³⁵ And the vine-dressers took his servants, and scourged one, and killed another, and stoned another. ³⁶ Again he sent other servants more than the first: and they treated them in like manner. ³⁷ But afterward he sent to them his son, saying, They will reverence my son. ³⁸ But the vine-dressers, when they saw the son, said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and seize upon the inheritance. ³⁹ And they took him, and carried him out of the vineyard, and killed him. ⁴⁰ Therefore, when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those vine dressers? ⁴¹ They said to him: He will miserably destroy those wicked men, and let out his vineyard to other vine dressers, who will give him the fruits in their season.

⁶ And the rest laid hold of his servants, and abused them, and killed them. ⁷ And when that king heard of it, he was angry, and sent his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city.

³¹ So then you testify against yourselves, that you are the sons of those who killed the prophets. ³² Do you also fill up the measure of your fathers. ³³ Serpents, generation of vipers, how can you escape the condemnation of hell?

³¹ On the same day, certain Pharisees came and said to him: Depart, and get away from this place; for Herod intends to kill you. ³² And he said to them: Go and toll that fox, Be hold, I cast out demons, and perform cures to-day and to-morrow, and the third day I finish the work. ³³ But I must continue my journey to-day and to-morrow and the day following; for it is not possible that a prophet perish out of Jerusalem. ³⁴ Jerusalem, Jerusalem, that killest the prophets and stonest them that are sent to thee: how often have I desired to gather thy children together, as a bird gathers her young under her wings, and you refused.
