¹ Praise ye Jehovah;
For it is good to sing praises unto our God;
For it is pleasant, [and] praise is comely. ² Jehovah doth build up Jerusalem;
He gathereth together the outcasts of Israel. ³ He healeth the broken in heart,
And bindeth up their wounds. ⁴ He counteth the number of the stars;
He calleth them all by [their] names. ⁵ Great is our Lord, and mighty in power;
His understanding is infinite. ⁶ Jehovah upholdeth the meek:
He bringeth the wicked down to the ground. ⁷ Sing unto Jehovah with thanksgiving;
Sing praises upon the harp unto our God, ⁸ Who covereth the heavens with clouds,
Who prepareth rain for the earth,
Who maketh grass to grow upon the mountains. ⁹ He giveth to the beast his food,
[And] to the young ravens which cry. ¹⁰ He delighteth not in the strength of the horse:
He taketh no pleasure in the legs of a man. ¹¹ Jehovah taketh pleasure in them that fear him,
In those that hope in his lovingkindness. ¹² Praise Jehovah, O Jerusalem;
Praise thy God, O Zion. ¹³ For he hath strengthened the bars of thy gates;
He hath blessed thy children within thee. ¹⁴ He maketh peace in thy borders;
He filleth thee with the finest of the wheat. ¹⁵ He sendeth out his commandment upon earth;
His word runneth very swiftly. ¹⁶ He giveth snow like wool;
He scattereth the hoar-frost like ashes. ¹⁷ He casteth forth his ice like morsels:
Who can stand before his cold? ¹⁸ He sendeth out his word, and melteth them:
He causeth his wind to blow, and the waters flow. ¹⁹ He showeth his word unto Jacob,
His statutes and his ordinances unto Israel. ²⁰ He hath not dealt so with any nation;
And as for his ordinances, they have not known them.
Praise ye Jehovah.

¹ Rejoice in Jehovah, O ye righteous:
Praise is comely for the upright.

⁴ These things I remember, and pour out my soul within me,
How I went with the throng, and led them to the house of God,
With the voice of joy and praise, a multitude keeping holyday.

³ Because thy lovingkindness is better than life,
My lips shall praise thee. ⁴ So will I bless thee while I live:
I will lift up my hands in thy name. ⁵ My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness;
And my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips;

It is a good thing to give thanks unto Jehovah,
And to sing praises unto thy name, O Most High;

I was glad when they said unto me,
Let us go unto the house of Jehovah. ² Our feet are standing
Within thy gates, O Jerusalem, ³ Jerusalem, that art builded
As a city that is compact together; ⁴ Whither the tribes go up, even the tribes of Jehovah,
[For] an ordinance for Israel,
To give thanks unto the name of Jehovah.

³ Praise ye Jehovah; for Jehovah is good:
Sing praises unto his name; for it is pleasant.

⁹ And they sing a new song, saying,
Worthy art thou to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and didst purchase unto God with thy blood men of every tribe, and tongue, and people, and nation, ¹⁰ and madest them [to be] unto our God a kingdom and priests; and they reign upon the earth. ¹¹ And I saw, and I heard a voice of many angels round about the throne and the living creatures and the elders; and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands; ¹² saying with a great voice,
Worthy is the Lamb that hath been slain to receive the power, and riches, and wisdom, and might, and honor, and glory, and blessing. ¹³ And every created thing which is in the heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and on the sea, and all things that are in them, heard I saying,
Unto him that sitteth on the throne, and unto the Lamb, [be] the blessing, and the honor, and the glory, and the dominion, for ever and ever. ¹⁴ And the four living creatures said, Amen. And the elders fell down and worshipped.

¹ After these things I heard as it were a great voice of a great multitude in heaven, saying,
Hallelujah; Salvation, and glory, and power, belong to our God: ² for true and righteous are his judgments; for he hath judged the great harlot, her that corrupted the earth with her fornication, and he hath avenged the blood of his servants at her hand. ³ And a second time they say, Hallelujah. And her smoke goeth up for ever and ever. ⁴ And the four and twenty elders and the four living creatures fell down and worshipped God that sitteth on the throne, saying,
Amen; Hallelujah. ⁵ And a voice came forth from the throne, saying,
Give praise to our God, all ye his servants, ye that fear him, the small and the great. ⁶ And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunders, saying,
Hallelujah: for the Lord our God, the Almighty, reigneth.

³ that then Jehovah thy God will turn thy captivity, and have compassion upon thee, and will return and gather thee from all the peoples, whither Jehovah thy God hath scattered thee.

⁶⁴ The whole assembly together was forty and two thousand three hundred and threescore, ⁶⁵ besides their men-servants and their maid-servants, of whom there were seven thousand three hundred thirty and seven: and they had two hundred singing men and singing women.

¹ Now these are the heads of their fathers' [houses], and this is the genealogy of them that went up with me from Babylon, in the reign of Artaxerxes the king: ² Of the sons of Phinehas, Gershom. Of the sons of Ithamar, Daniel. ¹ Then Eliashib the high priest rose up with his brethren the priests, and they builded the sheep gate; they sanctified it, and set up the doors of it; even unto the tower of Hammeah they sanctified it, unto the tower of Hananel. ² And next unto him builded the men of Jericho. And next to them builded Zaccur the son of Imri.
³ And the fish gate did the sons of Hassenaah build; they laid the beams thereof, and set up the doors thereof, the bolts thereof, and the bars thereof. ⁴ And next unto them repaired Meremoth the son of Uriah, the son of Hakkoz. And next unto them repaired Meshullam the son of Berechiah, the son of Meshezabel. And next unto them repaired Zadok the son of Baana. ⁵ And next unto them the Tekoites repaired; but their nobles put not their necks to the work of their lord.
⁶ And the old gate repaired Joiada the son of Paseah and Meshullam the son of Besodeiah; they laid the beams thereof, and set up the doors thereof, and the bolts thereof, and the bars thereof. ⁷ And next unto them repaired Melatiah the Gibeonite, and Jadon the Meronothite, the men of Gibeon, and of Mizpah, [that appertained] to the throne of the governor beyond the River. ⁸ Next unto him repaired Uzziel the son of Harhaiah, goldsmiths. And next unto him repaired Hananiah one of the perfumers, and they fortified Jerusalem even unto the broad wall. ⁹ And next unto them repaired Rephaiah the son of Hur, the ruler of half the district of Jerusalem. ¹⁰ And next unto them repaired Jedaiah the son of Harumaph, over against his house. And next unto him repaired Hattush the son of Hashabneiah. ¹¹ Malchijah the son of Harim, and Hasshub the son of Pahath-moab, repaired another portion, and the tower of the furnaces. ¹² And next unto him repaired Shallum the son of Hallohesh, the ruler of half the district of Jerusalem, he and his daughters.
¹³ The valley gate repaired Hanun, and the inhabitants of Zanoah; they built it, and set up the doors thereof, the bolts thereof, and the bars thereof, and a thousand cubits of the wall unto the dung gate.
¹⁴ And the dung gate repaired Malchijah the son of Rechab, the ruler of the district of Beth-haccherem; he built it, and set up the doors thereof, the bolts thereof, and the bars thereof.
¹⁵ And the fountain gate repaired Shallun the son of Col-hozeh, the ruler of the district of Mizpah; he built it, and covered it, and set up the doors thereof, the bolts thereof, and the bars thereof, and the wall of the pool of Shelah by the king's garden, even unto the stairs that go down from the city of David. ¹⁶ After him repaired Nehemiah the son of Azbuk, the ruler of half the district of Beth-zur, unto the place over against the sepulchres of David, and unto the pool that was made, and unto the house of the mighty men.

⁴ Now the city was wide and large; but the people were few therein, and the houses were not builded.

¹⁸ Do good in thy good pleasure unto Zion:
Build thou the walls of Jerusalem.

¹³ Thou wilt arise, and have mercy upon Zion;
For it is time to have pity upon her,
Yea, the set time is come. ¹⁴ For thy servants take pleasure in her stones,
And have pity upon her dust. ¹⁵ So the nations shall fear the name of Jehovah,
And all the kings of the earth thy glory. ¹⁶ For Jehovah hath built up Zion;
He hath appeared in his glory.

²⁰ To hear the sighing of the prisoner;
To loose those that are appointed to death; ²¹ That men may declare the name of Jehovah in Zion,
And his praise in Jerusalem; ²² When the peoples are gathered together,
And the kingdoms, to serve Jehovah.

¹¹ And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord will set his hand again the second time to recover the remnant of his people, that shall remain, from Assyria, and from Egypt, and from Pathros, and from Cush, and from Elam, and from Shinar, and from Hamath, and from the islands of the sea. ¹² And he will set up an ensign for the nations, and will assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth.

³² What then shall one answer the messengers of the nation? That Jehovah hath founded Zion, and in her shall the afflicted of his people take refuge.

¹³ And it shall come to pass in that day, that a great trumpet shall be blown; and they shall come that were ready to perish in the land of Assyria, and they that were outcasts in the land of Egypt; and they shall worship Jehovah in the holy mountain at Jerusalem.

⁸ The Lord Jehovah, who gathereth the outcasts of Israel, saith, Yet will I gather [others] to him, besides his own that are gathered.

⁷ and give him no rest, till he establish, and till he make Jerusalem a praise in the earth.

⁴ Again will I build thee, and thou shalt be built, O virgin of Israel: again shalt thou be adorned with thy tabrets, and shalt go forth in the dances of them that make merry.

³⁷ Behold, I will gather them out of all the countries, whither I have driven them in mine anger, and in my wrath, and in great indignation; and I will bring them again unto this place, and I will cause them to dwell safely.

²⁴ For I will take you from among the nations, and gather you out of all the countries, and will bring you into your own land. ²⁵ And I will sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. ²⁶ A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you; and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh. ²⁷ And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep mine ordinances, and do them. ²⁸ And ye shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; and ye shall be my people, and I will be your God. ²⁹ And I will save you from all your uncleannesses: and I will call for the grain, and will multiply it, and lay no famine upon you. ³⁰ And I will multiply the fruit of the tree, and the increase of the field, that ye may receive no more the reproach of famine among the nations. ³¹ Then shall ye remember your evil ways, and your doings that were not good; and ye shall loathe yourselves in your own sight for your iniquities and for your abominations.
³² Nor for your sake do I [this], saith the Lord Jehovah, be it known unto you: be ashamed and confounded for your ways, O house of Israel. ³³ Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: In the day that I cleanse you from all your iniquities, I will cause the cities to be inhabited, and the waste places shall be builded. ³⁴ And the land that was desolate shall be tilled, whereas it was a desolation in the sight of all that passed by. ³⁵ And they shall say, This land that was desolate is become like the garden of Eden; and the waste and desolate and ruined cities are fortified and inhabited. ³⁶ Then the nations that are left round about you shall know that I, Jehovah, have builded the ruined places, and planted that which was desolate: I, Jehovah, have spoken it, and I will do it.
³⁷ Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: For this, moreover, will I be inquired of by the house of Israel, to do it for them: I will increase them with men like a flock. ³⁸ As the flock for sacrifice, as the flock of Jerusalem in her appointed feasts, so shall the waste cities be filled with flocks of men; and they shall know that I am Jehovah.

²¹ And say unto them, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Behold, I will take the children of Israel from among the nations, whither they are gone, and will gather them on every side, and bring them into their own land: ²² and I will make them one nation in the land, upon the mountains of Israel; and one king shall be king to them all; and they shall be no more two nations, neither shall they be divided into two kingdoms any more at all; ²³ neither shall they defile themselves any more with their idols, nor with their detestable things, nor with any of their transgressions; but I will save them out of all their dwelling-places, wherein they have sinned, and will cleanse them: so shall they be my people, and I will be their God.
²⁴ And my servant David shall be king over them; and they all shall have one shepherd: they shall also walk in mine ordinances, and observe my statutes, and do them. ²⁵ And they shall dwell in the land that I have given unto Jacob my servant, wherein your fathers dwelt; and they shall dwell therein, they, and their children, and their children's children, for ever: and David my servant shall be their prince for ever. ²⁶ Moreover I will make a covenant of peace with them; it shall be an everlasting covenant with them; and I will place them, and multiply them, and will set my sanctuary in the midst of them for evermore. ²⁷ My tabernacle also shall be with them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. ²⁸ And the nations shall know that I am Jehovah that sanctifieth Israel, when my sanctuary shall be in the midst of them for evermore.

⁸ After many days thou shalt be visited: in the latter years thou shalt come into the land that is brought back from the sword, that is gathered out of many peoples, upon the mountains of Israel, which have been a continual waste; but it is brought forth out of the peoples, and they shall dwell securely, all of them.

²⁷ when I have brought them back from the peoples, and gathered them out of their enemies' lands, and am sanctified in them in the sight of many nations. ²⁸ And they shall know that I am Jehovah their God, in that I caused them to go into captivity among the nations, and have gathered them unto their own land; and I will leave none of them any more there;

²⁵ Know therefore and discern, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the anointed one, the prince, shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: it shall be built again, with street and moat, even in troublous times.

¹⁸ And I also say unto thee, that thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.

¹² that ye were at that time separate from Christ, alienated from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of the promise, having no hope and without God in the world. ¹³ But now in Christ Jesus ye that once were far off are made nigh in the blood of Christ. ¹⁴ For he is our peace, who made both one, and brake down the middle wall of partition, ¹⁵ having abolished in his flesh the enmity, [even] the law of commandments [contained] in ordinances; that he might create in himself of the two one new man, [so] making peace; ¹⁶ and might reconcile them both in one body unto God through the cross, having slain the enmity thereby: ¹⁷ and he came and preached peace to you that were far off, and peace to them that were nigh: ¹⁸ for through him we both have our access in one Spirit unto the Father. ¹⁹ So then ye are no more strangers and sojourners, but ye are fellow-citizens with the saints, and of the household of God,

¹⁸ For he maketh sore, and bindeth up;
He woundeth, and his hands make whole.

¹⁸ Jehovah is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart,
And saveth such as are of a contrite spirit.

¹⁷ The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit:
A broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.

⁵ Why will ye be still stricken, that ye revolt more and more? the whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint. ⁶ From the sole of the foot even unto the head there is no soundness in it; [but] wounds, and bruises, and fresh stripes: they have not been closed, neither bound up, neither mollified with oil.

¹⁵ For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy: I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite.

¹ The Spirit of the Lord Jehovah is upon me; because Jehovah hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening [of the prison] to them that are bound;

⁶ Behold, I will bring it health and cure, and I will cure them; and I will reveal unto them abundance of peace and truth.

¹⁶ I will seek that which was lost, and will bring back that which was driven away, and will bind up that which was broken, and will strengthen that which was sick: but the fat and the strong I will destroy; I will feed them in justice.

¹ Come, and let us return unto Jehovah; for he hath torn, and he will heal us; he hath smitten, and he will bind us up. ² After two days will he revive us: on the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live before him.

² But unto you that fear my name shall the sun of righteousness arise with healing in its wings; and ye shall go forth, and gambol as calves of the stall.

¹⁸ { The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
Because he anointed me to preach good tidings to the poor:
He hath sent me to proclaim release to the captives,
And recovering of sight to the blind,
To set at liberty them that are bruised,

⁵ And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and number the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.

³ When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers,
The moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;

³ Praise ye him, sun and moon:
Praise him, all ye stars of light.

²⁶ Lift up your eyes on high, and see who hath created these, that bringeth out their host by number; he calleth them all by name; by the greatness of his might, and for that he is strong in power, not one is lacking.

²⁵ For great is Jehovah, and greatly to be praised:
He also is to be feared above all gods.

⁵ Many, O Jehovah my God, are the wonderful works which thou hast done,
And thy thoughts which are to us-ward;
They cannot be set in order unto thee;
If I would declare and speak of them,
They are more than can be numbered.

Great is Jehovah, and greatly to be praised,
In the city of our God, in his holy mountain.

⁴ For great is Jehovah, and greatly to be praised:
He is to be feared above all gods.

² Jehovah is great in Zion;
And he is high above all the peoples.

⁵ For I know that Jehovah is great,
And that our Lord is above all gods.

¹⁷ How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God!
How great is the sum of them! ¹⁸ If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand:
When I awake, I am still with thee.

³ Great is Jehovah, and greatly to be praised;
And his greatness is unsearchable.

²⁸ Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard? The everlasting God, Jehovah, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary; there is no searching of his understanding.

⁶ There is none like unto thee, O Jehovah; thou art great, and thy name is great in might.

¹⁷ Ah Lord Jehovah! behold, thou hast made the heavens and the earth by thy great power and by thine outstretched arm; there is nothing too hard for thee, ¹⁸ who showest lovingkindness unto thousands, and recompensest the iniquity of the fathers into the bosom of their children after them; the great, the mighty God, Jehovah of hosts is his name; ¹⁹ great in counsel, and mighty in work; whose eyes are open upon all the ways of the sons of men, to give every one according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings:

³ Jehovah is slow to anger, and great in power, and will by no means clear [the guilty]: Jehovah hath his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet.

³³ O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and the knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past tracing out!

³ And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying,
Great and marvellous are thy works, O Lord God, the Almighty; righteous and true are thy ways, thou King of the ages.

⁸ He raiseth up the poor out of the dust,
He lifteth up the needy from the dunghill,
To make them sit with princes,
And inherit the throne of glory:
For the pillars of the earth are Jehovah's,
And he hath set the world upon them.

⁹ The meek will he guide in justice;
And the meek will he teach his way.

¹¹ But the meek shall inherit the land,
And shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.

²³ But thou, O God, wilt bring them down into the pit of destruction:
Bloodthirsty and deceitful men shall not live out half their days;
But I will trust in thee.

¹⁸ Surely thou settest them in slippery places:
Thou castest them down to destruction. ¹⁹ How are they become a desolation in a moment!
They are utterly consumed with terrors.

¹⁴ Jehovah upholdeth all that fall,
And raiseth up all those that are bowed down.

⁸ Jehovah openeth [the eyes of] the blind;
Jehovah raiseth up them that are bowed down;
Jehovah loveth the righteous; ⁹ Jehovah preserveth the sojourners;
He upholdeth the fatherless and widow;
But the way of the wicked he turneth upside down.

⁴ For Jehovah taketh pleasure in his people:
He will beautify the meek with salvation.

³ Seek ye Jehovah, all ye meek of the earth, that have kept his ordinances; seek righteousness, seek meekness: it may be ye will be hid in the day of Jehovah's anger.

⁵ Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.

¹⁰ Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall exalt you.

⁴ but [let it be] the hidden man of the heart, in the incorruptible [apparel] of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.

⁶ Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time;

⁴ For if God spared not angels when they sinned, but cast them down to hell, and committed them to pits of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment; ⁵ and spared not the ancient world, but preserved Noah with seven others, a preacher of righteousness, when he brought a flood upon the world of the ungodly; ⁶ and turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, having made them an example unto those that should live ungodly; ⁷ and delivered righteous Lot, sore distressed by the lascivious life of the wicked ⁸ (for that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed [his] righteous soul from day to day with [their] lawless deeds): ⁹ the Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptation, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment unto the day of judgment;

²⁰ And Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a timbrel in her hand; and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dances. ²¹ And Miriam answered them,
Sing ye to Jehovah, for he hath triumphed gloriously;
The horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea.

⁶ Sing praises to God, sing praises:
Sing praises unto our King, sing praises. ⁷ For God is the King of all the earth:
Sing ye praises with understanding.

³² Sing unto God, ye kingdoms of the earth;
Oh sing praises unto the Lord; [Selah

And thy faithfulness every night, ³ With an instrument of ten strings, and with the psaltery;
With a solemn sound upon the harp.

¹ Oh come, let us sing unto Jehovah;
Let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation. ² Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving;
Let us make a joyful noise unto him with psalms.

²¹ Oh that men would praise Jehovah for his lovingkindness,
And for his wonderful works to the children of men! ²² And let them offer the sacrifices of thanksgiving,
And declare his works with singing.

⁸ And when he had taken the book, the four living creatures and the four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having each one a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. ⁹ And they sing a new song, saying,
Worthy art thou to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and didst purchase unto God with thy blood men of every tribe, and tongue, and people, and nation, ¹⁰ and madest them [to be] unto our God a kingdom and priests; and they reign upon the earth.

¹⁴ And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud,

⁴⁴ And it came to pass at the seventh time, that he said, Behold, there ariseth a cloud out of the sea, as small as a man's hand. And he said, Go up, say unto Ahab, Make ready [thy chariot], and get thee down, that the rain stop thee not. ⁴⁵ And it came to pass in a little while, that the heavens grew black with clouds and wind, and there was a great rain. And Ahab rode, and went to Jezreel:

¹⁰ Who giveth rain upon the earth,
And sendeth waters upon the fields;

⁸ He bindeth up the waters in his thick clouds;
And the cloud is not rent under them. ⁹ He incloseth the face of his throne,
And spreadeth his cloud upon it.

²⁷ For he draweth up the drops of water,
Which distil in rain from his vapor, ²⁸ Which the skies pour down
And drop upon man abundantly. ²⁹ Yea, can any understand the spreadings of the clouds,
The thunderings of his pavilion? ³⁰ Behold, he spreadeth his light around him;
And he covereth the bottom of the sea. ³¹ For by these he judgeth the peoples;
He giveth food in abundance. ³² He covereth his hands with the lightning,
And giveth it a charge that it strike the mark. ³³ The noise thereof telleth concerning him,
The cattle also concerning [the storm] that cometh up.

²⁴ By what way is the light parted,
Or the east wind scattered upon the earth?
²⁵ Who hath cleft a channel for the waterflood,
Or the way for the lightning of the thunder; ²⁶ To cause it to rain on a land where no man is;
On the wilderness, wherein there is no man; ²⁷ To satisfy the waste and desolate [ground],
And to cause the tender grass to spring forth?

⁹ Thou visitest the earth, and waterest it,
Thou greatly enrichest it;
The river of God is full of water:
Thou providest them grain, when thou hast so prepared the earth. ¹⁰ Thou waterest its furrows abundantly;
Thou settlest the ridges thereof:
Thou makest it soft with showers;
Thou blessest the springing thereof. ¹¹ Thou crownest the year with thy goodness;
And thy paths drop fatness. ¹² They drop upon the pastures of the wilderness;
And the hills are girded with joy. ¹³ The pastures are clothed with flocks;
The valleys also are covered over with grain;
They shout for joy, they also sing.

¹³ He watereth the mountains from his chambers:
The earth is filled with the fruit of thy works. ¹⁴ He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle,
And herb for the service of man;
That he may bring forth food out of the earth,

¹ Praise ye Jehovah.
Praise ye the name of Jehovah;
Praise [him], O ye servants of Jehovah,

⁶ and I will lay it waste; it shall not be pruned nor hoed; but there shall come up briers and thorns: I will also command the clouds that they rain no rain upon it.

²² Are there any among the vanities of the nations that can cause rain? or can the heavens give showers? art not thou he, O Jehovah our God? therefore we will wait for thee; for thou hast made all these things.

²³ Be glad then, ye children of Zion, and rejoice in Jehovah your God; for he giveth you the former rain in just measure, and he causeth to come down for you the rain, the former rain and the latter rain, in the first [month].

⁷ Ye who turn justice to wormwood, and cast down righteousness to the earth, ⁸ [seek him] that maketh the Pleiades and Orion, and turneth the shadow of death into the morning, and maketh the day dark with night; that calleth for the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth (Jehovah is his name);

⁴⁵ that ye may be sons of your Father who is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sendeth rain on the just and the unjust.

¹⁷ And yet he left not himself without witness, in that he did good and gave you from heaven rains and fruitful seasons, filling your hearts with food and gladness.

¹⁷ Elijah was a man of like passions with us, and he prayed fervently that it might not rain; and it rained not on the earth for three years and six months. ¹⁸ And he prayed again; and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.

⁴¹ Who provideth for the raven his prey,
When his young ones cry unto God,
[And] wander for lack of food?

²⁷ These wait all for thee,
That thou mayest give them their food in due season. ²⁸ Thou givest unto them, they gather;
Thou openest thy hand, they are satisfied with good.

²⁵ Who giveth food to all flesh;
For his lovingkindness [endureth] for ever.

¹⁵ The eyes of all wait for thee;
And thou givest them their food in due season. ¹⁶ Thou openest thy hand,
And satisfiest the desire of every living thing.

²⁶ Behold the birds of the heaven, that they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; and your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are not ye of much more value than they?

²⁴ Consider the ravens, that they sow not, neither reap; which have no store-chamber nor barn; and God feedeth them: of how much more value are ye than the birds!

⁷ But Jehovah said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have rejected him: for [Jehovah seeth] not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but Jehovah looketh on the heart.

²³ Saul and Jonathan were lovely and pleasant in their lives,
And in their death they were not divided:
They were swifter than eagles,
They were stronger than lions.

¹⁸ And the three sons of Zeruiah were there, Joab, and Abishai, and Asahel: and Asahel was as light of foot as a wild roe. ¹⁹ And Asahel pursued after Abner; and in going he turned not to the right hand nor to the left from following Abner. ²⁰ Then Abner looked behind him, and said, Is it thou, Asahel? And he answered, It is I. ²¹ And Abner said to him, Turn thee aside to thy right hand or to thy left, and lay thee hold on one of the young men, and take thee his armor. But Asahel would not turn aside from following him. ²² And Abner said again to Asahel, Turn thee aside from following me: wherefore should I smite thee to the ground? how then should I hold up my face to Joab thy brother? ²³ Howbeit he refused to turn aside: wherefore Abner with the hinder end of the spear smote him in the body, so that the spear came out behind him; and he fell down there, and died in the same place: and it came to pass, that as many as came to the place where Asahel fell down and died stood still.

¹⁹ Hast thou given the horse [his] might?
Hast thou clothed his neck with the quivering mane? ²⁰ Hast thou made him to leap as a locust?
The glory of his snorting is terrible. ²¹ He paweth in the valley, and rejoiceth in his strength:
He goeth out to meet the armed men. ²² He mocketh at fear, and is not dismayed;
Neither turneth he back from the sword. ²³ The quiver rattleth against him,
The flashing spear and the javelin. ²⁴ He swalloweth the ground with fierceness and rage;
Neither believeth he that it is the voice of the trumpet. ²⁵ As oft as the trumpet [soundeth] he saith, Aha!
And he smelleth the battle afar off,
The thunder of the captains, and the shouting.

⁷ Some [trust] in chariots, and some in horses;
But we will make mention of the name of Jehovah our God.

¹⁶ There is no king saved by the multitude of a host:
A mighty man is not delivered by great strength. ¹⁷ A horse is a vain thing for safety;
Neither doth he deliver any by his great power. ¹⁸ Behold, the eye of Jehovah is upon them that fear him,
Upon them that hope in his lovingkindness;

³¹ The horse is prepared against the day of battle;
But victory is of Jehovah.

¹¹ I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favor to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.

¹ Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help, and rely on horses, and trust in chariots because they are many, and in horsemen because they are very strong, but they look not unto the Holy One of Israel, neither seek Jehovah!

⁷ But I will have mercy upon the house of Judah, and will save them by Jehovah their God, and will not save them by bow, nor by sword, nor by battle, by horses, nor by horsemen.

¹⁸ Behold, the eye of Jehovah is upon them that fear him,
Upon them that hope in his lovingkindness;

²² Let thy lovingkindness, O Jehovah, be upon us,
According as we have hoped in thee.

²⁷ Let them shout for joy, and be glad, that favor my righteous cause:
Yea, let them say continually, Jehovah be magnified,
Who hath pleasure in the prosperity of his servant.

²⁰ They that are perverse in heart are an abomination to Jehovah;
But such as are perfect in [their] way are his delight.

³⁰ Grace is deceitful, and beauty is vain;
[But] a woman that feareth Jehovah, she shall be praised.

⁴ Thou shalt no more be termed Forsaken; neither shall thy land any more be termed Desolate: but thou shalt be called Hephzi-bah, and thy land Beulah; for Jehovah delighteth in thee, and thy land shall be married.

¹⁷ Jehovah thy God is in the midst of thee, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love; he will joy over thee with singing.

¹⁶ Then they that feared Jehovah spake one with another; and Jehovah hearkened, and heard, and a book of remembrance was written before him, for them that feared Jehovah, and that thought upon his name. ¹⁷ And they shall be mine, saith Jehovah of hosts, [even] mine own possession, in the day that I make; and I will spare them, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him.

¹³ Wherefore girding up the loins of your mind, be sober and set your hope perfectly on the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;

¹⁷ And if ye call on him as Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to each man's work, pass the time of your sojourning in fear:

¹⁹ O house of Israel, bless ye Jehovah:
O house of Aaron, bless ye Jehovah: ²⁰ O house of Levi, bless ye Jehovah:
Ye that fear Jehovah, bless ye Jehovah. ²¹ Blessed be Jehovah out of Zion,
Who dwelleth at Jerusalem.
Praise ye Jehovah.

¹⁰ Jehovah will reign for ever,
Thy God, O Zion, unto all generations.
Praise ye Jehovah.

² Let Israel rejoice in him that made him:
Let the children of Zion be joyful in their King.

⁶ Cry aloud and shout, thou inhabitant of Zion; for great in the midst of thee is the Holy One of Israel.

⁷ How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace, that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation, that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth!

¹ Now it came to pass, when it was reported to Sanballat and Tobiah, and to Geshem the Arabian, and unto the rest of our enemies, that I had builded the wall, and that there was no breach left therein (though even unto that time I had not set up the doors in the gates),

¹ Now it came to pass, when the wall was built, and I had set up the doors, and the porters and the singers and the Levites were appointed,

³ And I said unto them, Let not the gates of Jerusalem be opened until the sun be hot; and while they stand [on guard], let them shut the doors, and bar ye them: and appoint watches of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, every one in his watch, and every one [to be] over against his house.

³⁰ And the priests and the Levites purified themselves; and they purified the people, and the gates, and the wall.

¹¹ Let mount Zion be glad,
Let the daughters of Judah rejoice,
Because of thy judgments. ¹² Walk about Zion, and go round about her;
Number the towers thereof; ¹³ Mark ye well her bulwarks;
Consider her palaces:
That ye may tell it to the generation following. ¹⁴ For this God is our God for ever and ever:
He will be our guide [even] unto death.

¹⁴ Jehovah increase you more and more,
You and your children. ¹⁵ Blessed are ye of Jehovah,
Who made heaven and earth.

² As the mountains are round about Jerusalem,
So Jehovah is round about his people
From this time forth and for evermore.

³ Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine,
In the innermost parts of thy house;
Thy children like olive plants,
Round about thy table. ⁴ Behold, thus shall the man be blessed That feareth Jehovah. ⁵ Jehovah bless thee out of Zion:
And see thou the good of Jerusalem all the days of thy life. ⁶ Yea, see thou thy children's children.
Peace be upon Israel.

¹² When our sons shall be as plants grown up in their youth,
And our daughters as corner-stones hewn after the fashion of a palace;

³ For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and streams upon the dry ground; I will pour my Spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring: ⁴ and they shall spring up among the grass, as willows by the watercourses. ⁵ One shall say, I am Jehovah's; and another shall call [himself] by the name of Jacob; and another shall subscribe with his hand unto Jehovah, and surname [himself] by the name of Israel.

¹⁹ And out of them shall proceed thanksgiving and the voice of them that make merry: and I will multiply them, and they shall not be few; I will also glorify them, and they shall not be small. ²⁰ Their children also shall be as aforetime, and their congregation shall be established before me; and I will punish all that oppress them.

⁸ Jehovah hath purposed to destroy the wall of the daughter of Zion;
He hath stretched out the line, he hath not withdrawn his hand from destroying;
And he hath made the rampart and wall to lament; they languish together. ⁹ Her gates are sunk into the ground; he hath destroyed and broken her bars:
Her king and her princes are among the nations where the law is not;
Yea, her prophets find no vision from Jehovah.

¹² The kings of the earth believed not, neither all the inhabitants of the world,
That the adversary and the enemy would enter into the gates of Jerusalem.

³ Thus saith Jehovah: I am returned unto Zion, and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem: and Jerusalem shall be called The city of truth; and the mountain of Jehovah of hosts, The holy mountain. ⁴ Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: There shall yet old men and old women dwell in the streets of Jerusalem, every man with his staff in his hand for very age. ⁵ And the streets of the city shall be full of boys and girls playing in the streets thereof.

⁴² saying, { If thou hadst known in this day, even thou, the things which belong unto peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes. ⁴³ For the days shall come upon thee, when thine enemies shall cast up a bank about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side, ⁴⁴ and shall dash thee to the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation.}

⁶ And I will give peace in the land, and ye shall lie down, and none shall make you afraid: and I will cause evil beasts to cease out of the land, neither shall the sword go through your land.

⁷ For Jehovah thy God bringeth thee into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and springs, flowing forth in valleys and hills; ⁸ a land of wheat and barley, and vines and fig-trees and pomegranates; a land of olive-trees and honey;

¹⁴ Butter of the herd, and milk of the flock,
With fat of lambs,
And rams of the breed of Bashan, and goats,
With the finest of the wheat;
And of the blood of the grape thou drankest wine.

⁹ Behold, a son shall be born to thee, who shall be a man of rest; and I will give him rest from all his enemies round about; for his name shall be Solomon, and I will give peace and quietness unto Israel in his days.

¹¹ Jehovah will give strength unto his people;
Jehovah will bless his people with peace.

¹⁶ He would feed them also with the finest of the wheat;
And with honey out of the rock would I satisfy thee.

⁶ Pray for the peace of Jerusalem:
They shall prosper that love thee.

¹¹ Jehovah hath sworn unto David in truth;
He will not turn from it:
Of the fruit of thy body will I set upon thy throne.

¹⁵ I will abundantly bless her provision:
I will satisfy her poor with bread.

⁶ For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. ⁷ Of the increase of his government and of peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to establish it, and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of Jehovah of hosts will perform this.

¹⁷ For brass I will bring gold, and for iron I will bring silver, and for wood brass, and for stones iron. I will also make thy officers peace, and thine exactors righteousness. ¹⁸ Violence shall no more be heard in thy land, desolation nor destruction within thy borders; but thou shalt call thy walls Salvation, and thy gates Praise.

¹² For thus saith Jehovah, Behold, I will extend peace to her like a river, and the glory of the nations like an overflowing stream: and ye shall suck [thereof]; ye shall be borne upon the side, and shall be dandled upon the knees.

¹⁷ Judah, and the land of Israel, they were thy traffickers: they traded for thy merchandise wheat of Minnith, and pannag, and honey, and oil, and balm.

⁸ And I will encamp about my house against the army, that none pass through or return; and no oppressor shall pass through them any more: for now have I seen with mine eyes.

²⁹ When he giveth quietness, who then can condemn?
And when he hideth his face, who then can behold him?
Alike whether [it be done] unto a nation, or unto a man:

¹² And it is turned round about by his guidance,
That they may do whatsoever he commandeth them
Upon the face of the habitable world,

⁹ For he spake, and it was done;
He commanded, and it stood fast.

¹¹ The Lord giveth the word:
The women that publish the tidings are a great host.

²⁰ He sendeth his word, and healeth them,
And delivereth [them] from their destructions.

²⁵ For he commandeth, and raiseth the stormy wind,
Which lifteth up the waves thereof.

⁴ But Jehovah sent out a great wind upon the sea, and there was a mighty tempest on the sea, so that the ship was like to be broken.

⁸ And the centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof; but only say the word, and my servant shall be healed. ⁹ For I also am a man under authority, having under myself soldiers: and I say to this one, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.

¹³ And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; as thou hast believed, [so] be it done unto thee. And the servant was healed in that hour.

¹ Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may run and be glorified, even as also [it is] with you;

⁶ For he saith to the snow, Fall thou on the earth;
Likewise to the shower of rain,
And to the showers of his mighty rain.

⁹ Out of the chamber [of the south] cometh the storm,
And cold out of the north. ¹⁰ By the breath of God ice is given;
And the breadth of the waters is straitened.

²⁹ Out of whose womb came the ice?
And the hoary frost of heaven, who hath gendered it?

⁸ Fire and hail, snow and vapor;
Stormy wind, fulfilling his word;

¹⁰ For as the rain cometh down and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, and giveth seed to the sower and bread to the eater;

²³ And Moses stretched forth his rod toward heaven: and Jehovah sent thunder and hail, and fire ran down unto the earth; and Jehovah rained hail upon the land of Egypt. ²⁴ So there was hail, and fire mingled with the hail, very grievous, such as had not been in all the land of Egypt since it became a nation. ²⁵ And the hail smote throughout all the land of Egypt all that was in the field, both man and beast; and the hail smote every herb of the field, and brake every tree of the field.

¹¹ And it came to pass, as they fled from before Israel, while they were at the descent of Beth-horon, that Jehovah cast down great stones from heaven upon them unto Azekah, and they died: they were more who died with the hailstones than they whom the children of Israel slew with the sword.

²² Hast thou entered the treasuries of the snow,
Or hast thou seen the treasures of the hail, ²³ Which I have reserved against the time of trouble,
Against the day of battle and war?

²⁹ Out of whose womb came the ice?
And the hoary frost of heaven, who hath gendered it? ³⁰ The waters hide themselves [and become] like stone,
And the face of the deep is frozen.

⁴⁷ He destroyed their vines with hail,
And their sycomore-trees with frost. ⁴⁸ He gave over their cattle also to the hail,
And their flocks to hot thunderbolts.

¹⁶ Which are black by reason of the ice,
[And] wherein the snow hideth itself: ¹⁷ What time they wax warm, they vanish;
When it is hot, they are consumed out of their place.

¹⁰ By the breath of God ice is given;
And the breadth of the waters is straitened.

¹⁷ How thy garments are warm,
When the earth is still by reason of the south [wind]?

¹⁵ He sendeth out his commandment upon earth;
His word runneth very swiftly.

¹ And God spake all these words, saying,
² I am Jehovah thy God, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
³ Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
⁴ Thou shalt not make unto thee a graven image, nor any likeness [of any thing] that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: ⁵ thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them; for I Jehovah thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, upon the third and upon the fourth generation of them that hate me, ⁶ and showing lovingkindness unto thousands of them that love me and keep my commandments.
⁷ Thou shalt not take the name of Jehovah thy God in vain; for Jehovah will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
⁸ Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. ⁹ Six days shalt thou labor, and do all thy work; ¹⁰ but the seventh day is a sabbath unto Jehovah thy God: [in it] thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy man-servant, nor thy maid-servant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: ¹¹ for in six days Jehovah made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore Jehovah blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
¹² Honor thy father and thy mother, that thy days may be long in the land which Jehovah thy God giveth thee.
¹³ Thou shalt not kill.
¹⁴ Thou shalt not commit adultery.
¹⁵ Thou shalt not steal.
¹⁶ Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.
¹⁷ Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife, nor his man-servant, nor his maid-servant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor anything that is thy neighbor's.
¹⁸ And all the people perceived the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the voice of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and when the people saw it, they trembled, and stood afar off. ¹⁹ And they said unto Moses, Speak thou with us, and we will hear; but let not God speak with us, lest we die. ²⁰ And Moses said unto the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before you, that ye sin not. ²¹ And the people stood afar off, and Moses drew near unto the thick darkness where God was.

¹ Now these are the ordinances which thou shalt set before them.
² If thou buy a Hebrew servant, six years he shall serve: and in the seventh he shall go out free for nothing. ³ If he come in by himself, he shall go out by himself: if he be married, then his wife shall go out with him. ⁴ If his master give him a wife and she bear him sons or daughters; the wife and her children shall be her master's, and he shall go out by himself. ⁵ But if the servant shall plainly say, I love my master, my wife, and my children; I will not go out free: ⁶ then his master shall bring him unto God, and shall bring him to the door, or unto the door-post; and his master shall bore his ear through with an awl; and he shall serve him for ever. ⁷ And if a man sell his daughter to be a maid-servant, she shall not go out as the men-servants do. ⁸ If she please not her master, who hath espoused her to himself, then shall he let her be redeemed: to sell her unto a foreign people he shall have no power, seeing he hath dealt deceitfully with her. ⁹ And if he espouse her unto his son, he shall deal with her after the manner of daughters. ¹⁰ If he take him another [wife]; her food, her raiment, and her duty of marriage, shall he not diminish. ¹¹ And if he do not these three things unto her, then shall she go out for nothing, without money.
¹² He that smiteth a man, so that he dieth, shall surely be put to death. ¹³ And if a man lie not in wait, but God deliver [him] into his hand; then I will appoint thee a place whither he shall flee. ¹⁴ And if a man come presumptuously upon his neighbor, to slay him with guile; thou shalt take him from mine altar, that he may die.
¹⁵ And he that smiteth his father, or his mother, shall be surely put to death.
¹⁶ And he that stealeth a man, and selleth him, or if he be found in his hand, he shall surely be put to death.
¹⁷ And he that curseth his father or his mother, shall surely be put to death.
¹⁸ And if men contend, and one smite the other with a stone, or with his fist, and he die not, but keep his bed; ¹⁹ if he rise again, and walk abroad upon his staff, then shall he that smote him be quit: only he shall pay for the loss of his time, and shall cause him to be thoroughly healed.
²⁰ And if a man smite his servant, or his maid, with a rod, and he die under his hand; he shall surely be punished. ²¹ Notwithstanding, if he continue a day or two, he shall not be punished: for he is his money.
²² And if men strive together, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart, and yet no harm follow; he shall be surely fined, according as the woman's husband shall lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine. ²³ But if any harm follow, then thou shalt give life for life,

¹ And now, O Israel, hearken unto the statutes and unto the ordinances, which I teach you, to do them; that ye may live, and go in and possess the land which Jehovah, the God of your fathers, giveth you.

⁸ And what great nation is there, that hath statutes and ordinances so righteous as all this law, which I set before you this day?

¹² And Jehovah spake unto you out of the midst of the fire: ye heard the voice of words, but ye saw no form; only [ye heard] a voice. ¹³ And he declared unto you his covenant, which he commanded you to perform, even the ten commandments; and he wrote them upon two tables of stone.

⁴⁵ these are the testimonies, and the statutes, and the ordinances, which Moses spake unto the children of Israel, when they came forth out of Egypt,

²² These words Jehovah spake unto all your assembly in the mount out of the midst of the fire, of the cloud, and of the thick darkness, with a great voice: and he added no more. And he wrote them upon two tables of stone, and gave them unto me.

³¹ But as for thee, stand thou here by me, and I will speak unto thee all the commandment, and the statutes, and the ordinances, which thou shalt teach them, that they may do them in the land which I give them to possess it.

¹ Now this is the commandment, the statutes, and the ordinances, which Jehovah your God commanded to teach you, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go over to possess it;

² And he said,
Jehovah came from Sinai,
And rose from Seir unto them;
He shined forth from mount Paran,
And he came from the ten thousands of holy ones:
At his right hand was a fiery law for them. ³ Yea, he loveth the people;
All his saints are in thy hand:
And they sat down at thy feet;
[Every one] shall receive of thy words. ⁴ Moses commanded us a law,
An inheritance for the assembly of Jacob.

In Judah is God known:
His name is great in Israel.

⁵ For he established a testimony in Jacob,
And appointed a law in Israel,
Which he commanded our fathers,
That they should make them known to their children;

⁷ He made known his ways unto Moses,
His doings unto the children of Israel.

⁴ Remember ye the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb for all Israel, even statutes and ordinances.

² Much every way: first of all, that they were intrusted with the oracles of God.

⁴ who are Israelites; whose is the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service [of God], and the promises;

¹⁵ and that from a babe thou hast known the sacred writings which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. ¹⁶ Every scripture inspired of God [is] also profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for instruction which is in righteousness: ¹⁷ that the man of God may be complete, furnished completely unto every good work.

⁷ For what great nation is there, that hath a god so nigh unto them, as Jehovah our God is whensoever we call upon him? ⁸ And what great nation is there, that hath statutes and ordinances so righteous as all this law, which I set before you this day?

³² For ask now of the days that are past, which were before thee, since the day that God created man upon the earth, and from the one end of heaven unto the other, whether there hath been [any such thing] as this great thing is, or hath been heard like it? ³³ Did ever a people hear the voice of God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as thou hast heard, and live? ³⁴ Or hath God assayed to go and take him a nation from the midst of [another] nation, by trials, by signs, and by wonders, and by war, and by a mighty hand, and by an outstretched arm, and by great terrors, according to all that Jehovah your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes?

¹⁸ Where there is no vision, the people cast off restraint;
But he that keepeth the law, happy is he.

¹ Let me sing for my wellbeloved a song of my beloved touching his vineyard. My wellbeloved had a vineyard in a very fruitful hill: ² and he digged it, and gathered out the stones thereof, and planted it with the choicest vine, and built a tower in the midst of it, and also hewed out a winepress therein: and he looked that it should bring forth grapes, and it brought forth wild grapes.
³ And now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem and men of Judah, judge, I pray you, betwixt me and my vineyard. ⁴ What could have been done more to my vineyard, that I have not done in it? wherefore, when I looked that it should bring forth grapes, brought it forth wild grapes? ⁵ And now I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard: I will take away the hedge thereof, and it shall be eaten up; I will break down the wall thereof, and it shall be trodden down: ⁶ and I will lay it waste; it shall not be pruned nor hoed; but there shall come up briers and thorns: I will also command the clouds that they rain no rain upon it. ⁷ For the vineyard of Jehovah of hosts is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah his pleasant plant: and he looked for justice, but, behold, oppression; for righteousness, but, behold, a cry.

³³ Hear another parable: There was a man that was a householder, who planted a vineyard, and set a hedge about it, and digged a winepress in it, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into another country. ³⁴ And when the season of the fruits drew near, he sent his servants to the husbandmen, to receive his fruits. ³⁵ And the husbandmen took his servants, and beat one, and killed another, and stoned another. ³⁶ Again, he sent other servants more than the first: and they did unto them in like manner. ³⁷ But afterward he sent unto them his son, saying, They will reverence my son. ³⁸ But the husbandmen, when they saw the son, said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and take his inheritance. ³⁹ And they took him, and cast him forth out of the vineyard, and killed him. ⁴⁰ When therefore the lord of the vineyard shall come, what will he do unto those husbandmen?} ⁴¹ They say unto him, He will miserably destroy those miserable men, and will let out the vineyard unto other husbandmen, who shall render him the fruits in their seasons.

¹⁸ to open their eyes, that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive remission of sins and an inheritance among them that are sanctified by faith in me.}

²⁷ King Agrippa, believest thou the prophets? I know that thou believest.

¹ What advantage then hath the Jew? or what is the profit of circumcision? ² Much every way: first of all, that they were intrusted with the oracles of God.

¹² that ye were at that time separate from Christ, alienated from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of the promise, having no hope and without God in the world.

⁸ for ye were once darkness, but are now light in the Lord: walk as children of light

⁹ But ye are an elect race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for [God's] own possession, that ye may show forth the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: ¹⁰ who in time past were no people, but now are the people of God: who had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
