⁷ What man ever serves as a soldier, at his own expense? Who plants a vineyard, and eats not of its fruit? Or who tends a flock, and eats not of the milk of the flock?

¹⁵ When, therefore, they had taken breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter: Simon, son of Jonah, Do you love me more than these? He said to him: Yes, Lord, thou knowest that I love thee. He said to him: Feed my lambs. ¹⁶ He said to him again a second time: Simon, son of Jonah, do you love me? He said to him: Yes, Lord, thou knowest that I love thee. He said to him: Be a shepherd to my sheep. ¹⁷ He said to him a third time: Simon, son of Jonah, do you love me? Peter was grieved because he said to him the third time, Do you love me? And he said to him: Lord, thou knowest all things, thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus said to him: Feed my sheep.

²⁸ Therefore, take heed to yourselves, and to all the flock over which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, that you be shepherds to the church of God, which he has purchased with his own blood.

⁶ I planted, Apollos watered: but God made to grow. ⁷ So, neither he that plants nor he that waters is any thing: but God that makes to grow. ⁸ But he that plants and he that waters are one; and each one shall receive his own reward, according to his own labor.

⁴ (for the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty, through God, for the overthrowing of strongholds,) ⁵ overthrowing reasonings and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and leading captive every thought to the obedience of the Christ,

¹⁸ This charge I commit to you, son Timothy, in accordance with the preceding prophecies concerning you, that by them you may war the good warfare,

¹² Fight the good fight of the faith; lay hold on eternal life, to which you have been called, and for which you confessed the good confession before many witnesses.

³ Do you, there fore, suffer evil, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. ⁴ Every one that serves as a soldier keeps himself free from the business of this life, that he may please him that has chosen him to be a soldier.

⁷ I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith:

² Act as shepherds to the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight, not by compulsion, but willingly; not for the sake of sordid gain, but from readiness of mind:
