⁷⁰ Jesus answered them: Have I not chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil?

¹ And he called to him his twelve disciples, and gave them authority over unclean spirits, so that they might cast them out, and care every disease and every infirmity. ² Now these are the names of the twelve apostles: the first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother; ³ Philip and Bartholomew, Thomas, and Matthew the publican; James the son of Alphseus, and Lebbceus, who was surnamed Thaddaeus; ⁴ Simon the Canaanite, and Judas Iscariot, who also delivered him up.

¹³ And when it was day, he called to him his disciples; and from them he chose twelve, whom he also named apostles: ¹⁴ Simon, whom he also named Peter, and Andrew his brother, James and John, Philip and Bartholomew, ¹⁵ Matthew and Thomas, James the son of Alphreus, and Simon who is called Zelotes, ¹⁶ Judas the brother of James, and Judas Iscariot, who was also the traitor.

⁶⁴ But there are some among you who believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who he was that would betray him.

⁴⁴ You are of your father, the devil; and the desires of your father you will do. He was a murderer from the be ginning, and stood not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks that which is false, he speaks from what is his own; for he is a liar, and the father of it.

² And supper being over, the devil having already put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon, to deliver him up,

¹⁸ I speak not of you all. I know whom I have chosen: but that the scripture may be fulfilled, He that eats bread with me has lifted up his heel against me.

²¹ When Jesus had spoken these things, he was troubled in spirit, and testified and said: Verily, verily I say to you, that one of you will deliver me up.

²⁷ And after the morsel was given, then Satan entered into him. Then Jesus said to him: What you do, do quickly.

¹⁶ You have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and appointed you, that you may go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit may remain; that whatever you ask of the Father in my name, he may give you.

¹⁹ If you were of the world, the world would love its own. But because you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.

¹² While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name. Those whom thou gavest me, I have kept; and none of them is lost but the son of perdition, that the scripture may be fulfilled.

¹⁷ for he was numbered with us, and had been appointed to this ministry.

¹⁰ said: full of all deceit and all wickedness, child of the devil, enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?

¹¹ Their wives likewise must be grave, not slanderers, watchful, faithful in all things.

³ that the aged women likewise be, in deportment, as it becomes holy women, not slanderers, not enslaved to much wine, teachers of good things,

⁸ He that works sin is of the devil, for the devil sins from the beginning: for this purpose was the son of God manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. ⁹ Behold, I will make those who are of the synagogue of Satan, who say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them come and worship before your feet, and know that I have loved you. ¹⁰ Because you have kept the word of my patience, I also will keep you from the hour of trial that is about to come on the whole world, to try those who dwell on the earth.
