¹ But, we beseech you, brethren, concerning the coming of; our Lord Jesus Christ, and our coming together to him, ² that you be not hastily shaken from the persuasion of your mind, nor be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by report, nor by letter as written by us, as though the day of the Lord is at hand. ³ Let no one deceive you by any means; for that day will not come, unless the apostasy come first, and the man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition, ⁴ who opposes and exalts himself above every one that is called God, or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, openly showing him self that he is God. ⁵ Do you not remember that, while I was with you, I told you these things? ⁶ And now you know what restrains, in order that he may be revealed in his own proper time. ⁷ For the mystery of iniquity is already at work; only he that now restrains will restrain, till he be taken out of the way: ⁸ and then shall that lawless one be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will destroy by the spirit of his mouth, and will utterly over throw by the brightness of his coming: ⁹ he will destroy him, whose coming is, according to the energy of Satan, with all power and signs and wonders of falsehood, ¹⁰ and with all the delusion of unrighteousness in those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, in order that they might be saved. ¹¹ And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, in order that they may believe a lie, ¹² that all may be condemned who believe not the truth, but have pleasure in unrighteousness. ¹³ But we are bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren, beloved of the Lord, because God did, from the beginning, choose you to salvation, by sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth, ¹⁴ "to which he called you by our gospel, in order that you might obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. ¹⁵ Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which you have been taught, whether by word or by our letter. ¹⁶ Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, who has loved us, and given us eternal consolation and good hope through grace, ¹⁷ comfort your hearts, and strengthen you in every good word and work.

⁸ But God makes known his love to us in this, that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us:

³³ "Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifies.

¹¹ (the children, indeed, having not yet been born, and having done neither good nor evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calls,)

¹ Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they may be saved.

⁵ Thus, then, at the present time also, there is a remnant according to the election of grace. ⁶ And if the election is by grace, it is no longer by works; otherwise grace is no longer grace.

¹ I beseech you, therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.

⁹ Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good;

¹³ Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in the hope, by the power of the Holy Spirit. PAET IV. Conclusion.

¹⁷ Now I beseech you, brethren, to mark those who make divisions and cause offenses in opposition to the teaching which you have learned, and avoid them. ¹⁸ For such serve not our Lord Christ, but their own appetites; and, by good words and fair speeches, they deceive the hearts of the simple.

²⁵ Now to him who is able to strengthen you according to my gospel, even the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery which was concealed during the times of the ages,

⁸ He also will establish you even to the end, and make you blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.

¹⁸ For the preaching of the cross is to those who perish, foolishness; but to us who are saved, it is the power of God.

⁹ Know you not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived; neither lewd persons, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor catamites, nor sodomites,

⁵ For though there are those which are called gods, whether in heaven or on earth, (as there are many gods, and many lords,)

³ Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort, ⁴ who con soles us in all our afflictions, so that we are able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. ⁵ For as the sufferings for the Christ abound in us, so also through Christ abounds our consolation. ⁶ And if we are afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which salvation is effected by your patient endurance of the same sufferings that we also suffer; (and our hope in you is steadfast;) or if we are consoled, it is for your comfort and salvation;

²¹ For he who establishes us with you in Christ, and has anointed us, is God,

¹⁷ For we do not, as the many, adulterate the word of God; but, as from sincerity, but, as from God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ.
