¹ And there were present, at that time, some that told him of the Galileans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. ² And Jesus answered and said to them: Do you think that those Galileans were greater sinners than all other Galileans, because they suffered such things? ³ I tell you, No; but unless you repent, you shall all likewise perish. ⁴ Or, those eighteen, on whom the tower in Siloam fell, and killed them; do you think that they were greater debtors than all other men that were living in Jerusalem? ⁵ I tell you, No; but unless you repent, you shall all likewise perish. ⁶ And he spoke this parable: A certain man had a fig-tree that was planted in his vineyard; and he came and sought fruit on it, and found none. ⁷ Then he said to his vine-dresser, Behold, for three years I have come and sought fruit on this fig-tree, and I have found none; cut it down; why does it occupy the ground unprofitably? ⁸ But he answered and said to him, Sir, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and throw in manure; ⁹ and it may bear fruit; but if not, after ward you shall cut it down. ¹⁰ And he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath. ¹¹ And, behold, there was a woman who had had a spirit of infirmity for eighteen years; and she was bowed together, and was not able to raise herself up at all. ¹² And when Jesus saw her, he called her to him, and said to her: Woman, you are released from your infirmity. ¹³ And he laid his hands on her; and she immediately stood erect, and glorified God. ¹⁴ But the ruler of the synagogue, indignant because Jesus had performed a cure on the sabbath-day, answered and said to the multitude: There are six days in which work ought to be done; on these, therefore, come and be cured, and not on the sabbath-day. Then the Lord answered him and said: ¹⁵ Hypocrites, does not each one of you, on the sabbath, loose his ox or his ass from the stable, and lead him away, and give him water? ¹⁶ And ought not this woman, who is a daughter of Abra ham, whom Satan has bound, lo, these eighteen years, to be loosed from this bond on the sabbath-day? ¹⁷ And when he had said these things, all his adversaries were ashamed; and all the multitude rejoiced on account of all the glorious things that were done by him. ¹⁸ Then he said: To what is the kingdom of God like; and to what shall I liken it? ¹⁹ It is like a grain of mustard, which a man took, and sowed in his garden; and it grew, and became a great tree; and the birds of the air roosted in its branches. ²⁰ And again he said: To what shall I liken the kingdom of God? ²¹ It is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of flour, till the whole was leavened. ²² And he went through every city and village, teaching, and journeying to Jerusalem. ²³ And a certain man said to him: Lord, are there few that are saved? And he said to them: ²⁴ Strive to enter in through the strait gate; for many, I say to you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able. ²⁵ When once the master of the house has risen, and closed the door, and you begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open for us, and he shall answer and say to you, I know you not, whence you are; ²⁶ then, you will begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets. ²⁷ And he shall say, I tell you, I know you not, whence you are; depart from me, all you workers of iniquity. ²⁸ There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, but your selves cast out. ²⁹ And they shall come from the east and the west, and from the north and the south, and shall recline at table in the kingdom of God. ³⁰ And behold, there are last that shall be first, and there arc first that shall be last. ³¹ On the same day, certain Pharisees came and said to him: Depart, and get away from this place; for Herod intends to kill you. ³² And he said to them: Go and toll that fox, Be hold, I cast out demons, and perform cures to-day and to-morrow, and the third day I finish the work. ³³ But I must continue my journey to-day and to-morrow and the day following; for it is not possible that a prophet perish out of Jerusalem. ³⁴ Jerusalem, Jerusalem, that killest the prophets and stonest them that are sent to thee: how often have I desired to gather thy children together, as a bird gathers her young under her wings, and you refused. ³⁵ Behold, your house is deserted; and I say to you, You shall not see me till the time come when you shall say, Blessed is he that comes in the name of the Lord.

² And they bound him and led him away, and delivered him to Pontius Pilate the governor.

³⁷ After this man, Judas the Galilean arose, in the days of the enrollment, and drew over many people after him; and he was destroyed, and all, as many as believed him, were scattered.

¹⁷ For the time has come that judgment must begin at the house of God; and if it begin first at us, what shall be the end of those who obey not the gospel of God? ¹⁸ And if the righteous man is hardly saved, where shall the ungodly man and the sinner appear?

⁴ Or, those eighteen, on whom the tower in Siloam fell, and killed them; do you think that they were greater debtors than all other men that were living in Jerusalem?

² And his disciples asked him, saying: Rabbi, who sinned, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?

⁴ And when the barbarians saw the reptile hanging from his hand, they said to one an other: This man is certainly a murderer, whom, although he has saved himself from the sea, justice does not permit to live.

² and saying: Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

¹⁰ Even now the ax is lying at the root of the trees: therefore, every tree that does not bring forth good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. ¹¹ I immerse you in water, in order to repentance; but he that comes after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will immerse you in the Holy Spirit and in fire: ¹² whose winnowing-shovel is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his thrashing-floor, and gather his grain into his granary; but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire.

⁴⁵ Then he goes and takes with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself; and they enter in and dwell there. And the last state of that man is worse than the first. So shall it be with this wicked generation.

⁷ And when that king heard of it, he was angry, and sent his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city.

³⁵ that upon you may come all the righteous blood which has been shed upon the earth, from the blood of Abel the just to the blood of Zachariah, the son of Barachiah, whom you slew between the temple and the altar. ³⁶ Verily I say to you, All these things shall come upon this generation. ³⁷ Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets and stonest those who are sent to thee, how often have I desired to gather thy children together, as a bird gathers her young under her wings, and you refused. ³⁸ Behold, your house is left to you deserted.

²¹ for then shall be great affliction, such as has not been from the beginning of the world till now, nor shall ever be. ²² And unless those days should be made few, no flesh could be saved. But on account of the elect those days shall be made few. ²³ Then if any one shall say to you: Lo! here is the Christ, or there; believe it not. ²⁴ For false Christs and false prophets will arise, and will show great signs and wonders, so as to deceive, if possible, even the elect. ²⁵ Behold, I have told you beforehand. ²⁶ Therefore, if they say to you: Behold, he is in the desert; go not out: Behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not. ²⁷ For as the lightning comes out from the east, and shines even to the west, so also shall the coming of the Son of man be. ²⁸ For wherever the carcass is, there will the vultures come together. ²⁹ Immediately after the affliction of those days, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the hosts of the heavens shall be shaken.

⁵ I tell you, No; but unless you repent, you shall all likewise perish.

⁴² saying: Hadst thou known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which were for thy peace! But now, they are hid from thy eyes. ⁴³ For the days will come upon thee, when thy enemies will throw up a mound about thee, and inclose thee around, and keep thee in on every side, ⁴⁴ and will destroy thee and thy children within thee, and will not leave in thee one stone upon another, because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation.

²² For these are the days of vengeance, that all things that are written may be fulfilled. ²³ But alas for them that are with child, and for them that give suck in those days! for there shall be great distress upon the land, and wrath upon this people. ²⁴ And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and be led away captive among all nations; and Jerusalem shall be trodden down by the Gentiles, till the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.

²⁸ But Jesus turned, and said to them, Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children. ²⁹ For, behold, the days are coming in which they will say, Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bore, and the breasts that never gave suck. ³⁰ Then shall they begin to say to the mountains, Fall on us; and to the hills, Cover us.

⁴⁷ and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

³⁸ And Peter said to them: Repent, and be immersed, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ, in order to the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. ³⁹ For the promise is to you, and your children, and to all that are afar off, as many as the Lord our God shall call. ⁴⁰ And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying: Save yourselves from this wicked generation.

¹⁹ Repent, therefore, and turn, in order that your sins may be blotted out, so that seasons of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord,

²¹ And I have given her time to repent; and she will not repent of her lewdness. ²² Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and those who commit adultery with her into great affliction, unless they repent of their deeds.

¹² And forgive us our debts, as we also forgive our debtors.

²⁴ And when he began to make a settlement, there was brought to him one that owed him ten thou sand talents.

⁴¹ A certain creditor had two debtors; the one owed him five hundred denarii, the other, fifty. ⁴² But as they had nothing to pay, he forgave them both. Which of them, then, will love him the more?

⁴ and forgive us our sins, for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

⁷ and said to him: Go, wash in the pool of Siloam; which, translated, means Sent. He went, therefore, and washed and came seeing.

¹¹ He answered and said: A man called Jesus made clay and spread it on my eyes, and said to me: Go to the pool of Siloam and wash. After I had gone and washed, I received my sight.

³ I tell you, No; but unless you repent, you shall all likewise perish.

¹⁹ and seeing a fig-tree on the road, he went to it, and found nothing on it but leaves; and he said to it: Let no fruit grow on you henceforth forever. And the fig-tree immediately withered. ²⁰ And when the disciples saw it, they were astonished, and said: How soon has the fig-tree withered!

³⁴ And when the time of the fruit drew near, he sent his servants to the vine-dressers to receive the fruits of it. ³⁵ And the vine-dressers took his servants, and scourged one, and killed another, and stoned another. ³⁶ Again he sent other servants more than the first: and they treated them in like manner. ³⁷ But afterward he sent to them his son, saying, They will reverence my son. ³⁸ But the vine-dressers, when they saw the son, said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and seize upon the inheritance. ³⁹ And they took him, and carried him out of the vineyard, and killed him. ⁴⁰ Therefore, when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those vine dressers?

¹² And on the morrow, as they were coming from Bethany, he was hungry; ¹³ and he saw at a distance a fig-tree that had leaves; and he went, if perhaps he might find any thing on it. And when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for it was not the time for figs. ¹⁴ And he answered and said to it: No more may any one ever eat fruit from you. And his disciples heard it.

¹⁰ And at the proper sea son, he sent a servant to those vine-dressers, that they should give him of the fruit of the vineyard. But the vine-dressers scourged him, and sent him away empty-handed. ¹¹ And ho then sent another servant. But they scourged him also, and treated him shamefully, and sent him away empty-handed. ¹² And he also sent a third; but they wounded him, and drove him out. ¹³ And the owner of the vineyard said: What shall I do? I will send my beloved son; perhaps, when they see him, they will reverence him. ¹⁴ But when the vine-dressers saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying: This is the heir; come, let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.

¹⁶ You have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and appointed you, that you may go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit may remain; that whatever you ask of the Father in my name, he may give you.

²² But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faithfulness,

¹⁷ Not that I seek a gift; but I desire fruit that may abound to your account.

⁹ and think not to say within yourselves, "We have Abraham for our father; for I say to you that God is able from these stones to raise up children to Abraham. ¹⁰ Even now the ax is lying at the root of the trees: therefore, every tree that does not bring forth good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.

¹⁹ Every tree that does not produce goodly fruit, is cut down and thrown into the fire.

⁹ And now also the ax is lying at the root of the trees; therefore, every tree that does not produce good fruit, is cut down and cast into the fire.

² Every branch in me that bears no fruit, he takes away; and every branch that bears fruit, he prunes, that it may bear more fruit.

⁶ If any one abide not in me, he is thrown out as a branch, and withers; and such are gathered, and thrown into the fire, and burned.

⁴ Or, do you despise the riches of his goodness, and his forbearance, and his long suffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance? ⁵ But, according to your hard and impenitent heart, you treasure up to yourself wrath for a day of wrath, and of the revelation of the righteous judgment of God,

¹ Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they may be saved.

¹⁴ if, by any means, I may excite to jealousy those who are my flesh, and save some of them.

⁹ The Lord does not delay concerning his promise, as some men count delay, but he is long-suffering toward us, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

¹⁵ who both killed the Lord Jesus and the prophets, and have persecuted us, and do not please God, and are opposed to all men,

⁸ But that which produces thorns and thistles is rejected, and is near the curse, the end of which is to be burned.

³ And they sung the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying: Great and wonderful are thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints. ⁴ Who will not fear thee, Lord, and glorify thy name? For thou alone art holy; for all nations shall come and worship before thee: because thy judgments are made manifest.

⁵ And I heard the angel of the waters, saying: Just art thou, who art and who wast, the Holy One, because thou hast thus judged. ⁶ For they have shed the blood of saints and of prophets, and thou hast given them blood to drink, and they are worthy. ⁷ And I heard a voice from the altar saying: Even so; Lord God Al mighty, true and just are thy judgments.

²³ And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and curing every disease, and every kind of sickness among the people.

¹⁵ And he taught in their synagogues, being glorified by all. ¹⁶ And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up; and, as his custom was, he entered the synagogue on the sabbath-day, and stood up to read.

⁴⁴ And he continued to preach in the synagogues of Galilee.

³² And as they were going out, behold, they brought to him a dumb man possessed with a demon. ³³ And after the demon had been cast out, the dumb man spoke. And the multitudes were astonished, and said: Never was it seen thus in Israel.

²¹ And he asked his father: How long is it since this came upon him? He replied: From childhood.

² and also certain women that had been cured of evil spirits and diseases; Mary, called Magdalene, out of whom had gone seven demons,

²⁷ And when he came out upon the land, there met him a certain man from the city, who had been possessed with demons for a long time, and who wore no clothes, and dwelt in no house, but in the tombs.

⁴³ And a woman that had been afflicted with an issue of blood for twelve years, who had spent her whole living upon physicians, and could be cured by no one,

¹⁶ And ought not this woman, who is a daughter of Abra ham, whom Satan has bound, lo, these eighteen years, to be loosed from this bond on the sabbath-day?

⁵ And a certain man was there, who had been sick thirty-eight years. ⁶ When Jesus saw him lying, and knew that he had been already a long time in that condition, he said to him: Do you wish to be restored to health?

¹⁹ and asked them, saying: Is this your son, who, you say, was born blind? How, then, does he now see? ²⁰ His parents answered them, and said: We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind; ²¹ but how he now sees we know not; or who opened his eyes we know not. He is of age; ask him; he will speak for himself.

² And a certain man, lame from his mother's womb, was carried along, whom they laid daily at that gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, that he might ask charity of those who were going into the temple.

²² for the man on whom this sign of healing had been performed was more than forty years old.

⁸ And there was a certain man in Lystra, without strength in his feet, who sat, for he was a cripple from his mother's womb, and had never walked. ⁹ This man heard Paul speak, who, looking earnestly on him, and seeing that he had faith to be saved, ¹⁰ said, with a loud voice: Stand erect upon your feet. And he leaped and walked.

¹⁶ When the evening had come, they brought to him many that were possessed with demons: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and cured all that were sick;

⁸ But he knew their thoughts; and he said to the man that had the withered hand: Rise, and stand forth in the midst. And he arose, and stood. ⁹ Then Jesus said to them, I will ask you a question: Which is lawful on the sabbath, to do good, or to do evil? to save life, or to kill? ¹⁰ And looking round upon them all, he said to him: Stretch forth your hand. And he did so; and his hand was restored like the other.

²³ and besought him earnestly, saying: My little daughter is at the point of death; come, lay thy hands on her, that she may be saved, and she will live.

⁵ And he was unable to do any mighty deed there, except that he laid his hands on a few sick persons and cured them;

²⁵ Then he again laid his hands on his eyes, and made him look up. And he was restored, and saw all things clearly.

¹⁸ they shall take up serpents; and, if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

⁴⁰ And when the sun had gone down, all that had any sick with various diseases, brought them to him; and he laid his hands on every one of them, and cured them.

¹⁴ And when he saw them, he said to them: Go, show your selves to the priests. And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were made clean. ¹⁵ Bat, one of them, seeing that he was restored to health, turned back, and, with a loud voice, glorified God. ¹⁶ And he fell on his face at his feet, and gave him thanks; and he was a Samaritan. ¹⁷ And Jesus answered and said: Were not the ten cleansed? but where are the nine?

⁴³ And he immediately received his sight, and followed him, glorifying God. And all the people, when they saw it, gave praise to God.

¹⁷ And Ananias went, and entered the house, and laying his hands on him, said: Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, who appeared to you on the road by which you came, has sent me, that you may receive your sight, and be filled with the Holy Spirit.

² But when the Pharisees saw it, they said to him: Behold, your disciples are doing what it is not lawful to do on the Sabbath.

¹⁰ And behold, a man was there that had a withered hand. And they asked him, saying: Is it lawful to cure on the Sabbath-days? that they might accuse him. ¹¹ And he said to them: What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if this fall into a pit on the Sabbath-day, will he not lay hold on it and lift it out? ¹² How much better, then, is a man than a sheep! So it is lawful to do well on the Sabbath-days.

² And they watched him, whether he would cure him on the sabbath-day, that they might accuse him. ³ And he said to the man who had the withered hand: Arise, and come into the midst. ⁴ And he said to them: Is it lawful to do good on the sabbath-day, or to do evil? to save life, or to kill? But they were silent. ⁵ And looking around on them with anger, being grieved for the hardness of their heart, he said to the man: Stretch forth your hand; and he stretched it forth: and his hand was restored. ⁶ And the Pharisees immediately went out with the Herodians, and held a consultation against him, that they might destroy him.

²² And behold, there came one of the rulers of the synagogue, named Jairus; and when he saw him, he fell at his feet,

⁷ And the scribes and Pharisees watched closely, whether he would heal on the sabbath-day, that they might find an accusation against him.

¹¹ But they were filled with madness, and began to consult with one another what they should do to Jesus.

⁴¹ And, behold, there came a man, whose name was Jairus; and he was a ruler of the synagogue; and he fell down at the feet of Jesus, and besought him to come into his house;

³ And Jesus answered and spoke to the lawyers and Pharisees, saying: Is it lawful to cure on the sabbath-day? ⁴ But they were silent. And he took him, and healed him, and let him go. ⁵ And he answered and said to them: Which of you, if his son or his ox should fall into a pit, would not immediately pull him out on the sabbath-day? ⁶ And they were not able to give him an answer to these things.

¹⁵ The man departed, and told the Jews that it was Jesus that had restored him to health. ¹⁶ And for this reason did the Jews persecute Jesus, and seek to kill him, because he had done these things on the sabbath.

¹⁴ And it was the sabbath when Jesus made the clay and opened his eyes. ¹⁵ Then again the Pharisees also inquired of him how he had received his sight. He said to them: He put clay on my eyes, and I washed, and I see. ¹⁶ Then some of the Pharisees said: This man is not from God, for he keeps not the sabbath. Others said: How can a man that is a sinner do such signs? And there was a division among them?

¹⁵ After the reading of the law and the prophets, the rulers of the synagogue sent to them, saying: Brethren, if you have a word of exhortation for the people, speak.

⁸ But Crispus, the ruler of the synagogue, believed on the Lord, with all his house; and many of the Corinthians hearing, believed, and were immersed.

¹⁷ And all the Greeks took Sosthenes, the ruler of the synagogue, and beat him before the judgment-seat. And Gallic cared for none of these things.

² For I testify for them, that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge.

⁵ Hypocrite! first pull the beam out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to pull the splinter out of your brother's eye.

⁷ Hypocrites! well did Isaiah prophesy of you, saying,

¹⁴ Let them alone; they are blind leaders of the blind; and if the blind lead the blind, both will fall into the pit.

¹³ But alas for you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you eat up the houses of widows, and for a pretext make long prayers. For this reason, you shall receive the greater condemnation.

²⁸ So also you outwardly appear to men to be just, but within you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.

⁴² Or, how can you say to your brother: Brother, let me pull out the splinter that is in your eye, when you yourself see not the beam that is in your own eye? Hypocrite, first pull the beam out of your own eye, and then you shall see clearly to pull out the splinter that is in your brother's eye.

¹ In the mean time, when myriads of the people had come together, so that they trod one upon another, he began to say to his disciples first of all: Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.

⁵ And he answered and said to them: Which of you, if his son or his ox should fall into a pit, would not immediately pull him out on the sabbath-day?

²¹ Jesus answered and said to them: I have done one work, and you are all astonished on account of this. ²² Moses gave you circumcision, (not that it is of Moses, but of the fathers,) and you circumcise a man on the sabbath-day. ²³ If a man receives circumcision on the sabbath-day, that the law of Moses may not be broken, are you angry with me, because I have restored the entire man to health on the sabbath-day? ²⁴ Judge not according to appearance, but judge righteous judgment.

²⁰ But Peter said to him: Your money perish with you, because you thought that the gift of God might be purchased with money. ²¹ You have neither part nor share in this matter; for your heart is not right in the sight of God. ²² Repent, there fore, of this your wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the purpose of your heart may be forgiven you. ²³ For I perceive that you are in the gall of bitterness, and in the bond of iniquity.

⁹ Then Saul, who is also called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, and looking earnestly upon him, ¹⁰ said: full of all deceit and all wickedness, child of the devil, enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?

¹⁰ Then Jesus said to him: Get behind me, Satan, for it is written: You shall worship the Lord your God, and him only shall you serve.

²⁷ And he said to them: The sabbath was made for man, not man for the sabbath.

⁸ Bring forth, therefore, fruits worthy of repentance. And begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham for our father; for I say to you, that God is able from these stones to raise up children for Abraham.

⁹ And Jesus said to him: To-day has salvation come to this house, since he also is a son of Abraham.

⁴⁴ You are of your father, the devil; and the desires of your father you will do. He was a murderer from the be ginning, and stood not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks that which is false, he speaks from what is his own; for he is a liar, and the father of it.

²⁶ Brethren, sons of the family of Abraham, and those among you who fear God, to you is the word of this salvation sent.

¹² and the father of circumcision to those who are not only circumcised, but who, also, walk in the steps of that faith which our father Abraham had while he was yet uncircumcised. ¹³ For the promise that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, nor to his posterity, through law, but through the righteousness of faith. ¹⁴ For if they that are of the law be heirs, the faith is made powerless, and the promise is unmeaning; ¹⁵ for the law inflicts punishment; for where no law is, there is no transgression. ¹⁶ Therefore, the inheritance is by faith, that it may be according to grace, in order that the promise may be sure to all his posterity, not to those only who are of the law, but to those, also, who are of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all,

²⁶ and that they may awake to sobriety out of the snare of the devil, after having been taken captive by him according to his will.

⁶ And they were not able to give him an answer to these things.

³⁷ And when he was now near the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and to praise God, with a loud voice, for all the mighty deeds which they had seen, ³⁸ saying: Blessed is the king that comes in the name of the Lord; peace in heaven, and glory in the highest. ³⁹ And some of the Pharisees from among the multitude, said to him: Teacher, rebuke your disciples. ⁴⁰ And he answered, and said to them: I say to you, that if these had been silent, the stones would have cried out.

⁴⁸ and found nothing that they could do, for all the people hung on his words.

⁴⁰ And after this they durst not ask him any question at all.

¹⁷ The multitude therefore that was with him, testified that he had called Lazarus out of the tomb, and raised him from the dead. ¹⁸ For this reason, also, the multitude met him, be cause they had heard that he had done this sign.

⁹ And all the people saw him walking and praising God; ¹⁰ and they recognized him, that it was he that had sat for charity at the Beautiful gate of the temple. And they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him. ¹¹ And while he was holding to Peter and John, all the people ran together to them in the porch called Solomon s, greatly astonished.

²¹ And when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding nothing for which they could punish them, because of the people; for they all glorified God on ac count of that which had been done;

⁹ But they shall proceed no further; for their madness shall be manifest to all, as was the madness of those men.

¹⁶ having a good conscience, that, inasmuch as they speak against you as evil-doers, they may be ashamed who traduce your good con duct in Christ.

²⁴ Another parable he laid before them, saying: The kingdom of heaven is likened to a man that sowed good seed in his field.

³¹ Another parable he laid before them, saying: The kingdom of heaven is like- a grain of mustard, that a man took and sowed in his field. ³² It is, indeed, the least of all seeds; but when it is grown it is the largest of garden-plants, and be comes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and roost in its branches.

²⁶ And he said: So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should sow seed in the ground,

³⁰ And he said: To what shall we liken the kingdom of God? Or, by what similitude shall we illustrate it? ³¹ It is like a grain of mustard, which, when it is sown in the ground, is less than all seeds that are in the ground; ³² yet, when it is sown, it grows up, and becomes larger than all garden-plants, and sends out great branches, so that the birds of the air can roost under its shadow. ³³ And with many such parables he spoke the word to them, as they were able to hear. ³⁴ But without a parable he did not speak to them; but when alone, he explained all things to his disciples.

³¹ To what, then, shall I compare the men of this generation? and to what are they like?

²⁰ And again he said: To what shall I liken the kingdom of God?

²¹ nor shall it be said, Lo here! or Lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is among you.

²⁰ And Jesus said to them: Because of your unbelief. For verily I say to you, If you have faith like a grain of mustard-seed, you shall say to this mountain, Be removed from this place to that, and it shall be removed: and nothing shall be impossible for you.

⁶ And the Lord said: If you had faith like a grain of mustard, you might say to this sycamine-tree, Be uprooted, and be planted in the sea, and it should obey you.

⁴¹ Then they that gladly received his word were immersed, and on that day there were added to them about three thou sand souls.

⁴ But many of those who heard the word, believed: and the number of the men was about five thousand.

¹⁴ Simeon has declared how God, at the first, did visit the Gentiles, in order to take out from among them a people for his name. ¹⁵ And with this agree the words of the prophets; as it is written, ¹⁶ After this I will return, and build again the tabernacle of David which has fallen down; and I will build again its ruins, and I will set it up; ¹⁷ that the rest of men may seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name has been called, says the Lord, who does all these things. ¹⁸ Known to God from eternity are all bis works.

²⁰ And when they heard it, they glorified the Lord, and said to him: You see, brother, how many myriads of the Jews there are that believe, and they are all zealous for the law.

¹⁹ by the power of signs and wonders by the power of the Holy Spirit. So that from Jerusalem, and round about as far as Illyricum, I have fully preached the gospel of the Christ;

¹⁵ And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying: The kingdom of the world has become our Lord's and his Christ s, and he shall reign from age to age.

³³ He spoke another parable to them: The kingdom of. heaven is like leaven which a woman took and hid in three measures of flour, till the whole was leavened.

¹⁴ but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him, shall never thirst. But the water that I will give him, shall be in him a fountain of water springing up in order to eternal life.

⁶ Your boasting is not good; know you not that a little leaven leavens the whole mass?

⁶ being confident of this very thing, that he who has begun a good work in you, will carry it on till the day of Jesus Christ;

⁹ I also pray for this, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and all understanding, ¹⁰ in order that you may distinguish things that differ, to the end that you may be pure and blameless till the day of Christ, ¹¹ being filled with the fruit of righteousness, which fruit is by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.

²³ Now the God of peace himself sanctify you wholly; and may your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. ²⁴ Faithful is he that calls you; and he will do what he has promised.

²¹ Wherefore, laying aside all filthiness, and every excess caused by malice, receive with meekness the ingrafted word, which is able to save your souls.

³⁵ And Jesus went through all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and curing every disease and every infirmity.

⁶ and he wondered at their unbelief. And he went to the villages round about, and taught.

³² And they were in the road going up to Jerusalem; and Jesus went before them; and they were amazed, and as they followed, they were afraid. And again taking the twelve aside, he began to tell them what was about to befall him. ³³ Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of man will be delivered to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death, and deliver him to the Gentiles; ³⁴ and they will deride him, and scourge him, and spit upon him, and kill him, and on the third day he will rise again.

⁴³ But he said to them: I must make known the good news of the kingdom of God to other cities also; for to this end I have been sent. ⁴⁴ And he continued to preach in the synagogues of Galilee.

⁵¹ And it came to pass, as the time for him to be taken up into heaven had fully come, that he set his face steadfastly to go up to Jerusalem.

³⁸ how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit, and with power; who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed by the devil; for God was with him.

¹⁴ How strait is the gate, and how narrow the way, that leads to life! and few there are that find it.

²⁵ When the disciples heard it, they were greatly amazed, and said: Who, then, can be saved?

¹⁶ So the last shall be first, and the first last. For many are called, but few are chosen.

³ And as he was sitting upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately, and said: Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the age? ⁴ And Jesus answered and said to them: Take heed that no one deceive you. ⁵ For many will come in my name, saying, I am the Christ; and will deceive many.

⁴ Tell us, when shall these things be? And what shall be the sign when all these things are about to be accomplished? ⁵ Jesus answering them, began to say: Take heed, lest any one deceive you.

¹³ And a certain one of the multitude said to him: Teacher, speak to my brother, that he divide the inheritance with me. ¹⁴ But he said to him: Man, who made me a judge or a divider over you? ¹⁵ And he said to them: Take heed and beware of covetousness; for a man's life depends not on the abundance of his possessions.

⁷ And they asked him, saying: Teacher, when shall these things be? And what shall be the sign when these things come to pass? ⁸ He replied: Take heed that you be not deceived; for many will come in my name, saying: I am he; and, The time is near. Go not, therefore, after them.

²¹ Peter seeing this one, said to Jesus: Lord, what shall this one do? ²² Jesus said to him: If I will that he remain till I come, what is that to you? Do you follow me.

⁷ But he said to them: It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has reserved under his own control. ⁸ But you shall receive power, after the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you shall be witnesses for me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and to the most distant part of the earth.

¹³ Enter in through the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leads to destruction; and many there are that go in through it. ¹⁴ How strait is the gate, and how narrow the way, that leads to life! and few there are that find it.

¹² From the days of John the Immerser till now, the kingdom of heaven is taken by violence, and men of violence seize upon it eagerly.

¹⁸ For John said to Herod: It is not lawful for you to have your brother's wife. ¹⁹ And Herodias was angry with him, and desired to have him killed, and was not able; ²⁰ for Herod feared John, because he knew him to be a just and holy man; and he kept him in safety. And having heard him, he did many things, and heard him with pleasure.

³⁶ Watch, therefore, and pray at all times, that you may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.

²⁷ Labor not for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures to life eternal, which the Son of man will give you; for him has God the Father at tested.

³⁴ You will seek me, and shall not find me; and where I am, you can not come.

²¹ Then spoke Jesus to them again; I go away, and you will seek me, and in your sin you shall die; whither I go, you can not come.

³³ Little children, yet a little while I am with you. You will seek me, and, as I said to the Jews, whither I go, you can not come, so now I say to you.

³¹ but Israel, who sought after a law of justification, has not attained to a law of justification. ³² And why? Because they sought it not by faith, but as if by works of law: for they stumbled against that stone of stumbling, ³³ as it is written: Behold, I lay in Zion a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offense: and whoever believes on him, shall not be ashamed.

³ For being ignorant of God's plan of justification, and seeking to establish their own plan of justification, they have not submitted to God's plan of justification.

²⁴ Know you not that all the runners in the race-course run the race, but that one receives the prize? So run, that you may obtain the prize. ²⁵ Every combatant in the public games is temperate in all things: they, indeed, that they may obtain a corruptible, but we, that we may obtain an incorruptible crown. ²⁶ I, therefore, so run, not as with uncertainty; I so aim my blows, not as one that beats the air; ²⁷ but I put my body under severe discipline, and bring it into subjection, lest, after I have preached to others, I myself should be rejected.

¹² So, then, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; ¹³ for it is God, who, of his good pleasure, works in you both the will and the power to perform.

²⁹ to which end I also labor, striving according to his energy, which works in me mightily.

¹¹ Let us earnestly strive, therefore, to enter into that rest, lest any one fall after the same example of unbelief.

¹⁰ Wherefore, brethren, give the greater diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if you do these things, you will never fall.

²¹ Not every one that says to me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that does the will of my Father who is in heaven. ²² Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name, and in thy name cast out demons, and in thy name done many mighty works? ²³ And then will I profess to them, I never knew you: depart from me, you that work iniquity.

¹⁰ While they were going to buy, the bridegroom came; and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage supper; and the door was closed. ¹¹ Afterward the other virgins also came, and said: Lord! Lord! open for us. ¹² But he answered and said: Verily I say to you, I know you not.

⁴¹ Then will he say to those on his left hand: Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire, prepared for the devil and his angels.

⁴⁶ But why call me Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I command?

²⁷ And he shall say, I tell you, I know you not, whence you are; depart from me, all you workers of iniquity.

² (for he says: I have heard thee in an acceptable time, and in the day of salvation I have helped thee. Behold, now is the acceptable time; behold, now is the day of salvation:)

⁷ Wherefore, as the Holy Spirit says: To-day, if you will hear his voice, ⁸ harden not your hearts, as in the bitter provocation, in the day of trial in the wilderness,

¹⁷ For you know that afterward, when he desired to inherit the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no means to change his father's mind, though he sought it earnestly with tears.

⁵ having a form of godliness, but denying its power: from these also turn away.

¹⁶ They profess that they know God, but in their works they deny him, being detestable and disobedient, and, as it respects every good work, rejected.

¹² But he answered and said: Verily I say to you, I know you not.

²⁵ When once the master of the house has risen, and closed the door, and you begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open for us, and he shall answer and say to you, I know you not, whence you are;

³ but if any one loves God, he is taught by him).

⁹ now, however, after having known God, rather indeed having been known by God, how is it that you are turning back to the weak and beggarly rudiments, to which you desire again to be in bondage, as at first?

¹⁹ But the foundation of God stands firm, having this inscription: The Lord knows those who are his; and, Let every one that names the name of Christ depart from iniquity.

¹¹ I also say to you, That many shall come from the east and the west, and shall recline with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven; ¹² but the sons of the kingdom shall be cast into the darkness that is without. There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

⁴² And he said to Jesus: remember me, Lord, when thou comest in thy kingdom. ⁴³ And Jesus said to him: Verily I say to you, to-day you shall be with me in paradise.

⁵ which endurance, of yours is a proof of the righteous judgment of God, in order that you may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you suffer:

¹¹ For thus will an entrance be given you abundantly into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

⁸ But the fearful, and the unbelieving, and the detestable, and murderers and lewd persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, shall have their part in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.

¹⁵ With out are dogs and sorcerers and lewd persons and murderers and idolaters, and every one that loves and makes a lie.

¹¹ I also say to you, That many shall come from the east and the west, and shall recline with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven;

²⁷ And then will ho send his angels, and gather his elect from the four winds, from the most distant part of earth to the most distant part of heaven.

²⁸ Therefore, be it known to you, that the salvation of God is sent to the Gentiles, and they will hear.

⁶ that the Gentiles should be fellow-heirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in the Christ, through the gospel, ⁷ of which I was made a minister according to the gift of the grace of God which was given to me, in proportion to the energy of his power: ⁸ to me, who am by far the least of all the saints, has this grace been given, that I might preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of the Christ,

⁶ which is present among you, as it is also in all the world, and is producing fruit, even as it has been doing also among you, since the day you heard and knew the grace of God in truth,

²³ if you continue in the faith, founded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel that you have heard, which has been preached to every creature under heaven, of which I, Paul, have been made a minister.

⁹ After this I saw, and behold, a great multitude, that no one could number, out of all nations and tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and there were palms in their hands; ¹⁰ and they cried with a loud voice, saying: Salvation to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb.

³⁰ :

²⁸ But what think you? A man had two sons; and he went to the first, and said, Son, go work to-day in my vineyard. ²⁹ He answered and said, I will not. But he afterward regretted it, and went. ³⁰ And he came to the other, and spoke to him in like manner. And he answered and said, I go, sir; and went not. ³¹ Which of the two did the will of his father? They said to him, The first. Jesus said to them: Verily I say to you, The publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you.

³¹ But many that are first shall be last; and the last first.

¹ At that time Herod the tetrarch heard of the fame of Jesus;

¹ In the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, when Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea, and Herod was tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip was tetrarch of Iturea and of the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias was tetrarch of Abilene,

¹⁴ And Herod the king heard of him, for his name had be come known; and he said: John the Immerser has risen from the dead, and for this reason, the powers of the spiritual world are active within him.

²⁶ And the king was very sad; yet, on account of his oath and his guests, he would not reject her. ²⁷ And the king immediately sent one of his guards, and commanded his head to be brought. ²⁸ And he went and beheaded him in the prison, and brought his head in a dish, and gave it to the maiden; and the maiden gave it to her mother.

¹⁹ But Herod the tetrarch having been reproved by him on account of Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip, and for all the wicked deeds which Herod did, ²⁰ added this also to them all, that he shut up John in prison.

⁷ And Herod the tetrarch heard of all things that were done by him; and he was perplexed, because it was said by some, that John had risen from the dead; ⁸ and by some, that Elijah had appeared; and by others, that a prophet of ancient times had risen again. ⁹ And Herod said: John I have beheaded: but who is this, of whom I hear such things? And he desired to see him.

⁸ When Herod saw Jesus, he rejoiced greatly; for he had, for a long time, desired to see him, because he had heard many things of him; and he hoped to see some sign done by him. ⁹ And he questioned him concerning many things; but he made him no answer. ¹⁰ And the chief priests and the scribes stood by, and vehemently accused him. ¹¹ But Herod and his guards treated him with contempt; and having mocked him, and put on him a gaudy robe, he sent him back to Pilate.

³² Jesus answered them: Many good works have I showed you from my Father: for which of these works do you stone me?

⁸ His disciples said to him: Rabbi, the Jews just now sought to stone thee, and art thou going thither again? ⁹ Jesus answered: Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any one walks during the day,, he does not stumble, for he sees the light of this world. ¹⁰ But if any one walks in the night, he stumbles, be cause there is no light in him.

⁴ I have glorified thee on the earth; I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do. ⁵ And now, Father, glorify me with thyself, with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.

³⁰ Therefore, when Jesus had received the vinegar, he said: It is finished. And he bowed his head, and gave up his spirit.

¹⁰ For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to make the author of their salvation perfect through sufferings.

⁹ and, having been made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation to all that obey him,

²⁸ For the law makes men high priests, who have infirmity; but the word of the oath, which was after the law, makes the Son, who is perfected forever.

¹⁸ Be hold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of man shall be delivered to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death,

¹¹ And the multitude said: This is Jesus the prophet, that is from Nazareth of Galilee.

⁵³ And they did not receive him, because his face was turned toward Jerusalem.

³⁴ Jesus said to them: My food is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.

⁴ I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day; the night comes, when no man can work.

⁹ Jesus answered: Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any one walks during the day,, he does not stumble, for he sees the light of this world.

⁵⁴ Therefore, Jesus no longer walked openly among the Jews, but withdrew thence to the region near the wilderness, to a city called Ephraim, and there he remained with his disciples.

³⁵ Then Jesus said to them: Yet a little while is the light with you: walk while you have the light, lest the darkness overtake you. For he that walks in the darkness knows not whither he goes.

²⁷ For those who dwell in Jerusalem, and their rulers, be cause they did not know him, nor the words of the prophets, which are read every sabbath-day, have fulfilled them in condemning him.

³⁵ And the vine-dressers took his servants, and scourged one, and killed another, and stoned another. ³⁶ Again he sent other servants more than the first: and they treated them in like manner.

³ and sent his servants to call those who had been invited to the marriage feast; and they refused to come.

⁶ And the rest laid hold of his servants, and abused them, and killed them.

³⁷ Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets and stonest those who are sent to thee, how often have I desired to gather thy children together, as a bird gathers her young under her wings, and you refused. ³⁸ Behold, your house is left to you deserted. ³⁹ For I say to you, That you shall not see me henceforth, till you shall say, Blessed is he that comes in the name of the Lord.

²⁸ And he was angry, and would not go in. Then his father went out and entreated him.

⁴¹ And when he came near, he looked upon the city, and wept over it, ⁴² saying: Hadst thou known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which were for thy peace! But now, they are hid from thy eyes.

⁴⁴ and will destroy thee and thy children within thee, and will not leave in thee one stone upon another, because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation.

²⁸ But Jesus turned, and said to them, Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children.

¹⁴ But you rejected the Holy and Just One, and demanded that a murderer should be given to you; ¹⁵ and you slew the Author of life, whom God has raised from the dead, of which we are witnesses.

⁵² Which of the prophets did not your fathers persecute? They slew also those who foretold the coming of the Just One, of whom you have now become the betrayers and murderers;

⁵⁹ And they stoned Stephen while he was calling on the Lord, and saying: Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.

¹ And at that time there was a great persecution against the church that was in Jerusalem; and they were all dispersed throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles.

²⁵ For Hagar represents Mount Sinai in Arabia, and corresponds to the present Jerusalem, for she is in bondage with her children. ²⁶ But Jerusalem which is above is free; and she is the mother of us all.

⁸ And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which, spiritually, is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.

⁹ And the multitudes that went before, and that followed after, cried, saying: Hosanna to the son of David. Blessed is he that comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

⁵ And as some were saying of the temple, that it was adorned with beautiful stones and offerings, he said: ⁶ As for these things which you see, the days will come in which there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.

²⁴ And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and be led away captive among all nations; and Jerusalem shall be trodden down by the Gentiles, till the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.

³⁴ You will seek me, and shall not find me; and where I am, you can not come. ³⁵ Then the Jews said among themselves: Whither is this man about to go, that we shall not find him? Is he about to go to those who are dispersed among the Greeks, and to teach the Greeks? ³⁶ What means this saying which he uttered, You will seek me, and will not find me; and, Where I am you can not come?

²² Then said the Jews: Will he kill himself, because he says, Whither I go, you can not come? ²³ And he said to them: You are from beneath, I am from above; you are of this world, I am not of this world. ²⁴ Therefore said I to you, that you shall die in your sins. For if you believe not that I am, He, you shall die in your sins.

¹³ took branches of palm-trees, and went out to meet him, and cried: Hosanna, blessed is the king of Israel that comes in the name of the Lord.

³⁵ Then Jesus said to them: Yet a little while is the light with you: walk while you have the light, lest the darkness overtake you. For he that walks in the darkness knows not whither he goes. ³⁶ While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become the sons of light. These things spoke Jesus, and he departed, and concealed himself from them.

¹⁹ Yet a little while, and the world sees me no more; but you shall see me. Because I live, you also shall live. ²⁰ In that clay you shall know that I am in my Father, arid you in me, and I in you. ²¹ He that has my commandments and keeps them, he it is that loves me; and he that loves me shall be loved by my Father; and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. ²² Judas, not Iscariot, said to him: Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself to us, and not to the world? ²³ Jesus answered and said to him: If any one loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him, and make our abode with him.

¹³ And they brought forward false witnesses, who said: This man ceases not to speak words against this holy place, and the law. ¹⁴ For we have heard him say, that this Jesus the Nazarene will destroy this place, and will change the customs which Moses delivered to us.

⁹ that if you will confess with your mouth, that Jesus is Lord, and will believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, you shall be saved. ¹⁰ For with the heart we believe, in order to justification; and with the mouth we make confession, it order to salvation. ¹¹ For the scripture says: He that believes on him shall not be ashamed. ¹² For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek; for the same Lord of all is rich to all that call on him: ¹³ For every one that calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. ¹⁴ How, then, shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? ¹⁵ And how shall they preach, unless they be sent? As it is written: How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, who bring joyous news of good things!

¹⁵ But to this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart: ¹⁶ but whenever their heart shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away. ¹⁷ Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. ¹⁸ And we all, with unvailed face, reflecting the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image, from glory to glory, even as by the Lord the Spirit.
