⁴ but God, being rich in mercy, on account of his great love with which he loved us, ⁵ made alive with Christ even us, being dead to our offenses, (by grace you are saved,)

¹⁴ Wherefore, the scripture says: Awake you that sleep, and arise from the dead, and Christ will give you light.

⁴ But when the kindness and philanthropy of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, ⁵ not by works of righteousness which we had done, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Spirit, ⁶ which he poured out on us richly, through Jesus Christ our Savior;

¹⁶ Be not deceived, my beloved brethren; ¹⁷ every good gift, and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no change, nor slightest trace of turning. ¹⁸ Of his own will, he begot us with the word of truth, in order that we might be, as it were, the first-fruits of his creatures.
