⁸ Διακόνους (Deacons) ὡσαύτως (likewise) σεμνούς (must be dignified), μὴ (not) διλόγους (double-tongued), μὴ (not) οἴνῳ (to wine) πολλῷ (much) προσέχοντας (being given), μὴ (not) αἰσχροκερδεῖς (greedy of dishonest gain),

³ ἐπισκέψασθε (Select) δέ (therefore), ἀδελφοί (brothers), ἄνδρας (men) ἐξ (out from) ὑμῶν (yourselves) μαρτυρουμένους (being well attested), ἑπτὰ (seven) πλήρεις (full) Πνεύματος (of the Spirit) καὶ (and) σοφίας (wisdom), οὓς (whom) καταστήσομεν (we will appoint) ἐπὶ (over) τῆς (the) χρείας (task) ταύτης (this). ⁴ ἡμεῖς (We) δὲ (now) τῇ (in the) προσευχῇ (prayer) καὶ (and) τῇ (the) διακονίᾳ (ministry) τοῦ (of the) λόγου (word) προσκαρτερήσομεν (will steadfastly continue).” ⁵ Καὶ (And) ἤρεσεν (was pleasing) ὁ (the) λόγος (statement) ἐνώπιον (before) παντὸς (all) τοῦ (the) πλήθους (multitude); καὶ (and) ἐξελέξαντο (they chose) Στέφανον (Stephen), ἄνδρα (a man) πλήρης* (full) πίστεως (of faith) καὶ (and) Πνεύματος (of the Spirit) Ἁγίου (holy), καὶ (and) Φίλιππον (Philip), καὶ (and) Πρόχορον (Prochorus), καὶ (and) Νικάνορα (Nicanor), καὶ (and) Τίμωνα (Timon), καὶ (and) Παρμενᾶν (Parmenas), καὶ (and) Νικόλαον (Nicolas) προσήλυτον (a convert) Ἀντιοχέα (of Antioch), ⁶ οὓς (whom) ἔστησαν (they set) ἐνώπιον (before) τῶν (the) ἀποστόλων (apostles); καὶ (and) προσευξάμενοι (having prayed), ἐπέθηκαν (they laid) αὐτοῖς (on them) τὰς (the) χεῖρας (hands).

¹² Διάκονοι (Deacons) ἔστωσαν (let be) μιᾶς (of one) γυναικὸς (wife) ἄνδρες (husbands), τέκνων (their children) καλῶς (well) προϊστάμενοι (managing) καὶ (and) τῶν (the) ἰδίων (own) οἴκων (households).

²³ Μηκέτι (No longer) ὑδροπότει (drink only water), ἀλλὰ (but) οἴνῳ (wine) ὀλίγῳ (a little) χρῶ (use), διὰ (because of) τὸν (the) στόμαχον (stomach) καὶ (and) τὰς (the) πυκνάς (frequent) σου (of you) ἀσθενείας (ailments).

⁷ Δεῖ (It behooves) γὰρ (for) τὸν (the) ἐπίσκοπον (overseer) ἀνέγκλητον (blameless) εἶναι (to be), ὡς (as) Θεοῦ (God’s) οἰκονόμον (steward); μὴ (not) αὐθάδη (self-willed), μὴ (not) ὀργίλον (quick tempered), μὴ (not) πάροινον (given to wine), μὴ (not) πλήκτην (a striker), μὴ (not) αἰσχροκερδῆ (greedy of base gain),

³ πρεσβύτιδας (the aged women) ὡσαύτως (likewise), ἐν (in) καταστήματι (behavior) ἱεροπρεπεῖς (reverent), μὴ (not) διαβόλους (slanderers), μηδὲ (not) οἴνῳ (to wine) πολλῷ (much) δεδουλωμένας (being enslaved), καλοδιδασκάλους (teachers of what is good),

¹⁰ ἐκ (Out of) τοῦ (the) αὐτοῦ (same) στόματος (mouth) ἐξέρχεται (proceed forth) εὐλογία (blessing) καὶ (and) κατάρα (cursing). οὐ (Not) χρή (ought), ἀδελφοί (brothers) μου (of Me), ταῦτα (these things) οὕτως (so) γίνεσθαι (to be).

² ποιμάνατε (Shepherd) τὸ (the) ἐν (among) ὑμῖν (you) ποίμνιον (flock) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), ‹ἐπισκοποῦντες› (exercising oversight) μὴ (not) ἀναγκαστῶς (under compulsion), ἀλλὰ (but) ἑκουσίως (willingly), κατὰ (according to) Θεόν (God); μηδὲ (and not) αἰσχροκερδῶς (for base gain), ἀλλὰ (but) προθύμως (eagerly);
