²⁵ I chose out their way, and sat [as] chief,
And dwelt as a king in the army,
As one that comforteth the mourners.

² In times past, when Saul was king over us, it was thou that leddest out and broughtest in Israel: and Jehovah said to thee, Thou shalt be shepherd of my people Israel, and thou shalt be prince over Israel.

¹ And David consulted with the captains of thousands and of hundreds, even with every leader. ² And David said unto all the assembly of Israel, If it seem good unto you, and if it be of Jehovah our God, let us send abroad every where unto our brethren that are left in all the land of Israel, with whom the priests and Levites are in their cities that have suburbs, that they may gather themselves unto us; ³ and let us bring again the ark of our God to us: for we sought not unto it in the days of Saul. ⁴ And all the assembly said that they would do so; for the thing was right in the eyes of all the people.

³ His substance also was seven thousand sheep, and three thousand camels, and five hundred yoke of oxen, and five hundred she-asses, and a very great household; so that this man was the greatest of all the children of the east.

³ Behold, thou hast instructed many,
And thou hast strengthened the weak hands. ⁴ Thy words have upholden him that was falling,
And thou hast made firm the feeble knees.

³⁷ I would declare unto him the number of my steps;
As a prince would I go near unto him.

³ Strengthen ye the weak hands, and confirm the feeble knees. ⁴ Say to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God will come [with] vengeance, [with] the recompense of God; he will come and save you.

¹ The Spirit of the Lord Jehovah is upon me; because Jehovah hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening [of the prison] to them that are bound; ² to proclaim the year of Jehovah's favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn; ³ to appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them a garland for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they may be called trees of righteousness, the planting of Jehovah, that he may be glorified.

³ Blessed [be] the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort; ⁴ who comforteth us in all our affliction, that we may be able to comfort them that are in any affliction, through the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.

⁵ For even when we were come into Macedonia our flesh had no relief, but [we were] afflicted on every side; without [were] fightings, within [were] fears. ⁶ Nevertheless he that comforteth the lowly, [even] God, comforted us by the coming of Titus; ⁷ and not by his coming only, but also by the comfort wherewith he was comforted in you, while he told us your longing, your mourning, your zeal for me; so that I rejoiced yet more.

² and sent Timothy, our brother and God's minister in the gospel of Christ, to establish you, and to comfort [you] concerning your faith; ³ that no man be moved by these afflictions; for yourselves know that hereunto we are appointed.
