¹ { For the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that was a householder, who went out early in the morning to hire laborers into his vineyard. ² And when he had agreed with the laborers for a shilling a day, he sent them into his vineyard. ³ And he went out about the third hour, and saw others standing in the marketplace idle; ⁴ and to them he said, Go ye also into the vineyard, and whatsoever is right I will give you. And they went their way. ⁵ Again he went out about the sixth and the ninth hour, and did likewise. ⁶ And about the eleventh [hour] he went out, and found others standing; and he saith unto them, Why stand ye here all the day idle? ⁷ They say unto him, Because no man hath hired us. He saith unto them, Go ye also into the vineyard. ⁸ And when even was come, the lord of the vineyard saith unto his steward, Call the laborers, and pay them their hire, beginning from the last unto the first. ⁹ And when they came that [were hired] about the eleventh hour, they received every man a shilling. ¹⁰ And when the first came, they supposed that they would receive more; and they likewise received every man a shilling. ¹¹ And when they received it, they murmured against the householder, ¹² saying, These last have spent [but] one hour, and thou hast made them equal unto us, who have borne the burden of the day and the scorching heat. ¹³ But he answered and said to one of them, Friend, I do thee no wrong: didst not thou agree with me for a shilling? ¹⁴ Take up that which is thine, and go thy way; it is my will to give unto this last, even as unto thee. ¹⁵ Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own? or is thine eye evil, because I am good? ¹⁶ So the last shall be first, and the first last.}
¹⁷ And as Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, he took the twelve disciples apart, and on the way he said unto them, ¹⁸ { Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be delivered unto the chief priests and scribes; and they shall condemn him to death, ¹⁹ and shall deliver him unto the Gentiles to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify: and the third day he shall be raised up.}
²⁰ Then came to him the mother of the sons of Zebedee with her sons, worshipping [him], and asking a certain thing of him. ²¹ And he said unto her, What wouldest thou? She saith unto him, Command that these my two sons may sit, one on thy right hand, and one on thy left hand, in thy kingdom. ²² But Jesus answered and said, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink the cup that I am about to drink? They say unto him, We are able. ²³ He saith unto them, My cup indeed ye shall drink: but to sit on my right hand, and on [my] left hand, is not mine to give; but [it is for them] for whom it hath been prepared of my Father. ²⁴ And when the ten heard it, they were moved with indignation concerning the two brethren. ²⁵ But Jesus called them unto him, and said, { Ye know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. ²⁶ Not so shall it be among you: but whosoever would become great among you shall be your minister; ²⁷ and whosoever would be first among you shall be your servant: ²⁸ even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.} ²⁹ And as they went out from Jericho, a great multitude followed him.
³⁰ And behold, two blind men sitting by the way side, when they heard that Jesus was passing by, cried out, saying, Lord, have mercy on us, thou son of David. ³¹ And the multitude rebuked them, that they should hold their peace: but they cried out the more, saying, Lord, have mercy on us, thou son of David. ³² And Jesus stood still, and called them, and said, What will ye that I should do unto you? ³³ They say unto him, Lord, that our eyes may be opened. ³⁴ And Jesus, being moved with compassion, touched their eyes; and straightway they received their sight, and followed him.

¹¹ Solomon had a vineyard at Baal-hamon;
He let out the vineyard unto keepers;
Every one for the fruit thereof was to bring a thousand [pieces] of silver. ¹² My vineyard, which is mine, is before me:
Thou, O Solomon, shalt have the thousand,
And those that keep the fruit thereof two hundred.

¹ Let me sing for my wellbeloved a song of my beloved touching his vineyard. My wellbeloved had a vineyard in a very fruitful hill: ² and he digged it, and gathered out the stones thereof, and planted it with the choicest vine, and built a tower in the midst of it, and also hewed out a winepress therein: and he looked that it should bring forth grapes, and it brought forth wild grapes.

³ From the thirteenth year of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah, even unto this day, these three and twenty years, the word of Jehovah hath come unto me, and I have spoken unto you, rising up early and speaking; but ye have not hearkened. ⁴ And Jehovah hath sent unto you all his servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, (but ye have not hearkened, nor inclined your ear to hear),

² Repent ye; for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

³⁷ Then saith he unto his disciples, { The harvest indeed is plenteous, but the laborers are few. ³⁸ Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he send forth laborers into his harvest.}

²⁴ Another parable set he before them, saying, { The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man that sowed good seed in his field:

⁴⁴ The kingdom of heaven is like unto a treasure hidden in the field; which a man found, and hid; and in his joy he goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.
⁴⁵ Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is a merchant seeking goodly pearls:

²⁸ But what think ye? A man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work to-day in the vineyard.

³³ Hear another parable: There was a man that was a householder, who planted a vineyard, and set a hedge about it, and digged a winepress in it, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into another country. ³⁴ And when the season of the fruits drew near, he sent his servants to the husbandmen, to receive his fruits. ³⁵ And the husbandmen took his servants, and beat one, and killed another, and stoned another. ³⁶ Again, he sent other servants more than the first: and they did unto them in like manner. ³⁷ But afterward he sent unto them his son, saying, They will reverence my son. ³⁸ But the husbandmen, when they saw the son, said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and take his inheritance. ³⁹ And they took him, and cast him forth out of the vineyard, and killed him. ⁴⁰ When therefore the lord of the vineyard shall come, what will he do unto those husbandmen?} ⁴¹ They say unto him, He will miserably destroy those miserable men, and will let out the vineyard unto other husbandmen, who shall render him the fruits in their seasons. ⁴² Jesus saith unto them, { Did ye never read in the scriptures,
The stone which the builders rejected,
The same was made the head of the corner;
This was from the Lord,
And it is marvelous in our eyes? ⁴³ Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken away from you, and shall be given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof.

² { The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a certain king, who made a marriage feast for his son,

³⁷ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, that killeth the prophets, and stoneth them that are sent unto her! how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!

¹ { Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, who took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.

¹⁴ For [it is] as [when] a man, going into another country, called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods.

³⁴ [It is] as [when] a man, sojourning in another country, having left his house, and given authority to his servants, to each one his work, commanded also the porter to watch.

¹ { I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.

⁵⁸ Wherefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not vain in the Lord.

²¹ make you perfect in every good thing to do his will, working in us that which is well-pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom [be] the glory for ever and ever. Amen.

⁵ Yea, and for this very cause adding on your part all diligence, in your faith supply virtue; and in [your] virtue knowledge; ⁶ and in [your] knowledge self-control; and in [your] self-control patience; and in [your] patience godliness; ⁷ and in [your] godliness brotherly kindness; and in [your] brotherly kindness love. ⁸ For if these things are yours and abound, they make you to be not idle nor unfruitful unto the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. ⁹ For he that lacketh these things is blind, seeing only what is near, having forgotten the cleansing from his old sins. ¹⁰ Wherefore, brethren, give the more diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never stumble:

⁵ Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be mine own possession from among all peoples: for all the earth is mine: ⁶ and ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and a holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.

²⁷ Go thou near, and hear all that Jehovah our God shall say: and speak thou unto us all that Jehovah our God shall speak unto thee; and we will hear it, and do it.
²⁸ And Jehovah heard the voice of your words, when ye spake unto me; and Jehovah said unto me, I have heard the voice of the words of this people, which they have spoken unto thee: they have well said all that they have spoken. ²⁹ Oh that there were such a heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever! ³⁰ Go say to them, Return ye to your tents.

¹⁸ But Samuel ministered before Jehovah, being a child, girded with a linen ephod.

²⁶ And the child Samuel grew on, and increased in favor both with Jehovah, and also with men.

¹ And the child Samuel ministered unto Jehovah before Eli. And the word of Jehovah was precious in those days; there was no frequent vision.

²¹ And Jehovah appeared again in Shiloh; for Jehovah revealed himself to Samuel in Shiloh by the word of Jehovah.

¹¹ And Samuel said unto Jesse, Are here all thy children? And he said, There remaineth yet the youngest, and, behold, he is keeping the sheep. And Samuel said unto Jesse, Send and fetch him; for we will not sit down till he come hither. ¹² And he sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, and withal of a beautiful countenance, and goodly to look upon. And Jehovah said, Arise, anoint him; for this is he.

⁶ And Solomon said, Thou hast showed unto thy servant David my father great lovingkindness, according as he walked before thee in truth, and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with thee; and thou hast kept for him this great lovingkindness, that thou hast given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day. ⁷ And now, O Jehovah my God, thou hast made thy servant king instead of David my father: and I am but a little child; I know not how to go out or come in. ⁸ And thy servant is in the midst of thy people which thou hast chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude. ⁹ Give thy servant therefore an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and evil; for who is able to judge this thy great people?
¹⁰ And the speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing. ¹¹ And God said unto him, Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself long life, neither hast asked riches for thyself, nor hast asked the life of thine enemies, but hast asked for thyself understanding to discern justice;

¹² And it will come to pass, as soon as I am gone from thee, that the Spirit of Jehovah will carry thee whither I know not; and so when I come and tell Ahab, and he cannot find thee, he will slay me: but I thy servant fear Jehovah from my youth.

³ For in the eighth year of his reign, while he was yet young, he began to seek after the God of David his father; and in the twelfth year he began to purge Judah and Jerusalem from the high places, and the Asherim, and the graven images, and the molten images.

¹ Remember also thy Creator in the days of thy youth, before the evil days come, and the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them;

²⁸ But that servant went out, and found one of his fellow-servants, who owed him a hundred shillings: and he laid hold on him, and took [him] by the throat, saying, Pay what thou owest.

¹³ But he answered and said to one of them, Friend, I do thee no wrong: didst not thou agree with me for a shilling?

¹⁹ Show me the tribute money.} And they brought unto him a denarius.

¹⁵ For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and he shall drink no wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother's womb.

³⁵ And on the morrow he took out two shillings, and gave them to the host, and said, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, I, when I come back again, will repay thee.

¹⁵ and that from a babe thou hast known the sacred writings which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

⁶ And I heard as it were a voice in the midst of the four living creatures saying, A measure of wheat for a shilling, and three measures of barley for a shilling; and the oil and the wine hurt thou not.

¹⁵ Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep;
And the idle soul shall suffer hunger.

⁴⁹ Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom: pride, fulness of bread, and prosperous ease was in her and in her daughters; neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.

¹⁶ But whereunto shall I liken this generation? It is like unto children sitting in the marketplaces, who call unto their fellows ¹⁷ and say, We piped unto you, and ye did not dance; we wailed, and ye did not mourn.

⁶ And about the eleventh [hour] he went out, and found others standing; and he saith unto them, Why stand ye here all the day idle? ⁷ They say unto him, Because no man hath hired us. He saith unto them, Go ye also into the vineyard.

²⁵ And it was the third hour, and they crucified him.

¹⁵ For these are not drunken, as ye suppose; seeing it is [but] the third hour of the day;

¹⁷ So he reasoned in the synagogue with Jews and the devout persons, and in the marketplace every day with them that met him. ¹⁸ And certain also of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers encountered him. And some said, What would this babbler say? others, He seemeth to be a setter forth of strange gods: because he preached Jesus and the resurrection. ¹⁹ And they took hold of him, and brought him unto the Areopagus, saying, May we know what this new teaching is, which is spoken by thee? ²⁰ For thou bringest certain strange things to our ears: we would know therefore what these things mean. ²¹ (Now all the Athenians and the strangers sojourning there spent their time in nothing else, but either to tell or to hear some new thing.)

¹³ And withal they learn also [to be] idle, going about from house to house; and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not.

¹² that ye be not sluggish, but imitators of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

⁹ And as Jesus passed by from thence, he saw a man, called Matthew, sitting at the place of toll: and he saith unto him, Follow me. And he arose, and followed him.

²³ And when he was come into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came unto him as he was teaching, and said, By what authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority? ²⁴ And Jesus answered and said unto them, { I also will ask you one question, which if ye tell me, I likewise will tell you by what authority I do these things. ²⁵ The baptism of John, whence was it? from heaven or from men?} And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say unto us, Why then did ye not believe him? ²⁶ But if we shall say, From men; we fear the multitude; for all hold John as a prophet. ²⁷ And they answered Jesus, and said, We know not. He also said unto them, { Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things. ²⁸ But what think ye? A man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work to-day in the vineyard. ²⁹ And he answered and said, I will not: but afterward he repented himself, and went. ³⁰ And he came to the second, and said likewise. And he answered and said, I [go], sir: and went not. ³¹ Which of the two did the will of his father? They say, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, that the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you.

⁷ And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, He is gone in to lodge with a man that is a sinner. ⁸ And Zacchζus stood, and said unto the Lord, Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor, and if I have wrongfully exacted aught of any man, I restore fourfold. ⁹ And Jesus said unto him, { To-day is salvation come to this house, forasmuch as he also is a son of Abraham. ¹⁰ For the Son of man came to seek and to save that which was lost.}

¹⁶ Know ye not, that to whom ye present yourselves [as] servants unto obedience, his servants ye are whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? ¹⁷ But thanks be to God, that, whereas ye were servants of sin, ye became obedient from the heart to that form of teaching whereunto ye were delivered; ¹⁸ and being made free from sin, ye became servants of righteousness. ¹⁹ I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye presented your members [as] servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity, even so now present your members [as] servants to righteousness unto sanctification. ²⁰ For when ye were servants of sin, ye were free in regard of righteousness. ²¹ What fruit then had ye at that time in the things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death. ²² But now being made free from sin and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto sanctification, and the end eternal life.

¹¹ And such were some of you: but ye were washed, but ye were sanctified, but ye were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, and in the Spirit of our God.

¹ Masters, render unto your servants that which is just and equal; knowing that ye also have a Master in heaven.

¹² I thank him that enabled me, [even] Christ Jesus our Lord, for that he counted me faithful, appointing me to [his] service; ¹³ though I was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: howbeit I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief;

⁸ Faithful is the saying, and concerning these things I desire that thou affirm confidently, to the end that they who have believed God may be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men:

¹³ Wherefore girding up the loins of your mind, be sober and set your hope perfectly on the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;

² that ye no longer should live the rest of your time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God. ³ For the time past may suffice to have wrought the desire of the Gentiles, and to have walked in lasciviousness, lusts, winebibbings, revellings, carousings, and abominable idolatries:

¹ Now Jehovah said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto the land that I will show thee: ² and I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and be thou a blessing: ³ and I will bless them that bless thee, and him that curseth thee will I curse: and in thee shall all the families of the earth be blessed. ⁴ So Abram went, as Jehovah had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.

² And Joshua said unto all the people, Thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel, Your fathers dwelt of old time beyond the River, even Terah, the father of Abraham, and the father of Nahor: and they served other gods. ³ And I took your father Abraham from beyond the River, and led him throughout all the land of Canaan, and multiplied his seed, and gave him Isaac.

¹² And when he was in distress, he besought Jehovah his God, and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers. ¹³ And he prayed unto him; and he was entreated of him, and heard his supplication, and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that Jehovah he was God.
¹⁴ Now after this he built an outer wall to the city of David, on the west side of Gihon, in the valley, even to the entrance at the fish gate; and he compassed Ophel about [with it], and raised it up to a very great height: and he put valiant captains in all the fortified cities of Judah. ¹⁵ And he took away the foreign gods, and the idol out of the house of Jehovah, and all the altars that he had built in the mount of the house of Jehovah, and in Jerusalem, and cast them out of the city. ¹⁶ And he built up the altar of Jehovah, and offered thereon sacrifices of peace-offerings and of thanksgiving, and commanded Judah to serve Jehovah, the God of Israel. ¹⁷ Nevertheless the people sacrificed still in the high places, but only unto Jehovah their God.
¹⁸ Now the rest of the acts of Manasseh, and his prayer unto his God, and the words of the seers that spake to him in the name of Jehovah, the God of Israel, behold, they are written among the acts of the kings of Israel. ¹⁹ His prayer also, and how [God] was entreated of him, and all his sin and his trespass, and the places wherein he built high places, and set up the Asherim and the graven images, before he humbled himself: behold, they are written in the history of Hozai.

⁴⁵ Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land until the ninth hour.

³³ And when the sixth hour was come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour. ³⁴ And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

⁴⁴ And it was now about the sixth hour, and a darkness came over the whole land until the ninth hour, ⁴⁵ the sun's light failing: and the veil of the temple was rent in the midst. ⁴⁶ And Jesus, crying with a loud voice, said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said this, he gave up the ghost.

³⁹ He saith unto them, Come, and ye shall see. They came therefore and saw where he abode; and they abode with him that day: it was about the tenth hour.

⁶ and Jacob's well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus by the well. It was about the sixth hour.

⁹ Jesus answered, { Are there not twelve hours in the day? If a man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world.

¹ Now Peter and John were going up into the temple at the hour of prayer, [being] the ninth [hour].

³ He saw in a vision openly, as it were about the ninth hour of the day, an angel of God coming in unto him, and saying to him, Cornelius.

⁹ Now on the morrow, as they were on their journey, and drew nigh unto the city, Peter went up upon the housetop to pray, about the sixth hour:

²⁴ By faith Moses, when he was grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter; ²⁵ choosing rather to share ill treatment with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; ²⁶ accounting the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures of Egypt: for he looked unto the recompense of reward.

¹⁰ Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do [it] with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in Sheol, whither thou goest.

⁴⁰ But the other answered, and rebuking him said, Dost thou not even fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation? ⁴¹ And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss. ⁴² And he said, Jesus, remember me when thou comest in thy kingdom. ⁴³ And he said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To-day shalt thou be with me in Paradise.

⁴ We must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.

⁹ Go ye therefore unto the partings of the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage feast. ¹⁰ And those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was filled with guests.

²¹ And the servant came, and told his lord these things. Then the master of the house being angry said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor and maimed and blind and lame. ²² And the servant said, Lord, what thou didst command is done, and yet there is room. ²³ And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and constrain [them] to come in, that my house may be filled.

¹⁶ saying, What shall we do to these men? for that indeed a notable miracle hath been wrought through them, is manifest to all that dwell in Jerusalem; and we cannot deny it.

³⁰ The times of ignorance therefore God overlooked; but now he commandeth men that they should all everywhere repent: ³¹ inasmuch as he hath appointed a day in which he will judge the world in righteousness by the man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.

¹⁴ How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? ¹⁵ and how shall they preach, except they be sent? even as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that bring glad tidings of good things!
¹⁶ But they did not all hearken to the glad tidings. For Isaiah saith, Lord, who hath believed our report? ¹⁷ So belief [cometh] of hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.

²⁵ Now to him that is able to establish you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery which hath been kept in silence through times eternal,

¹¹ Wherefore remember, that once ye, the Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called Circumcision, in the flesh, made by hands; ¹² that ye were at that time separate from Christ, alienated from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of the promise, having no hope and without God in the world.

⁵ which in other generations was not made known unto the sons of men, as it hath now been revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets in the Spirit; ⁶ [to wit], that the Gentiles are fellow-heirs, and fellow-members of the body, and fellow-partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel,

⁸ knowing that whatsoever good thing each one doeth, the same shall he receive again from the Lord, whether [he be] bond or free.

²⁶ [even] the mystery which hath been hid for ages and generations: but now hath it been manifested to his saints,

¹⁰ for God is not unrighteous to forget your work and the love which ye showed toward his name, in that ye ministered unto the saints, and still do minister.

² And Abram said, O Lord Jehovah, what wilt thou give me, seeing I go childless, and he that shall be possessor of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?

⁴ And Joseph found favor in his sight, and he ministered unto him: and he made him overseer over his house, and all that he had he put into his hand. ⁵ And it came to pass from the time that he made him overseer in his house, and over all that he had, that Jehovah blessed the Egyptian's house for Joseph's sake; and the blessing of Jehovah was upon all that he had, in the house and in the field. ⁶ And he left all that he had in Joseph's hand; and he knew not aught [that was] with him, save the bread which he did eat. And Joseph was comely, and well-favored.

¹⁹ And they came near to the steward of Joseph's house, and they spake unto him at the door of the house,

¹³ Thou shalt not oppress thy neighbor, nor rob him: the wages of a hired servant shall not abide with thee all night until the morning.

¹⁵ in his day thou shalt give him his hire, neither shall the sun go down upon it (for he is poor, and setteth his heart upon it); lest he cry against thee unto Jehovah, and it be sin unto thee.

³⁹ and the enemy that sowed them is the devil: and the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are angels. ⁴⁰ As therefore the tares are gathered up and burned with fire; so shall it be in the end of the world.

¹⁹ Now after a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and maketh a reckoning with them.

³¹ But when the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the angels with him, then shall he sit on the throne of his glory:

³ and Joanna the wife of Chuzas Herod's steward, and Susanna, and many others, who ministered unto them of their substance.

⁷ And in that same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the laborer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house.

⁴² And the Lord said, { Who then is the faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall set over his household, to give them their portion of food in due season?

¹ And he said also unto the disciples, { There was a certain rich man, who had a steward; and the same was accused unto him that he was wasting his goods. ² And he called him, and said unto him, What is this that I hear of thee? render the account of thy stewardship; for thou canst be no longer steward.

⁶ who will render to every man according to his works: ⁷ to them that by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honor and incorruption, eternal life: ⁸ but unto them that are factious, and obey not the truth, but obey unrighteousness, [shall be] wrath and indignation, ⁹ tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that worketh evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Greek; ¹⁰ but glory and honor and peace to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek:

¹ Let a man so account of us, as of ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God. ² Here, moreover, it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.

¹⁰ For we must all be made manifest before the judgment-seat of Christ; that each one may receive the things [done] in the body, according to what he hath done, whether [it be] good or bad.

⁷ For the bishop must be blameless, as God's steward; not self-willed, not soon angry, no brawler, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre;

²⁸ so Christ also, having been once offered to bear the sins of many, shall appear a second time, apart from sin, to them that wait for him, unto salvation.

¹⁰ according as each hath received a gift, ministering it among yourselves, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God;

¹¹ And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat upon it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. ¹² And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne; and books were opened: and another book was opened, which is [the book] of life: and the dead were judged out of the things which were written in the books, according to their works.

² And when he had agreed with the laborers for a shilling a day, he sent them into his vineyard.

³ For what saith the scripture? And Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned unto him for righteousness. ⁴ Now to him that worketh, the reward is not reckoned as of grace, but as of debt. ⁵ But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is reckoned for righteousness. ⁶ Even as David also pronounceth blessing upon the man, unto whom God reckoneth righteousness apart from works,

²⁰ And the law came in besides, that the trespass might abound; but where sin abounded, grace did abound more exceedingly: ²¹ that, as sin reigned in death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

⁶ to the praise of the glory of his grace, which he freely bestowed on us in the Beloved: ⁷ in whom we have our redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, ⁸ which he made to abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence,

⁸ for by grace have ye been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, [it is] the gift of God; ⁹ not of works, that no man should glory. ¹⁰ For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God afore prepared that we should walk in them.

¹⁴ and the grace of our Lord abounded exceedingly with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus. ¹⁵ Faithful is the saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief: ¹⁶ howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me as chief might Jesus Christ show forth all his longsuffering, for an ensample of them that should thereafter believe on him unto eternal life.

³⁰ And the Pharisees and their scribes murmured against his disciples, saying, Why do ye eat and drink with the publicans and sinners?

² And both the Pharisees and the scribes murmured, saying, This man receiveth sinners, and eateth with them.

²⁸ But he was angry, and would not go in: and his father came out, and entreated him. ²⁹ But he answered and said to his father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee, and I never transgressed a commandment of thine; and [yet] thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends: ³⁰ but when this thy son came, who hath devoured thy living with harlots, thou killedst for him the fatted calf.

⁷ And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, He is gone in to lodge with a man that is a sinner.

² And when Peter was come up to Jerusalem, they that were of the circumcision contended with him, ³ saying, Thou wentest in to men uncircumcised, and didst eat with them.

⁴⁵ But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with jealousy, and contradicted the things which were spoken by Paul, and blasphemed.

²¹ And he said unto me, Depart: for I will send thee forth far hence unto the Gentiles.
²² And they gave him audience unto this word; and they lifted up their voice, and said, Away with such a fellow from the earth: for it is not fit that he should live.

¹⁶ forbidding us to speak to the Gentiles that they may be saved; to fill up their sins always: but the wrath is come upon them to the uttermost.

¹⁶ These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their lusts (and their mouth speaketh great swelling [words]), showing respect of persons for the sake of advantage.

² Yet they seek me daily, and delight to know my ways: as a nation that did righteousness, and forsook not the ordinance of their God, they ask of me righteous judgments; they delight to draw near unto God. ³ Wherefore have we fasted, [say they], and thou seest not? [wherefore] have we afflicted our soul, and thou takest no knowledge? Behold, in the day of your fast ye find [your own] pleasure, and exact all your labors.

⁸ And it came to pass, when the sun arose, that God prepared a sultry east wind; and the sun beat upon the head of Jonah, that he fainted, and requested for himself that he might die, and said, It is better for me to die than to live.

³ [and] to speak unto the priests of the house of Jehovah of hosts, and to the prophets, saying, Should I weep in the fifth month, separating myself, as I have done these so many years? ⁴ Then came the word of Jehovah of hosts unto me, saying, ⁵ Speak unto all the people of the land, and to the priests, saying, When ye fasted and mourned in the fifth and in the seventh [month], even these seventy years, did ye at all fast unto me, even to me?

¹³ Ye say also, Behold, what a weariness is it! and ye have snuffed at it, saith Jehovah of hosts; and ye have brought that which was taken by violence, and the lame, and the sick; thus ye bring the offering: should I accept this at your hand? saith Jehovah.

¹⁴ Ye have said, It is vain to serve God; and what profit is it that we have kept his charge, and that we have walked mournfully before Jehovah of hosts?

⁵⁵ And when [ye see] a south wind blowing, ye say, There will be a scorching heat; and it cometh to pass.

¹⁰ But when thou art bidden, go and sit down in the lowest place; that when he that hath bidden thee cometh, he may say to thee, Friend, go up higher: then shalt thou have glory in the presence of all that sit at meat with thee. ¹¹ For every one that exalteth himself shall be humbled; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.}

¹¹ The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as the rest of men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. ¹² I fast twice in the week; I give tithes of all that I get.

²² even the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ unto all them that believe; for there is no distinction; ²³ for all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God; ²⁴ being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

²⁷ Where then is the glorying? It is excluded. By what manner of law? of works? Nay: but by a law of faith.

³⁰ if so be that God is one, and he shall justify the circumcision by faith, and the uncircumcision through faith.

³⁰ What shall we say then? That the Gentiles, who followed not after righteousness, attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith: ³¹ but Israel, following after a law of righteousness, did not arrive at [that] law. ³² Wherefore? Because [they sought it] not by faith, but as it were by works. They stumbled at the stone of stumbling;

¹ Brethren, my heart's desire and my supplication to God is for them, that they may be saved. ² For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. ³ For being ignorant of God's righteousness, and seeking to establish their own, they did not subject themselves to the righteousness of God.

⁵ Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace. ⁶ But if it is by grace, it is no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace.

¹¹ Even unto this present hour we both hunger, and thirst, and are naked, and are buffeted, and have no certain dwelling-place;

²³ Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak as one beside himself) I more; in labors more abundantly, in prisons more abundantly, in stripes above measure, in deaths oft. ²⁴ Of the Jews five times received I forty [stripes] save one. ²⁵ Thrice was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day have I been in the deep; ²⁶ [in] journeyings often, [in] perils of rivers, [in] perils of robbers, [in] perils from [my] countrymen, [in] perils from the Gentiles, [in] perils in the city, [in] perils in the wilderness, [in] perils in the sea, [in] perils among false brethren; ²⁷ [in] labor and travail, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness. ²⁸ Besides those things that are without, there is that which presseth upon me daily, anxiety for all the churches.

⁶ [to wit], that the Gentiles are fellow-heirs, and fellow-members of the body, and fellow-partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel,

¹¹ For the sun ariseth with the scorching wind, and withereth the grass; and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his goings.

²⁵ That be far from thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked, that so the righteous should be as the wicked; that be far from thee: shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?

⁸ Who goeth in company with the workers of iniquity,
And walketh with wicked men? ⁹ For he hath said, It profiteth a man nothing
That he should delight himself with God.
¹⁰ Therefore hearken unto me, ye men of understanding:
Far be it from God, that he should do wickedness,
And from the Almighty, that he should commit iniquity. ¹¹ For the work of a man will he render unto him,
And cause every man to find according to his ways. ¹² Yea, of a surety, God will not do wickedly,
Neither will the Almighty pervert justice.

¹⁷ Shall even one that hateth justice govern?
And wilt thou condemn him that is righteous [and] mighty?— ¹⁸ [Him] that saith to a king, [Thou art] vile,
[Or] to nobles, [Ye are] wicked;

² Thinkest thou this to be [thy] right,
[Or] sayest thou, My righteousness is more than God's,

⁸ Wilt thou even annul my judgment?
Wilt thou condemn me, that thou mayest be justified?

¹² and he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding-garment? And he was speechless.

⁵⁰ And Jesus said unto him, Friend, [do] that for which thou art come. Then they came and laid hands on Jesus, and took him.

¹⁴ What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? God forbid. ¹⁵ For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.

²⁰ Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why didst thou make me thus?

¹⁶ And he said, Come with me, and see my zeal for Jehovah. So they made him ride in his chariot.

³⁰ And Jehovah said unto Jehu, Because thou hast done well in executing that which is right in mine eyes, [and] hast done unto the house of Ahab according to all that was in my heart, thy sons of the fourth generation shall sit on the throne of Israel. ³¹ But Jehu took no heed to walk in the law of Jehovah, the God of Israel, with all his heart: he departed not from the sins of Jeroboam, wherewith he made Israel to sin.

¹⁸ Son of man, Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon caused his army to serve a great service against Tyre: every head was made bald, and every shoulder was worn; yet had he no wages, nor his army, from Tyre, for the service that he had served against it. ¹⁹ Therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Behold, I will give the land of Egypt unto Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon; and he shall carry off her multitude, and take her spoil, and take her prey; and it shall be the wages for his army. ²⁰ I have given him the land of Egypt as his recompense for which he served, because they wrought for me, saith the Lord Jehovah.

² When therefore thou doest alms, sound not a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have received their reward.

⁶ But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thine inner chamber, and having shut thy door, pray to thy Father who is in secret, and thy Father who seeth in secret shall recompense thee.

¹⁶ Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may be seen of men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have received their reward.

³¹ And he said unto him, Son, thou art ever with me, and all that is mine is thine.

²⁵ But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and Lazarus in like manner evil things: but now here he is comforted, and thou art in anguish.

² even as thou gavest him authority over all flesh, that to all whom thou hast given him, he should give eternal life.

⁴ God forbid: yea, let God be found true, but every man a liar; as it is written,
That thou mightest be justified in thy words,
And mightest prevail when thou comest into judgment.

¹⁹ Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it speaketh to them that are under the law; that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may be brought under the judgment of God:

¹⁹ And he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and will proclaim the name of Jehovah before thee; and I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show mercy on whom I will show mercy.

⁶ For thou art a holy people unto Jehovah thy God: Jehovah thy God hath chosen thee to be a people for his own possession, above all peoples that are upon the face of the earth. ⁷ Jehovah did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people; for ye were the fewest of all peoples: ⁸ but because Jehovah loveth you, and because he would keep the oath which he sware unto your fathers, hath Jehovah brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondage, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.

⁹ Beware that there be not a base thought in thy heart, saying, The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand; and thine eye be evil against thy poor brother, and thou give him nought; and he cry unto Jehovah against thee, and it be sin unto thee.

⁵⁴ The man that is tender among you, and very delicate, his eye shall be evil toward his brother, and toward the wife of his bosom, and toward the remnant of his children whom he hath remaining;

⁴ Howbeit Jehovah, the God of Israel, chose me out of all the house of my father to be king over Israel for ever: for he hath chosen Judah to be prince; and in the house of Judah, the house of my father; and among the sons of my father he took pleasure in me to make me king over all Israel; ⁵ and of all my sons (for Jehovah hath given me many sons), he hath chosen Solomon my son to sit upon the throne of the kingdom of Jehovah over Israel.

⁶ Eat thou not the bread of him that hath an evil eye,
Neither desire thou his dainties:

²² He that hath an evil eye hasteth after riches,
And knoweth not that want shall come upon him.

⁵ I have made the earth, the men and the beasts that are upon the face of the earth, by my great power and by my outstretched arm; and I give it unto whom it seemeth right unto me. ⁶ And now have I given all these lands into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, my servant; and the beasts of the field also have I given him to serve him. ⁷ And all the nations shall serve him, and his son, and his son's son, until the time of his own land come: and then many nations and great kings shall make him their bondman.

¹ But it displeased Jonah exceedingly, and he was angry. ² And he prayed unto Jehovah, and said, I pray thee, O Jehovah, was not this my saying, when I was yet in my country? Therefore I hasted to flee unto Tarshish; for I knew that thou art a gracious God, and merciful, slow to anger, and abundant in lovingkindness, and repentest thee of the evil. ³ Therefore now, O Jehovah, take, I beseech thee, my life from me; for it is better for me to die than to live. ⁴ And Jehovah said, Doest thou well to be angry?

²³ But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is the darkness!

²⁵ At that season Jesus answered and said, { I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou didst hide these things from the wise and understanding, and didst reveal them unto babes:

²² covetings, wickednesses, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, railing, pride, foolishness:

¹⁵ For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion. ¹⁶ So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that hath mercy. ¹⁷ For the scripture saith unto Pharaoh, For this very purpose did I raise thee up, that I might show in thee my power, and that my name might be published abroad in all the earth. ¹⁸ So then he hath mercy on whom he will, and whom he will be hardeneth.
¹⁹ Thou wilt say then unto me, Why doth he still find fault? For who withstandeth his will? ²⁰ Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why didst thou make me thus? ²¹ Or hath not the potter a right over the clay, from the same lump to make one part a vessel unto honor, and another unto dishonor? ²² What if God, willing to show his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering vessels of wrath fitted unto destruction: ²³ and that he might make known the riches of his glory upon vessels of mercy, which he afore prepared unto glory, ²⁴ [even] us, whom he also called, not from the Jews only, but also from the Gentiles?

⁷ For who maketh thee to differ? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? but if thou didst receive it, why dost thou glory as if thou hadst not received it?

¹¹ in whom also we were made a heritage, having been foreordained according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his will;

¹ And you [did he make alive], when ye were dead through your trespasses and sins,

⁵ even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace have ye been saved),

¹⁸ Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.

⁹ Murmur not, brethren, one against another, that ye be not judged: behold, the judge standeth before the doors.

¹³ Enter ye in by the narrow gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many are they that enter in thereby.

¹¹ And I say unto you, that many shall come from the east and the west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven: ¹² but the sons of the kingdom shall be cast forth into the outer darkness: there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.}

³⁰ But many shall be last [that are] first; and first [that are] last.}

³¹ Which of the two did the will of his father? They say, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, that the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you.

¹⁴ For many are called, but few chosen.}

³¹ But many [that are] first shall be last; and the last first.}

⁴⁷ Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, [the same] loveth little.}

²⁸ There shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and yourselves cast forth without. ²⁹ And they shall come from the east and west, and from the north and south, and shall sit down in the kingdom of God. ³⁰ And behold, there are last who shall be first, and there are first who shall be last.}

²⁴ For I say unto you, that none of those men that were bidden shall taste of my supper.}

⁷ I say unto you, that even so there shall be joy in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, [more] than over ninety and nine righteous persons, who need no repentance.

¹⁷ And Jesus answering said, { Were not the ten cleansed? but where are the nine? ¹⁸ Were there none found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger?}

¹⁹ The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, Behold how ye prevail nothing: lo, the world is gone after him.
²⁰ Now there were certain Greeks among those that went up to worship at the feast: ²¹ these therefore came to Philip, who was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and asked him, saying, Sir, we would see Jesus. ²² Philip cometh and telleth Andrew: Andrew cometh, and Philip, and they tell Jesus.

²⁰ And the law came in besides, that the trespass might abound; but where sin abounded, grace did abound more exceedingly:

³⁰ and whom he foreordained, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.

³⁰ What shall we say then? That the Gentiles, who followed not after righteousness, attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith:

¹³ And for this cause we also thank God without ceasing, that, when ye received from us the word of the message, [even the word] of God, ye accepted [it] not [as] the word of men, but, as it is in truth, the word of God, which also worketh in you that believe.

¹³ But we are bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, for that God chose you from the beginning unto salvation in sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth: ¹⁴ whereunto he called you through our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

²³ For if any one is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a mirror: ²⁴ for he beholdeth himself, and goeth away, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. ²⁵ But he that looketh into the perfect law, the [law] of liberty, and [so] continueth, being not a hearer that forgetteth but a doer that worketh, this man shall be blessed in his doing.

¹⁷ And Jehovah said, Shall I hide from Abraham that which I do;

¹¹ And he answered and said unto them, { Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.

¹³ Now when Jesus came into the parts of Cζsarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Who do men say that the Son of man is?

³² And they were on the way, going up to Jerusalem; and Jesus was going before them: and they were amazed; and they that followed were afraid. And he took again the twelve, and began to tell them the things that were to happen unto him, ³³ [saying], { Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be delivered unto the chief priests and the scribes; and they shall condemn him to death, and shall deliver him unto the Gentiles: ³⁴ and they shall mock him, and shall spit upon him, and shall scourge him, and shall kill him; and after three days he shall rise again.}

³¹ And he took unto him the twelve, and said unto them, { Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all the things that are written through the prophets shall be accomplished unto the Son of man. ³² For he shall be delivered up unto the Gentiles, and shall be mocked, and shamefully treated, and spit upon: ³³ and they shall scourge and kill him: and the third day he shall rise again.} ³⁴ And they understood none of these things; and this saying was hid from them, and they perceived not the things that were said.

¹² On the morrow a great multitude that had come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,

¹⁵ No longer do I call you servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I heard from my Father, I have made known unto you.

⁴¹ not to all the people, but unto witnesses that were chosen before of God, [even] to us, who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead.

¹ Why do the nations rage,
And the peoples meditate a vain thing? ² The kings of the earth set themselves,
And the rulers take counsel together,
Against Jehovah, and against his anointed, [saying], ³ Let us break their bonds asunder,
And cast away their cords from us.

My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?
[Why art thou so] far from helping me, [and from] the words of my groaning? ² O my God, I cry in the daytime, but thou answerest not;
And in the night season, and am not silent. ³ But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel. ⁴ Our fathers trusted in thee:
They trusted, and thou didst deliver them. ⁵ They cried unto thee, and were delivered:
They trusted in thee, and were not put to shame. ⁶ But I am a worm, and no man;
A reproach of men, and despised of the people. ⁷ All they that see me laugh me to scorn:
They shoot out the lip, they shake the head, [saying], ⁸ Commit [thyself] unto Jehovah; let him deliver him:
Let him rescue him, seeing he delighteth in him. ⁹ But thou art he that took me out of the womb;
Thou didst make me trust [when I was] upon my mother's breasts. ¹⁰ I was cast upon thee from the womb;
Thou art my God since my mother bare me. ¹¹ Be not far from me; for trouble is near;
For there is none to help. ¹² Many bulls have compassed me;
Strong bulls of Bashan have beset me round. ¹³ They gape upon me with their mouth,
[As] a ravening and a roaring lion. ¹⁴ I am poured out like water,
And all my bones are out of joint:
My heart is like wax;
It is melted within me. ¹⁵ My strength is dried up like a potsherd;
And my tongue cleaveth to my jaws;
And thou hast brought me into the dust of death. ¹⁶ For dogs have compassed me:
A company of evil-doers have inclosed me;
They pierced my hands and my feet. ¹⁷ I may count all my bones.
They look and stare upon me; ¹⁸ They part my garments among them,
And upon my vesture do they cast lots. ¹⁹ But be not thou far off, O Jehovah:
O thou my succor, haste thee to help me. ²⁰ Deliver my soul from the sword,
My darling from the power of the dog. ²¹ Save me from the lion's mouth;
Yea, from the horns of the wild-oxen thou hast answered me. ²² I will declare thy name unto my brethren:
In the midst of the assembly will I praise thee. ²³ Ye that fear Jehovah, praise him;
All ye the seed of Jacob, glorify him;
And stand in awe of him, all ye the seed of Israel. ²⁴ For he hath not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted;
Neither hath he hid his face from him;
But when he cried unto him, he heard. ²⁵ Of thee cometh my praise in the great assembly:
I will pay my vows before them that fear him. ²⁶ The meek shall eat and be satisfied;
They shall praise Jehovah that seek after him:
Let your heart live for ever. ²⁷ All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn unto Jehovah;
And all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before thee. ²⁸ For the kingdom is Jehovah's;
And he is the ruler over the nations. ²⁹ All the fat ones of the earth shall eat and worship:
All they that go down to the dust shall bow before him,
Even he that cannot keep his soul alive. ³⁰ A seed shall serve him;
It shall be told of the Lord unto the [next] generation. ³¹ They shall come and shall declare his righteousness
Unto a people that shall be born, that he hath done it.

Save me, O God;
For the waters are come in unto my soul. ² I sink in deep mire, where there is no standing:
I am come into deep waters, where the floods overflow me. ³ I am weary with my crying; my throat is dried:
Mine eyes fail while I wait for my God. ⁴ They that hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of my head:
They that would cut me off, being mine enemies wrongfully, are mighty:
That which I took not away I have to restore. ⁵ O God, thou knowest my foolishness;
And my sins are not hid from thee. ⁶ Let not them that wait for thee be put to shame through me, O Lord Jehovah of hosts:
Let not those that seek thee be brought to dishonor through me, O God of Israel. ⁷ Because for thy sake I have borne reproach;
Shame hath covered my face. ⁸ I am become a stranger unto my brethren,
And an alien unto my mother's children. ⁹ For the zeal of thy house hath eaten me up;
And the reproaches of them that reproach thee are fallen upon me. ¹⁰ When I wept, [and chastened] my soul with fasting,
That was to my reproach. ¹¹ When I made sackcloth my clothing,
I became a byword unto them. ¹² They that sit in the gate talk of me;
And [I am] the song of the drunkards. ¹³ But as for me, my prayer is unto thee, O Jehovah, in an acceptable time:
O God, in the abundance of thy lovingkindness,
Answer me in the truth of thy salvation. ¹⁴ Deliver me out of the mire, and let me not sink:
Let me be delivered from them that hate me, and out of the deep waters. ¹⁵ Let not the waterflood overwhelm me,
Neither let the deep swallow me up;
And let not the pit shut its mouth upon me. ¹⁶ Answer me, O Jehovah; for thy lovingkindness is good:
According to the multitude of thy tender mercies turn thou unto me. ¹⁷ And hide not thy face from thy servant;
For I am in distress; answer me speedily. ¹⁸ Draw nigh unto my soul, and redeem it:
Ransom me because of mine enemies. ¹⁹ Thou knowest my reproach, and my shame, and my dishonor:
Mine adversaries are all before thee. ²⁰ Reproach hath broken my heart; and I am full of heaviness:
And I looked for some to take pity, but there was none;
And for comforters, but I found none. ²¹ They gave me also gall for my food;
And in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink. ²² Let their table before them become a snare;
And when they are in peace, [let it become] a trap. ²³ Let their eyes be darkened, so that they cannot see;
And make their loins continually to shake. ²⁴ Pour out thine indignation upon them,
And let the fierceness of thine anger overtake them. ²⁵ Let their habitation be desolate;
Let none dwell in their tents. ²⁶ For they persecute him whom thou hast smitten;
And they tell of the sorrow of those whom thou hast wounded. ²⁷ Add iniquity unto their iniquity;
And let them not come into thy righteousness. ²⁸ Let them be blotted out of the book of life,
And not be written with the righteous. ²⁹ But I am poor and sorrowful:
Let thy salvation, O God, set me up on high. ³⁰ I will praise the name of God with a song,
And will magnify him with thanksgiving. ³¹ And it will please Jehovah better than an ox,
[Or] a bullock that hath horns and hoofs. ³² The meek have seen it, and are glad:
Ye that seek after God, let your heart live. ³³ For Jehovah heareth the needy,
And despiseth not his prisoners. ³⁴ Let heaven and earth praise him,
The seas, and everything that moveth therein. ³⁵ For God will save Zion, and build the cities of Judah;
And they shall abide there, and have it in possession. ³⁶ The seed also of his servants shall inherit it;
And they that love his name shall dwell therein.

¹ Who hath believed our message? and to whom hath the arm of Jehovah been revealed? ² For he grew up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him. ³ He was despised, and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and as one from whom men hide their face he was despised; and we esteemed him not.
⁴ Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows; yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. ⁵ But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. ⁶ All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and Jehovah hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
⁷ He was oppressed, yet when he was afflicted he opened not his mouth; as a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and as a sheep that before its shearers is dumb, so he opened not his mouth. ⁸ By oppression and judgment he was taken away; and as for his generation, who [among them] considered that he was cut off out of the land of the living for the transgression of my people to whom the stroke [was due]? ⁹ And they made his grave with the wicked, and with a rich man in his death; although he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.
¹⁰ Yet it pleased Jehovah to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see [his] seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of Jehovah shall prosper in his hand. ¹¹ He shall see of the travail of his soul, [and] shall be satisfied: by the knowledge of himself shall my righteous servant justify many; and he shall bear their iniquities. ¹² Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he poured out his soul unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors: yet he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

²⁴ Seventy weeks are decreed upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most holy. ²⁵ Know therefore and discern, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the anointed one, the prince, shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: it shall be built again, with street and moat, even in troublous times. ²⁶ And after the threescore and two weeks shall the anointed one be cut off, and shall have nothing: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and even unto the end shall be war; desolations are determined. ²⁷ And he shall make a firm covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease; and upon the wing of abominations [shall come] one that maketh desolate; and even unto the full end, and that determined, shall [wrath] be poured out upon the desolate.

²¹ From that time began Jesus to show unto his disciples, that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and the third day be raised up.

²² And while they abode in Galilee, Jesus said unto them, { The Son of man shall be delivered up into the hands of men; ²³ and they shall kill him, and the third day he shall be raised up.} And they were exceeding sorry.

² Ye know that after two days the passover cometh, and the Son of man is delivered up to be crucified.

⁶⁶ what think ye? They answered and said, He is worthy of death.

¹ Now when morning was come, all the chief priests and the elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death:

⁶⁴ Ye have heard the blasphemy: what think ye? And they all condemned him to be worthy of death. ⁶⁵ And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say unto him, Prophesy: and the officers received him with blows of their hands.

⁷¹ And they said, What further need have we of witness? for we ourselves have heard from his own mouth.

²³ him, being delivered up by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye by the hand of lawless men did crucify and slay:

²⁷ for of a truth in this city against thy holy Servant Jesus, whom thou didst anoint, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, were gathered together, ²⁸ to do whatsoever thy hand and thy council foreordained to come to pass.

⁷ All they that see me laugh me to scorn:
They shoot out the lip, they shake the head, [saying], ⁸ Commit [thyself] unto Jehovah; let him deliver him:
Let him rescue him, seeing he delighteth in him.

¹⁶ Like the profane mockers in feasts,
They gnashed upon me with their teeth.

¹⁹ Thy dead shall live; my dead bodies shall arise. Awake and sing, ye that dwell in the dust; for thy dew is [as] the dew of herbs, and the earth shall cast forth the dead.

³ He was despised, and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and as one from whom men hide their face he was despised; and we esteemed him not.

² After two days will he revive us: on the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live before him.

⁴⁰ for as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the whale; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

⁶⁷ Then did they spit in his face and buffet him: and some smote him with the palms of their hands, ⁶⁸ saying, Prophesy unto us, thou Christ: who is he that struck thee?

² and they bound him, and led him away, and delivered him up to Pilate the governor.
³ Then Judas, who betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders, ⁴ saying, I have sinned in that I betrayed innocent blood. But they said, What is that to us? see thou [to it]. ⁵ And he cast down the pieces of silver into the sanctuary, and departed; and he went away and hanged himself. ⁶ And the chief priests took the pieces of silver, and said, It is not lawful to put them into the treasury, since it is the price of blood. ⁷ And they took counsel, and bought with them the potter's field, to bury strangers in. ⁸ Wherefore that field was called, The field of blood, unto this day. ⁹ Then was fulfilled that which was spoken through Jeremiah the prophet, saying, And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him that was priced, whom [certain] of the children of Israel did price; ¹⁰ and they gave them for the potter's field, as the Lord appointed me.

²⁷ Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the Praetorium, and gathered unto him the whole band. ²⁸ And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe. ²⁹ And they platted a crown of thorns and put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand; and they kneeled down before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews! ³⁰ And they spat upon him, and took the reed and smote him on the head. ³¹ And when they had mocked him, they took off from him the robe, and put on him his garments, and led him away to crucify him.

⁶⁵ And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say unto him, Prophesy: and the officers received him with blows of their hands.

¹ And straightway in the morning the chief priests with the elders and scribes, and the whole council, held a consultation, and bound Jesus, and carried him away, and delivered him up to Pilate.

¹⁶ And the soldiers led him away within the court, which is the Prζtorium; and they call together the whole band. ¹⁷ And they clothe him with purple, and platting a crown of thorns, they put it on him; ¹⁸ and they began to salute him, Hail, King of the Jews! ¹⁹ And they smote his head with a reed, and spat upon him, and bowing their knees worshipped him. ²⁰ And when they had mocked him, they took off from him the purple, and put on him his garments. And they lead him out to crucify him.

²⁹ And they that passed by railed on him, wagging their heads, and saying, Ha! thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, ³⁰ save thyself, and come down from the cross. ³¹ In like manner also the chief priests mocking [him] among themselves with the scribes said, He saved others; himself he cannot save.

¹ And the whole company of them rose up, and brought him before Pilate. ² And they began to accuse him, saying, We found this man perverting our nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Cζsar, and saying that he himself is Christ a king. ³ And Pilate asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answered him and said, Thou sayest. ⁴ And Pilate said unto the chief priests and the multitudes, I find no fault in this man. ⁵ But they were the more urgent, saying, He stirreth up the people, teaching throughout all Judζa, and beginning from Galilee even unto this place.

¹¹ And Herod with his soldiers set him at nought, and mocked him, and arraying him in gorgeous apparel sent him back to Pilate.

⁴⁶ and he said unto them, { Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer, and rise again from the dead the third day;

²⁸ They lead Jesus therefore from Caiaphas into the Praetorium: and it was early; and they themselves entered not into the Praetorium, that they might not be defiled, but might eat the passover. ²⁹ Pilate therefore went out unto them, and saith, What accusation bring ye against this man? ³⁰ They answered and said unto him, If this man were not an evildoer, we should not have delivered him up unto thee. ³¹ Pilate therefore said unto them, Take him yourselves, and judge him according to your law. The Jews said unto him, It is not lawful for us to put any man to death: ³² that the word of Jesus might be fulfilled, which he spake, signifying by what manner of death he should die.
³³ Pilate therefore entered again into the Praetorium, and called Jesus, and said unto him, Art thou the King of the Jews? ³⁴ Jesus answered, Sayest thou this of thyself, or did others tell it thee concerning me? ³⁵ Pilate answered, Am I a Jew? Thine own nation and the chief priests delivered thee unto me: what hast thou done? ³⁶ Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence. ³⁷ Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end have I been born, and to this end am I come into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice. ³⁸ Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find no crime in him.

¹ Then Pilate therefore took Jesus, and scourged him. ² And the soldiers platted a crown of thorns, and put it on his head, and arrayed him in a purple garment; ³ and they came unto him, and said, Hail, King of the Jews! and they struck him with their hands. ⁴ And Pilate went out again, and saith unto them, Behold, I bring him out to you, that ye may know that I find no crime in him.

¹³ The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, hath glorified his Servant Jesus; whom ye delivered up, and denied before the face of Pilate, when he had determined to release him. ¹⁴ But ye denied the Holy and Righteous One, and asked for a murderer to be granted unto you, ¹⁵ and killed the Prince of life; whom God raised from the dead; whereof we are witnesses. ¹⁶ And by faith in his name hath his name made this man strong, whom ye behold and know: yea, the faith which is through him hath given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all.

²⁷ for of a truth in this city against thy holy Servant Jesus, whom thou didst anoint, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, were gathered together,

¹¹ And coming to us, and taking Paul's girdle, he bound his own feet and hands, and said, Thus saith the Holy Spirit, So shall the Jews at Jerusalem bind the man that owneth this girdle, and shall deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles.

³ For I delivered unto you first of all that which also I received: that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; ⁴ and that he was buried; and that he hath been raised on the third day according to the scriptures; ⁵ and that he appeared to Cephas; then to the twelve; ⁶ then he appeared to above five hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater part remain until now, but some are fallen asleep; ⁷ then he appeared to James; then to all the apostles;

¹¹ And they came into the house and saw the young child with Mary his mother; and they fell down and worshipped him; and opening their treasures they offered unto him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh.

²¹ And going on from thence he saw two other brethren, James the [son] of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them.

² And behold, there came to him a leper and worshipped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.

³³ And they that were in the boat worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.

²⁵ But she came and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me.

⁵⁶ among whom was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of the sons of Zebedee.

¹⁷ And when they saw him, they worshipped [him]; but some doubted.

³⁵ And there come near unto him James and John, the sons of Zebedee, saying unto him, Teacher, we would that thou shouldest do for us whatsoever we shall ask of thee. ³⁶ And he said unto them, What would ye that I should do for you? ³⁷ And they said unto him, Grant unto us that we may sit, one on thy right hand, and one on [thy] left hand, in thy glory. ³⁸ But Jesus said unto them, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink the cup that I drink? or to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? ³⁹ And they said unto him, We are able. And Jesus said unto them, { The cup that I drink ye shall drink; and with the baptism that I am baptized withal shall ye be baptized: ⁴⁰ but to sit on my right hand or on [my] left hand is not mine to give; but [it is for them] for whom it hath been prepared.} ⁴¹ And when the ten heard it, they began to be moved with indignation concerning James and John. ⁴² And Jesus called them to him, and saith unto them, { Ye know that they who are accounted to rule over the Gentiles lord it over them; and their great ones exercise authority over them. ⁴³ But it is not so among you: but whosoever would become great among you, shall be your minister; ⁴⁴ and whosoever would be first among you, shall be servant of all. ⁴⁵ For the Son of man also came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.}

⁴⁰ And there were also women beholding from afar: among whom [were] both Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the less and of Joses, and Salome;

¹⁹ Bath-sheba therefore went unto king Solomon, to speak unto him for Adonijah. And the king rose up to meet her, and bowed himself unto her, and sat down on his throne, and caused a throne to be set for the king's mother; and she sat on his right hand.

⁵ In Gibeon Jehovah appeared to Solomon in a dream by night; and God said, Ask what I shall give thee.

³ Then said the king unto her, What wilt thou, queen Esther? and what is thy request? it shall be given thee even to the half of the kingdom.

At thy right hand doth stand the queen in gold of Ophir.

Until I make thine enemies thy footstool.

⁵ And seekest thou great things for thyself? seek them not; for, behold, I will bring evil upon all flesh, saith Jehovah; but thy life will I give unto thee for a prey in all places whither thou goest.

¹ In that hour came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who then is greatest in the kingdom of heaven?

²⁸ And Jesus said unto them, { Verily I say unto you, that ye who have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit on the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

³² And Jesus stood still, and called them, and said, What will ye that I should do unto you?

²² and when the daughter of Herodias herself came in and danced, she pleased Herod and them that sat at meat with him; and the king said unto the damsel, Ask of me whatsoever thou wilt, and I will give it thee.

³⁶ And he said unto them, What would ye that I should do for you? ³⁷ And they said unto him, Grant unto us that we may sit, one on thy right hand, and one on [thy] left hand, in thy glory.

⁵¹ And Jesus answered him, and said, What wilt thou that I should do unto thee? And the blind man said unto him, Rabboni, that I may receive my sight.

¹⁹ So then the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken unto them, was received up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God.

²⁰ And being asked by the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God cometh, he answered them and said, { The kingdom of God cometh not with observation: ²¹ neither shall they say, Lo, here! or, There! for lo, the kingdom of God is within you.}

⁴¹ What wilt thou that I should do unto thee? And he said, Lord, that I may receive my sight.

¹¹ And as they heard these things, he added and spake a parable, because he was nigh to Jerusalem, and [because] they supposed that the kingdom of God was immediately to appear.

²⁴ And there arose also a contention among them, which of them was accounted to be greatest.

⁷ If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatsoever ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

⁶ They therefore, when they were come together, asked him, saying, Lord, dost thou at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?

³⁴ who is he that condemneth? It is Christ Jesus that died, yea rather, that was raised from the dead, who is at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.

¹⁰ In love of the brethren be tenderly affectioned one to another; in honor preferring one another;

¹ If then ye were raised together with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated on the right hand of God.

² and to Apphia our sister, and to Archippus our fellow-soldier, and to the church in thy house: ³ Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

¹⁸ Pride [goeth] before destruction,
And a haughty spirit before a fall.

¹⁷ Awake, awake, stand up, O Jerusalem, that hast drunk at the hand of Jehovah the cup of his wrath; thou hast drunken the bowl of the cup of staggering, and drained it.

²² Thus saith thy Lord Jehovah, and thy God that pleadeth the cause of his people, Behold, I have taken out of thy hand the cup of staggering, even the bowl of the cup of my wrath; thou shalt no more drink it again:

¹⁵ For thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel, unto me: Take this cup of the wine of wrath at my hand, and cause all the nations, to whom I send thee, to drink it. ¹⁶ And they shall drink, and reel to and fro, and be mad, because of the sword that I will send among them. ¹⁷ Then took I the cup at Jehovah's hand, and made all the nations to drink, unto whom Jehovah had sent me: ¹⁸ [to wit], Jerusalem, and the cities of Judah, and the kings thereof, and the princes thereof, to make them a desolation, an astonishment, a hissing, and a curse, as it is this day; ¹⁹ Pharaoh king of Egypt, and his servants, and his princes, and all his people; ²⁰ and all the mingled people, and all the kings of the land of the Uz, and all the kings of the Philistines, and Ashkelon, and Gaza, and Ekron, and the remnant of Ashdod; ²¹ Edom, and Moab, and the children of Ammon; ²² and all the kings of Tyre, and all the kings of Sidon, and the kings of the isle which is beyond the sea; ²³ Dedan, and Tema, and Buz, and all that have the corners [of their hair] cut off; ²⁴ and all the kings of Arabia, and all the kings of the mingled people that dwell in the wilderness; ²⁵ and all the kings of Zimri, and all the kings of Elam, and all the kings of the Medes; ²⁶ and all the kings of the north, far and near, one with another; and all the kingdoms of the world, which are upon the face of the earth: and the king of Sheshach shall drink after them.
²⁷ And thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: Drink ye, and be drunken, and spew, and fall, and rise no more, because of the sword which I will send among you. ²⁸ And it shall be, if they refuse to take the cup at thy hand to drink, then shalt thou say unto them, Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Ye shall surely drink. ²⁹ For, lo, I begin to work evil at the city which is called by my name; and should ye be utterly unpunished? Ye shall not be unpunished; for I will call for a sword upon all the inhabitants of the earth, saith Jehovah of hosts.
³⁰ Therefore prophesy thou against them all these words, and say unto them, Jehovah will roar from on high, and utter his voice from his holy habitation; he will mightily roar against his fold; he will give a shout, as they that tread [the grapes], against all the inhabitants of the earth. ³¹ A noise shall come even to the end of the earth; for Jehovah hath a controversy with the nations; he will enter into judgment with all flesh: as for the wicked, he will give them to the sword, saith Jehovah.
³² Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, Behold, evil shall go forth from nation to nation, and a great tempest shall be raised up from the uttermost parts of the earth. ³³ And the slain of Jehovah shall be at that day from one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth: they shall not be lamented, neither gathered, nor buried; they shall be dung upon the face of the ground. ³⁴ Wail, ye shepherds, and cry; and wallow [in ashes], ye principal of the flock; for the days of your slaughter and of your dispersions are fully come, and ye shall fall like a goodly vessel. ³⁵ And the shepherds shall have no way to flee, nor the principal of the flock to escape. ³⁶ A voice of the cry of the shepherds, and the wailing of the principal of the flock! for Jehovah layeth waste their pasture. ³⁷ And the peaceable folds are brought to silence because of the fierce anger of Jehovah. ³⁸ He hath left his covert, as the lion; for their land is become an astonishment because of the fierceness of the oppressing [sword], and because of his fierce anger.

¹² For thus saith Jehovah: Behold, they to whom it pertained not to drink of the cup shall assuredly drink; and art thou he that shall altogether go unpunished? thou shalt not go unpunished, but thou shalt surely drink.

³⁵ Peter saith unto him, Even if I must die with thee, [yet] will I not deny thee. Likewise also said all the disciples.

³⁹ And he went forward a little, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass away from me: nevertheless, not as I will, but as thou wilt.

⁴² Again a second time he went away, and prayed, saying, My Father, if this cannot pass away, except I drink it, thy will be done.

⁵⁶ But all this is come to pass, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled.} Then all the disciples left him, and fled.

³⁸ But Jesus said unto them, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink the cup that I drink? or to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? ³⁹ And they said unto him, We are able. And Jesus said unto them, { The cup that I drink ye shall drink; and with the baptism that I am baptized withal shall ye be baptized:

³⁶ And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; remove this cup from me: howbeit not what I will, but what thou wilt.

⁵⁰ But I have a baptism to be baptized with; and how am I straitened till it be accomplished!

⁴² saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me; nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.

¹¹ Jesus therefore said unto Peter, Put up the sword into the sheath: the cup which the Father hath given me, shall I not drink it?

²⁶ And in like manner the Spirit also helpeth our infirmity: for we know not how to pray as we ought; but the Spirit himself maketh intercession for [us] with groanings which cannot be uttered;

³ Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may spend [it] in your pleasures.

³⁴ Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

⁴⁰ but to sit on my right hand or on [my] left hand is not mine to give; but [it is for them] for whom it hath been prepared.}

² And he killed James the brother of John with the sword.

¹⁷ and if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with [him], that we may be also glorified with [him].

⁹ but as it is written,
Things which eye saw not, and ear heard not,
And [which] entered not into the heart of man,
Whatsoever things God prepared for them that love him.

⁷ and our hope for you is stedfast; knowing that, as ye are partakers of the sufferings, so also are ye of the comfort.

²⁴ Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and fill up on my part that which is lacking of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body's sake, which is the church;

¹¹ Faithful is the saying: For if we died with him, we shall also live with him: ¹² if we endure, we shall also reign with him: if we shall deny him, he also will deny us:

¹⁶ But now they desire a better [country], that is, a heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed of them, to be called their God; for he hath prepared for them a city.

⁹ I John, your brother and partaker with you in the tribulation and kingdom and patience [which are] in Jesus, was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God and the testimony of Jesus.

¹⁰ By pride cometh only contention;
But with the well-advised is wisdom.

⁴¹ And when the ten heard it, they began to be moved with indignation concerning James and John.

²³ And they began to question among themselves, which of them it was that should do this thing.
²⁴ And there arose also a contention among them, which of them was accounted to be greatest. ²⁵ And he said unto them, { The kings of the Gentiles have lordship over them; and they that have authority over them are called Benefactors.

⁴ Love suffereth long, [and] is kind; love envieth not; love vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,

³ [doing] nothing through faction or through vainglory, but in lowliness of mind each counting other better than himself;

¹⁴ But if ye have bitter jealousy and faction in your heart, glory not and lie not against the truth.

⁵ Or think ye that the scripture speaketh in vain? Doth the spirit which he made to dwell in us long unto envying? ⁶ But he giveth more grace. Wherefore [the scripture] saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace to the humble.

⁵ Likewise, ye younger, be subject unto the elder. Yea, all of you gird yourselves with humility, to serve one another: for God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace to the humble.

¹² For this cause the king was angry and very furious, and commanded to destroy all the wise men of Babylon. ¹³ So the decree went forth, and the wise men were to be slain; and they sought Daniel and his companions to be slain.

³⁷ Thou, O king, art king of kings, unto whom the God of heaven hath given the kingdom, the power, and the strength, and the glory; ³⁸ and wheresoever the children of men dwell, the beasts of the field and the birds of the heavens hath he given into thy hand, and hath made thee to rule over them all: thou art the head of gold. ³⁹ And after thee shall arise another kingdom inferior to thee; and another third kingdom of brass, which shall bear rule over all the earth. ⁴⁰ And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron, forasmuch as iron breaketh in pieces and subdueth all things; and as iron that crusheth all these, shall it break in pieces and crush. ⁴¹ And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potters' clay, and part of iron, it shall be a divided kingdom; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay. ⁴² And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken. ⁴³ And whereas thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men; but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron doth not mingle with clay. ⁴⁴ And in the days of those kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed, nor shall the sovereignty thereof be left to another people; but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever. ⁴⁵ Forasmuch as thou sawest that a stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure.

² Then Nebuchadnezzar the king sent to gather together the satraps, the deputies, and the governors, the judges, the treasurers, the counsellors, the sheriffs, and all the rulers of the provinces, to come to the dedication of the image which Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up. ³ Then the satraps, the deputies, and the governors, the judges, the treasurers, the counsellors, the sheriffs, and all the rulers of the provinces, were gathered together unto the dedication of the image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up; and they stood before the image that Nebuchadnezzar had set up. ⁴ Then the herald cried aloud, To you it is commanded, O peoples, nations, and languages, ⁵ that at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, dulcimer, and all kinds of music, ye fall down and worship the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king hath set up; ⁶ and whoso falleth not down and worshippeth shall the same hour be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. ⁷ Therefore at that time, when all the peoples heard the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and all kinds of music, all the peoples, the nations, and the languages, fell down and worshipped the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up.

¹⁵ Now if ye be ready that at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of music, ye fall down and worship the image which I have made, [well]: but if ye worship not, ye shall be cast the same hour into the midst of a burning fiery furnace; and who is that god that shall deliver you out of my hands?

¹⁹ Then was Nebuchadnezzar full of fury, and the form of his visage was changed against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego: [therefore] he spake, and commanded that they should heat the furnace seven times more than it was wont to be heated. ²⁰ And he commanded certain mighty men that were in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, [and] to cast them into the burning fiery furnace. ²¹ Then these men were bound in their hosen, their tunics, and their mantles, and their [other] garments, and were cast into the midst of the burning fiery furnace. ²² Therefore because the king's commandment was urgent, and the furnace exceeding hot, the flame of the fire slew those men that took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego.

¹⁹ and because of the greatness that he gave him, all the peoples, nations, and languages trembled and feared before him: whom he would he slew, and whom he would he kept alive; and whom he would he raised up, and whom he would he put down.

²⁹ Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

³ and said, Verily I say unto you, { Except ye turn, and become as little children, ye shall in no wise enter into the kingdom of heaven. ⁴ Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

²⁵ But Jesus called them unto him, and said, { Ye know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. ²⁶ Not so shall it be among you: but whosoever would become great among you shall be your minister; ²⁷ and whosoever would be first among you shall be your servant: ²⁸ even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.}

⁴² And Jesus called them to him, and saith unto them, { Ye know that they who are accounted to rule over the Gentiles lord it over them; and their great ones exercise authority over them.

²⁵ And he said unto them, { The kings of the Gentiles have lordship over them; and they that have authority over them are called Benefactors. ²⁶ But ye [shall] not [be] so: but he that is the greater among you, let him become as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve. ²⁷ For which is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at meat? but I am in the midst of you as he that serveth.

¹² So when he had washed their feet, and taken his garments, and sat down again, he said unto them, { Know ye what I have done to you? ¹³ Ye call me, Teacher, and, Lord: and ye say well; for so I am. ¹⁴ If I then, the Lord and the Teacher, have washed your feet, ye also ought to wash one another's feet. ¹⁵ For I have given you an example, that ye also should do as I have done to you. ¹⁶ Verily, verily, I say unto you, a servant is not greater than his lord; neither one that is sent greater than he that sent him. ¹⁷ If ye know these things, blessed are ye if ye do them.

¹³ In thy filthiness is lewdness: because I have cleansed thee and thou wast not cleansed, thou shalt not be cleansed from thy filthiness any more, till I have caused my wrath toward thee to rest.

⁸ But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your teacher, and all ye are brethren. ⁹ And call no man your father on the earth: for one is your Father, [even] he who is in heaven. ¹⁰ Neither be ye called masters: for one is your master, [even] the Christ. ¹¹ But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant. ¹² And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be humbled; and whosoever shall humble himself shall be exalted.

⁴⁴ Then shall they also answer, saying, Lord, when saw we thee hungry, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?

⁵⁵ And many women were there beholding from afar, who had followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering unto him:

³⁵ And he sat down, and called the twelve; and he saith unto them, If any man would be first, he shall be last of all, and servant of all.

⁴³ But it is not so among you: but whosoever would become great among you, shall be your minister;

⁴⁵ For the Son of man also came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.}

⁷ And he spake a parable unto those that were bidden, when he marked how they chose out the chief seats; saying unto them, ⁸ { When thou art bidden of any man to a marriage feast, sit not down in the chief seat; lest haply a more honorable man than thou be bidden of him, ⁹ and he that bade thee and him shall come and say to thee, Give this man place; and then thou shalt begin with shame to take the lowest place.

¹⁴ I say unto you, This man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be humbled; but he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.}

³⁶ Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.

⁵ And when they were at Salamis, they proclaimed the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews: and they had also John as their attendant.

²⁴ Not that we have lordship over your faith, but are helpers of your joy: for in faith ye stand fast.

⁴ (for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but mighty before God to the casting down of strongholds), ⁵ casting down imaginations, and every high thing that is exalted against the knowledge of God, and bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ; ⁶ and being in readiness to avenge all disobedience, when your obedience shall be made full. ⁷ Ye look at the things that are before your face. If any man trusteth in himself that he is Christ's, let him consider this again with himself, that, even as he is Christ's, so also are we. ⁸ For though I should glory somewhat abundantly concerning our authority (which the Lord gave for building you up, and not for casting you down), I shall not be put to shame: ⁹ that I may not seem as if I would terrify you by my letters. ¹⁰ For, His letters, they say, are weighty and strong; but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech of no account.

¹⁸ (the Lord grant unto him to find mercy of the Lord in that day); and in how many things he ministered at Ephesus, thou knowest very well.

¹³ whom I would fain have kept with me, that in thy behalf he might minister unto me in the bonds of the gospel: ¹⁴ Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to do service for the sake of them that shall inherit salvation?

¹¹ if any man speaketh, [speaking] as it were oracles of God; if any man ministereth, [ministering] as of the strength which God supplieth: that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, whose is the glory and the dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

³ neither as lording it over the charge allotted to you, but making yourselves ensamples to the flock.

⁹ I wrote somewhat unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the preeminence among them, receiveth us not. ¹⁰ Therefore, if I come, I will bring to remembrance his works which he doeth, prating against us with wicked words: and not content therewith, neither doth he himself receive the brethren, and them that would he forbiddeth and casteth [them] out of the church.

¹¹ And I saw another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like unto a lamb, and he spake as a dragon. ¹² And he exerciseth all the authority of the first beast in his sight. And he maketh the earth and them that dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose death-stroke was healed. ¹³ And he doeth great signs, that he should even make fire to come down out of heaven upon the earth in the sight of men. ¹⁴ And he deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by reason of the signs which it was given him to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast who hath the stroke of the sword and lived. ¹⁵ And it was given [unto him] to give breath to it, [even] to the image of the breast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as should not worship the image of the beast should be killed. ¹⁶ And he causeth all, the small and the great, and the rich and the poor, and the free and the bond, that there be given them a mark on their right hand, or upon their forehead; ¹⁷ and that no man should be able to buy or to sell, save he that hath the mark, [even] the name of the beast or the number of his name.

⁶ And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus. And when I saw her, I wondered with a great wonder.

⁴ Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

³³ And they came to Capernaum: and when he was in the house he asked them, What were ye reasoning on the way? ³⁴ But they held their peace: for they had disputed one with another on the way, who [was] the greatest. ³⁵ And he sat down, and called the twelve; and he saith unto them, If any man would be first, he shall be last of all, and servant of all.

²⁶ But ye [shall] not [be] so: but he that is the greater among you, let him become as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve.

³⁴ Ye yourselves know that these hands ministered unto my necessities, and to them that were with me. ³⁵ In all things I gave you an example, that so laboring ye ought to help the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that he himself said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.

¹⁴ I am debtor both to Greeks and to Barbarians, both to the wise and to the foolish.

¹⁹ For though I was free from all [men], I brought myself under bondage to all, that I might gain the more. ²⁰ And to the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, not being myself under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law; ²¹ to them that are without law, as without law, not being without law to God, but under law to Christ, that I might gain them that are without law. ²² To the weak I became weak, that I might gain the weak: I am become all things to all men, that I may by all means save some. ²³ And I do all things for the gospel's sake, that I may be a joint partaker thereof.

⁵ For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus' sake.

⁵ For I reckon that I am not a whit behind the very chiefest apostles.

²³ Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak as one beside himself) I more; in labors more abundantly, in prisons more abundantly, in stripes above measure, in deaths oft. ²⁴ Of the Jews five times received I forty [stripes] save one. ²⁵ Thrice was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day have I been in the deep; ²⁶ [in] journeyings often, [in] perils of rivers, [in] perils of robbers, [in] perils from [my] countrymen, [in] perils from the Gentiles, [in] perils in the city, [in] perils in the wilderness, [in] perils in the sea, [in] perils among false brethren; ²⁷ [in] labor and travail, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness.

¹⁵ And I will most gladly spend and be spent for your souls. If I love you more abundantly, am I loved the less?

²⁴ Then [God] is gracious unto him, and saith,
Deliver him from going down to the pit,
I have found a ransom.

⁷ None [of them] can by any means redeem his brother,
Nor give to God a ransom for him;

⁵ But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

⁸ By oppression and judgment he was taken away; and as for his generation, who [among them] considered that he was cut off out of the land of the living for the transgression of my people to whom the stroke [was due]?

¹⁰ Yet it pleased Jehovah to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see [his] seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of Jehovah shall prosper in his hand. ¹¹ He shall see of the travail of his soul, [and] shall be satisfied: by the knowledge of himself shall my righteous servant justify many; and he shall bear their iniquities.

²⁴ Seventy weeks are decreed upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most holy. ²⁵ Know therefore and discern, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the anointed one, the prince, shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: it shall be built again, with street and moat, even in troublous times. ²⁶ And after the threescore and two weeks shall the anointed one be cut off, and shall have nothing: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and even unto the end shall be war; desolations are determined.

²⁰ And Jesus saith unto him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the heaven [have] nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.

²⁸ for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many unto remission of sins.

²⁴ And he said unto them, { This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many.

²⁷ For which is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at meat? but I am in the midst of you as he that serveth.

¹⁵ even as the Father knoweth me, and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep.

⁵⁰ nor do ye take account that it is expedient for you that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not. ⁵¹ Now this he said not of himself: but, being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for the nation; ⁵² and not for the nation only, but that he might also gather together into one the children of God that are scattered abroad.

⁴ riseth from supper, and layeth aside his garments; and he took a towel, and girded himself. ⁵ Then he poureth water into the basin, and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded. ⁶ So he cometh to Simon Peter. He saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet? ⁷ Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt understand hereafter. ⁸ Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me. ⁹ Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head. ¹⁰ Jesus saith to him, He that is bathed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all. ¹¹ For he knew him that should betray him; therefore said he, Ye are not all clean.

²⁴ being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: ²⁵ whom God set forth [to be] a propitiation, through faith, in his blood, to show his righteousness because of the passing over of the sins done aforetime, in the forbearance of God; ²⁶ for the showing, [I say], of his righteousness at this present season: that he might himself be just, and the justifier of him that hath faith in Jesus.

²⁵ who was delivered up for our trespasses, and was raised for our justification.

¹⁵ But not as the trespass, so also [is] the free gift. For if by the trespass of the one the many died, much more did the grace of God, and the gift by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, abound unto the many. ¹⁶ And not as through one that sinned, [so] is the gift: for the judgment [came] of one unto condemnation, but the free gift [came] of many trespasses unto justification. ¹⁷ For if, by the trespass of the one, death reigned through the one; much more shall they that receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one, [even] Jesus Christ. ¹⁸ So then as through one trespass [the judgment came] unto all men to condemnation; even so through one act of righteousness [the free gift came] unto all men to justification of life. ¹⁹ For as through the one man's disobedience the many were made sinners, even so through the obedience of the one shall the many be made righteous.

⁹ For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might become rich.

¹³ Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us; for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:

⁷ in whom we have our redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace,

² and walk in love, even as Christ also loved you, and gave himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for an odor of a sweet smell.

⁴ not looking each of you to his own things, but each of you also to the things of others. ⁵ Have this mind in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: ⁶ who, existing in the form of God, counted not the being on an equality with God a thing to be grasped, ⁷ but emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in the likeness of men; ⁸ and being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, becoming obedient [even] unto death, yea, the death of the cross.

⁶ who gave himself a ransom for all; the testimony [to be borne] in its own times;

¹⁴ who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a people for his own possession, zealous of good works.

¹⁰ For it became him, for whom are all things, and through whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the author of their salvation perfect through sufferings.

⁸ though he was a Son, yet learned obedience by the things which he suffered;

¹⁸ knowing that ye were redeemed, not with corruptible things, with silver or gold, from your vain manner of life handed down from your fathers; ¹⁹ but with precious blood, as of a lamb without spot, [even the blood] of Christ:

²⁴ who his own self bare our sins in his body upon the tree, that we, having died unto sins, might live unto righteousness; by whose stripes ye were healed.

¹⁸ Because Christ also suffered for sins once, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God; being put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit;

² and he is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for the whole world.

⁵ and from Jesus Christ, [who is] the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loveth us, and loosed us from our sins by his blood;

⁸ And when he had taken the book, the four living creatures and the four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having each one a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. ⁹ And they sing a new song, saying,
Worthy art thou to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and didst purchase unto God with thy blood men of every tribe, and tongue, and people, and nation,

²⁷ And as Jesus passed by from thence, two blind men followed him, crying out, and saying, Have mercy on us, thou son of David. ²⁸ And when he was come into the house, the blind men came to him: and Jesus saith unto them, Believe ye that I am able to do this? They say unto him, Yea, Lord. ²⁹ Then touched he their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it done unto you. ³⁰ And their eyes were opened. And Jesus strictly charged them, saying, See that no man know it. ³¹ But they went forth, and spread abroad his fame in all that land.

⁴⁶ And they come to Jericho: and as he went out from Jericho, with his disciples and a great multitude, the son of Timζus, Bartimζus, a blind beggar, was sitting by the way side. ⁴⁷ And when he heard that it was Jesus the Nazarene, he began to cry out, and say, Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy on me. ⁴⁸ And many rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he cried out the more a great deal, Thou son of David, have mercy on me. ⁴⁹ And Jesus stood still, and said, Call ye him. And they call the blind man, saying unto him, Be of good cheer: rise, he calleth thee. ⁵⁰ And he, casting away his garment, sprang up, and came to Jesus. ⁵¹ And Jesus answered him, and said, What wilt thou that I should do unto thee? And the blind man said unto him, Rabboni, that I may receive my sight. ⁵² And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole. And straightway he received his sight, and followed him in the way.

³⁵ And it came to pass, as he drew nigh unto Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the way side begging: ³⁶ and hearing a multitude going by, he inquired what this meant. ³⁷ And they told him, that Jesus of Nazareth passeth by. ³⁸ And he cried, saying, Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy on me. ³⁹ And they that went before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he cried out the more a great deal, Thou son of David, have mercy on me. ⁴⁰ And Jesus stood, and commanded him to be brought unto him: and when he was come near, he asked him, ⁴¹ What wilt thou that I should do unto thee? And he said, Lord, that I may receive my sight. ⁴² And Jesus said unto him, Receive thy sight: thy faith hath made thee whole. ⁴³ And immediately he received his sight, and followed him, glorifying God: and all the people, when they saw it, gave praise unto God.

⁸ Jehovah openeth [the eyes of] the blind;
Jehovah raiseth up them that are bowed down;
Jehovah loveth the righteous;

¹⁸ And in that day shall the deaf hear the words of the book, and the eyes of the blind shall see out of obscurity and out of darkness.

⁵ Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped. ⁶ Then shall the lame man leap as a hart, and the tongue of the dumb shall sing; for in the wilderness shall waters break out, and streams in the desert.

¹⁶ And I will bring the blind by a way that they know not; in paths that they know not will I lead them; I will make darkness light before them, and crooked places straight. These things will I do, and I will not forsake them.

¹⁸ Hear, ye deaf; and look, ye blind, that ye may see.

¹⁰ We grope for the wall like the blind; yea, we grope as they that have no eyes: we stumble at noonday as in the twilight; among them that are lusty we are as dead men.

¹ The Spirit of the Lord Jehovah is upon me; because Jehovah hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening [of the prison] to them that are bound; ² to proclaim the year of Jehovah's favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;

²² Then was brought unto him one possessed with a demon, blind and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the dumb man spake and saw. ²³ And all the multitudes were amazed, and said, Can this be the son of David?

²² And behold, a Canaanitish woman came out from those borders, and cried, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a demon.

⁹ And the multitudes that went before him, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the son of David: Blessed [is] he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest.

¹⁴ And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple; and he healed them.

⁴² saying, What think ye of the Christ? whose son is he? They say unto him, [The son] of David.

⁴⁶ And they come to Jericho: and as he went out from Jericho, with his disciples and a great multitude, the son of Timζus, Bartimζus, a blind beggar, was sitting by the way side.

¹⁸ { The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
Because he anointed me to preach good tidings to the poor:
He hath sent me to proclaim release to the captives,
And recovering of sight to the blind,
To set at liberty them that are bruised,

²¹ In that hour he cured many of diseases and plagues and evil spirits; and on many that were blind he bestowed sight.

¹ And as he passed by, he saw a man blind from his birth. ² And his disciples asked him, saying, Rabbi, who sinned, this man, or his parents, that he should be born blind? ³ Jesus answered, { Neither did this man sin, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him. ⁴ We must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. ⁵ When I am in the world, I am the light of the world.} ⁶ When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and anointed his eyes with the clay, ⁷ and said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam (which is by interpretation, Sent) . He went away therefore, and washed, and came seeing. ⁸ The neighbors therefore, and they that saw him aforetime, that he was a beggar, said, Is not this he that sat and begged? ⁹ Others said, It is he: others said, No, but he is like him. He said, I am [he]. ¹⁰ They said therefore unto him, How then were thine eyes opened? ¹¹ He answered, The man that is called Jesus made clay, and anointed mine eyes, and said unto me, Go to Siloam, and wash: so I went away and washed, and I received sight. ¹² And they said unto him, Where is he? He saith, I know not.

³⁰ Being therefore a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins he would set [one] upon his throne;

³ concerning his Son, who was born of the seed of David according to the flesh, ⁴ who was declared [to be] the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead; [even] Jesus Christ our Lord,

²⁵ And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob's thigh was strained, as he wrestled with him. ²⁶ And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me. ²⁷ And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob. ²⁸ And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for thou hast striven with God and with men, and hast prevailed. ²⁹ And Jacob asked him, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore is it that thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed him there.

⁷ Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: ⁸ for every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

²³ But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us.

¹³ Then were there brought unto him little children, that he should lay his hands on them, and pray: and the disciples rebuked them.

⁸ I say unto you, Though he will not rise and give him because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will arise and give him as many as he needeth. ⁹ And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. ¹⁰ For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

¹ And he spake a parable unto them to the end that they ought always to pray, and not to faint; ² saying, { There was in a city a judge, who feared not God, and regarded not man: ³ and there was a widow in that city; and she came oft unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary. ⁴ And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man; ⁵ yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest she wear me out by her continual coming.} ⁶ And the Lord said, { Hear what the unrighteous judge saith. ⁷ And shall not God avenge his elect, that cry to him day and night, and [yet] he is longsuffering over them? ⁸ I say unto you, that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?}

³⁹ And they that went before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he cried out the more a great deal, Thou son of David, have mercy on me.

² Continue stedfastly in prayer, watching therein with thanksgiving;

¹⁷ pray without ceasing;

³⁷ Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: For this, moreover, will I be inquired of by the house of Israel, to do it for them: I will increase them with men like a flock.

²¹ And he said unto her, What wouldest thou? She saith unto him, Command that these my two sons may sit, one on thy right hand, and one on thy left hand, in thy kingdom.

²⁹ wherefore also I came without gainsaying, when I was sent for. I ask therefore with what intent ye sent for me.

⁶ In nothing be anxious; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

¹⁸ Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold
Wondrous things out of thy law.

¹⁷ that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him; ¹⁸ having the eyes of your heart enlightened, that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, ¹⁹ and what the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to that working of the strength of his might

⁶⁷ Before I was afflicted I went astray;
But now I observe thy word.

⁷¹ It is good for me that I have been afflicted;
That I may learn thy statutes.

⁸ Jehovah is gracious, and merciful;
Slow to anger, and of great lovingkindness.

¹⁵ And he touched her hand, and the fever left her; and she arose, and ministered unto him.

²⁹ Then touched he their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it done unto you.

³⁶ But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion for them, because they were distressed and scattered, as sheep not having a shepherd.

¹⁴ And he came forth, and saw a great multitude, and he had compassion on them, and healed their sick.

³² And Jesus called unto him his disciples, and said, I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three days and have nothing to eat: and I would not send them away fasting, lest haply they faint on the way.

³³ And he took him aside from the multitude privately, and put his fingers into his ears, and he spat, and touched his tongue;

¹³ And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not.

⁴³ And immediately he received his sight, and followed him, glorifying God: and all the people, when they saw it, gave praise unto God.

⁵¹ But Jesus answered and said, Suffer ye [them] thus far. And he touched his ear, and healed him.

³³ When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews [also] weeping who came with her, he groaned in the spirit, and was troubled, ³⁴ and said, Where have ye laid him? They say unto him, Lord, come and see. ³⁵ Jesus wept.

¹⁸ to open their eyes, that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive remission of sins and an inheritance among them that are sanctified by faith in me.}

¹⁷ Wherefore it behooved him in all things to be made like unto his brethren, that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people.

¹⁵ For we have not a high priest that cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but one that hath been in all points tempted like as [we are, yet] without sin. ¹⁶ Let us therefore draw near with boldness unto the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy, and may find grace to help [us] in time of need.

⁸ Finally, [be] ye all likeminded, compassionate, loving as brethren, tenderhearted, humbleminded:
