as a sleep: in the morning they are like grass which grows up. ⁶ In the morning it flourishes, and grows up; in the evening it is cut down, and wither.

⁴ How long shall they utter and speak hard things? and all the workers of iniquity boast themselves?

¹⁵ As for man, his days are as grass: as a flower of the field, so he flourishes. ¹⁶ For the wind passes over it, and it is gone; and the place thereof shall know it no more.

³² For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.

²⁷ Therefore their inhabitants were of small power, they were dismayed and confounded: they were as the grass of the field, and as the green herb, as the grass on the housetops, and as corn blasted before it be grown up.

⁶ The voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all the goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field: ⁷ The grass wither, the flower fades: because the spirit of the LORD blows on it: surely the people is grass.

¹ Righteous are you, O LORD, when I plead with you: yet let me talk with you of your judgments: Why does the way of the wicked prosper? why are all they happy that deal very treacherously? ² You have planted them, yes, they have taken root: they grow, yes, they bring forth fruit: you are near in their mouth, and far from their reins.

¹⁵ And now we call the proud happy; yes, they that work wickedness are set up; yes, they that tempt God are even delivered.

¹ For, behold, the day comes, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yes, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that comes shall burn them up, said the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.

¹⁹ There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: ²⁰ And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, ²¹ And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. ²² And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; ²³ And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and sees Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. ²⁴ And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. ²⁵ But Abraham said, Son, remember that you in your lifetime received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and you are tormented.

¹⁰ But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away. ¹¹ For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it wither the grass, and the flower thereof falls, and the grace of the fashion of it perishes: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways.

²⁴ For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass wither, and the flower thereof falls away:
