¹³ That against God thou turnest thy spirit,
And lettest words go out of thy mouth?

⁴ [He is] wise in heart, and mighty in strength:
Who hath hardened himself against him, and prospered?—

³ Is it good unto thee that thou shouldest oppress,
That thou shouldest despise the work of thy hands,
And shine upon the counsel of the wicked?

⁶ The tents of robbers prosper,
And they that provoke God are secure;
Into whose hand God bringeth [abundantly].

²⁵ Because he hath stretched out his hand against God,
And behaveth himself proudly against the Almighty; ²⁶ He runneth upon him with a [stiff] neck,
With the thick bosses of his bucklers; ²⁷ Because he hath covered his face with his fatness,
And gathered fat upon his loins;

¹³ Keep thy tongue from evil,
And thy lips from speaking guile.

¹³ Your words have been stout against me, saith Jehovah. Yet ye say, What have we spoken against thee?

⁷ because the mind of the flesh is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can it be: ⁸ and they that are in the flesh cannot please God.

²⁶ If any man thinketh himself to be religious, while he bridleth not his tongue but deceiveth his heart, this man's religion is vain.

² For in many things we all stumble. If any stumbleth not in word, the same is a perfect man, able to bridle the whole body also. ³ Now if we put the horses' bridles into their mouths that they may obey us, we turn about their whole body also. ⁴ Behold, the ships also, though they are so great and are driven by rough winds, are yet turned about by a very small rudder, whither the impulse of the steersman willeth. ⁵ So the tongue also is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how much wood is kindled by how small a fire! ⁶ And the tongue is a fire: the world of iniquity among our members is the tongue, which defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the wheel of nature, and is set on fire by hell.
