²⁸ And Peter answered him, and said: Lord, if it be thou, bid me come to thee on the water.

²⁷ Then Peter answered and said to him: Behold, we have left all and followed thee; what, then, shall we have?

³³ Peter answered and said to him: Though all shall be offended at thee, yet will I never be offended. ³⁴ Jesus said to him: Verily I say to you, This night, before the cock crows, you will deny me three times. ³⁵ Peter said to him: Though it should be necessary for me to die with thee, I will not deny thee. In like manner said all the disciples.

³¹ But he said with the more vehemence: Though it should be necessary for me to die with thee, I would not deny thee. And so said they all.

³¹ And the Lord said: Simon, Simon, behold, Satan has demanded you apostles for himself, that he may sift you as wheat. ³² But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith fail not. ³ For I say, through the grace given to me, to every one that is among you, that he must not think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but that he be disposed to think modestly, as God has distributed to each a measure of faith.
