Job 21 Cross References - ASV

1 Then Job answered and said, 2 Hear diligently my speech;
And let this be your consolations. 3 Suffer me, and I also will speak;
And after that I have spoken, mock on. 4 As for me, is my complaint to man?
And why should I not be impatient? 5 Mark me, and be astonished,
And lay your hand upon your mouth. 6 Even when I remember I am troubled,
And horror taketh hold on my flesh. 7 Wherefore do the wicked live,
Become old, yea, wax mighty in power? 8 Their seed is established with them in their sight,
And their offspring before their eyes. 9 Their houses are safe from fear,
Neither is the rod of God upon them. 10 Their bull gendereth, and faileth not;
Their cow calveth, and casteth not her calf. 11 They send forth their little ones like a flock,
And their children dance. 12 They sing to the timbrel and harp,
And rejoice at the sound of the pipe. 13 They spend their days in prosperity,
And in a moment they go down to Sheol. 14 And they say unto God, Depart from us;
For we desire not the knowledge of thy ways. 15 What is the Almighty, that we should serve him?
And what profit should we have, if we pray unto him? 16 Lo, their prosperity is not in their hand:
The counsel of the wicked is far from me.
17 How oft is it that the lamp of the wicked is put out?
That their calamity cometh upon them?
That [God] distributeth sorrows in his anger? 18 That they are as stubble before the wind,
And as chaff that the storm carrieth away? 19 [Ye say], God layeth up his iniquity for his children.
Let him recompense it unto himself, that he may know it: 20 Let his own eyes see his destruction,
And let him drink of the wrath of the Almighty. 21 For what careth he for his house after him,
When the number of his months is cut off? 22 Shall any teach God knowledge,
Seeing he judgeth those that are high? 23 One dieth in his full strength,
Being wholly at ease and quiet: 24 His pails are full of milk,
And the marrow of his bones is moistened. 25 And another dieth in bitterness of soul,
And never tasteth of good. 26 They lie down alike in the dust,
And the worm covereth them.
27 Behold, I know your thoughts,
And the devices wherewith ye would wrong me. 28 For ye say, Where is the house of the prince?
And where is the tent wherein the wicked dwelt? 29 Have ye not asked wayfaring men?
And do ye not know their evidences, 30 That the evil man is reserved to the day of calamity?
That they are led forth to the day of wrath? 31 Who shall declare his way to his face?
And who shall repay him what he hath done? 32 Yet shall he be borne to the grave,
And men shall keep watch over the tomb. 33 The clods of the valley shall be sweet unto him,
And all men shall draw after him,
As there were innumerable before him. 34 How then comfort ye me in vain,
Seeing in your answers there remaineth [only] falsehood?

And terrifiest me through visions: 15 So that my soul chooseth strangling,
And death rather than [these] my bones. 16 I loathe [my life]; I would not live alway:

And let strangers make spoil of his labor. 12 Let there be none to extend kindness unto him;
Neither let there be any to have pity on his fatherless children. 13 Let his posterity be cut off;
In the generation following let their name be blotted out. 14 Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered with Jehovah;
And let not the sin of his mother be blotted out. 15 Let them be before Jehovah continually,
That he may cut off the memory of them from the earth; 16 Because he remembered not to show kindness,

And my heart is wounded within me. 23 I am gone like the shadow when it declineth:
I am tossed up and down as the locust. 24 My knees are weak through fasting;
And my flesh faileth of fatness. 25 I am become also a reproach unto them:
When they see me, they shake their head. 26 Help me, O Jehovah my God;
Oh save me according to thy lovingkindness: 27 That they may know that this is thy hand;
[That] thou, Jehovah, hast done it. 28 Let them curse, but bless thou:
When they arise, they shall be put to shame,
But thy servant shall rejoice. 29 Let mine adversaries be clothed with dishonor,
And let them cover themselves with their own shame as with a robe. 30 I will give great thanks unto Jehovah with my mouth;
Yea, I will praise him among the multitude. 31 For he will stand at the right hand of the needy,

31 And it came to pass, as he made an end of speaking all these words, that the ground clave asunder that was under them; 32 and the earth opened its mouth, and swallowed them up, and their households, and all the men that appertained unto Korah, and all their goods. 33 So they, and all that appertained to them, went down alive into Sheol: and the earth closed upon them, and they perished from among the assembly. 34 And all Israel that were round about them fled at the cry of them; for they said, Lest the earth swallow us up.

2 Peter 2:9-17

9 the Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptation, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment unto the day of judgment; 10 but chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of defilement, and despise dominion. Daring, self-willed, they tremble not to rail at dignities: 11 whereas angels, though greater in might and power, bring not a railing judgment against them before the Lord. 12 But these, as creatures without reason, born mere animals to be taken and destroyed, railing in matters whereof they are ignorant, shall in their destroying surely be destroyed, 13 suffering wrong as the hire of wrong-doing; [men] that count it pleasure to revel in the day-time, spots and blemishes, revelling in their deceivings while they feast with you; 14 having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; enticing unstedfast souls; having a heart exercised in covetousness; children of cursing; 15 forsaking the right way, they went astray, having followed the way of Balaam the [son] of Beor, who loved the hire of wrong-doing; 16 but he was rebuked for his own transgression: a dumb ass spake with man's voice and stayed the madness of the prophet. 17 These are springs without water, and mists driven by a storm; for whom the blackness of darkness hath been reserved.

Thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel, I anointed thee king over Israel, and I delivered thee out of the hand of Saul; 8 and I gave thee thy master's house, and thy master's wives into thy bosom, and gave thee the house of Israel and of Judah; and if that had been too little, I would have added unto thee such and such things. 9 Wherefore hast thou despised the word of Jehovah, to do that which is evil in his sight? thou hast smitten Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and hast taken his wife to be thy wife, and hast slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon. 10 Now therefore the sword shall never depart from thy house, because thou hast despised me, and hast taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be thy wife. 11 Thus saith Jehovah, Behold, I will raise up evil against thee out of thine own house; and I will take thy wives before thine eyes, and give them unto thy neighbor, and he shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this sun. 12 For thou didst it secretly: but I will do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun.

And he answered, I have found thee, because thou hast sold thyself to do that which is evil in the sight of Jehovah. 21 Behold, I will bring evil upon thee, and will utterly sweep thee away and will cut off from Ahab every man-child, and him that is shut up and him that is left at large in Israel: 22 and I will make thy house like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah for the provocation wherewith thou hast provoked me to anger, and hast made Israel to sin. 23 And of Jezebel also spake Jehovah, saying, The dogs shall eat Jezebel by the rampart of Jezreel. 24 Him that dieth of Ahab in the city the dogs shall eat; and him that dieth in the field shall the birds of the heavens eat.
