²¹ Οὕτως (So is) ὁ (the one) θησαυρίζων (treasuring up) ἑαυτῷ* (for himself), καὶ (and) μὴ (not) εἰς (toward) Θεὸν (God) πλουτῶν (being rich).”

¹² Ἔλεγεν (He was saying) δὲ (then) καὶ (also) τῷ (to the one) κεκληκότι (having invited) αὐτόν (Him), “Ὅταν (When) ποιῇς (you make) ἄριστον (a dinner) ἢ (or) δεῖπνον (a supper), μὴ (not) φώνει (call) τοὺς (-) φίλους (friends) σου (of you), μηδὲ (nor) τοὺς (the) ἀδελφούς (brothers) σου (of you), μηδὲ (nor) τοὺς (the) συγγενεῖς (relatives) σου (of you), μηδὲ (nor) γείτονας (neighbors) πλουσίους (rich), μή‿ (lest) ποτε (ever) καὶ (also) αὐτοὶ (they) ἀντικαλέσωσίν (should invite in return) σε (you), καὶ (and) γένηται (be made) ἀνταπόδομά (recompense) σοι (to you). ¹³ ἀλλ’ (But) ὅταν (when) δοχὴν (a feast) ποιῇς (you make), κάλει (call) πτωχούς (the poor), ἀναπείρους (the crippled), χωλούς (the lame), τυφλούς (the blind); ¹⁴ καὶ (and) μακάριος (blessed) ἔσῃ (you will be), ὅτι (because) οὐκ (nothing) ἔχουσιν (they have) ἀνταποδοῦναί (to repay) σοι (you). ἀνταποδοθήσεται (It will be recompensed) γάρ (for) σοι (to you) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) ἀναστάσει (resurrection) τῶν (of the) δικαίων (righteous).”

⁴⁴ Πάντες (All) δὲ (now) οἱ (-) ‹πιστεύοντες (having believed) ἦσαν› (were) ἐπὶ (together) τὸ (the) αὐτὸ (same) ‹καὶ› (and) εἶχον (having) ἅπαντα (all things) κοινά (in common); ⁴⁵ καὶ (and) τὰ (the) κτήματα (possessions) καὶ (and) τὰς (the) ὑπάρξεις (goods) ἐπίπρασκον (they were selling) καὶ (and) διεμέριζον (were dividing) αὐτὰ (them) πᾶσιν (to all), καθότι (as) ἄν (-) τις (anyone) χρείαν (need) εἶχεν (had).

⁹ Γινώσκετε (You know) γὰρ (for) τὴν (the) χάριν (grace) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) ἡμῶν (of us) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ), ὅτι (that) δι’ (for the sake of) ὑμᾶς (you) ἐπτώχευσεν (He became poor), πλούσιος (rich) ὤν (being), ἵνα (so that) ὑμεῖς (you) τῇ (-) ἐκείνου (through that) πτωχείᾳ (poverty) πλουτήσητε (might be enriched).

¹² εἰ (If) γὰρ (for) ἡ (the) προθυμία (readiness) πρόκειται (is present), καθὸ (as) ἐὰν (if) ἔχῃ (he might have) εὐπρόσδεκτος (acceptable), οὐ (not) καθὸ (as) οὐκ (not) ἔχει (he does have).

⁶ Τοῦτο (This) δέ (now): ὁ (The one) σπείρων (sowing) φειδομένως (sparingly), φειδομένως (sparingly) καὶ (also) θερίσει (will reap); καὶ (and) ὁ (the one) σπείρων (sowing) ἐπ’ (upon) εὐλογίαις (blessings), ἐπ’ (upon) εὐλογίαις (blessings) καὶ (also) θερίσει (will reap), ⁷ ἕκαστος (each) καθὼς (as) προῄρηται (he purposes) τῇ (in the) καρδίᾳ (heart), μὴ (not) ἐκ (out of) λύπης (regret) ἢ (or) ἐξ (of) ἀνάγκης (necessity); ἱλαρὸν (a cheerful) γὰρ (for) δότην (giver) ἀγαπᾷ (loves) ὁ (-) Θεός (God). ⁸ δυνατεῖ (Able is) δὲ (now) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) πᾶσαν (all) χάριν (grace) περισσεῦσαι (to make abound) εἰς (to) ὑμᾶς (you), ἵνα (so that) ἐν (in) παντὶ (every way), πάντοτε (always), πᾶσαν (all) αὐτάρκειαν (sufficiency) ἔχοντες (having), περισσεύητε (you may abound) εἰς (in) πᾶν (every) ἔργον (work) ἀγαθόν (good). ⁹ καθὼς (As) γέγραπται (it has been written): “Ἐσκόρπισεν (He has scattered abroad), ἔδωκεν (He has given) τοῖς (to the) πένησιν (poor), ἡ (the) δικαιοσύνη (righteousness) αὐτοῦ (of Him) μένει (abides) εἰς (to) τὸν (the) αἰῶνα (age).” ¹⁰ Ὁ (The One) δὲ (now) ἐπιχορηγῶν (supplying) σπόρον* (seed) τῷ (to him) σπείροντι (sowing) καὶ (and) ἄρτον (bread) εἰς (for) βρῶσιν (food) χορηγήσει (will supply) καὶ (and) πληθυνεῖ (will multiply) τὸν (the) σπόρον (seed for sowing) ὑμῶν (of you) καὶ (and) αὐξήσει (will increase) τὰ (the) γενήματα (fruits) τῆς (of the) δικαιοσύνης (righteousness) ὑμῶν (of you), ¹¹ ἐν (in) παντὶ (every way) πλουτιζόμενοι (enriching you) εἰς (to) πᾶσαν (all) ἁπλότητα (generosity), ἥτις (which) κατεργάζεται (produces), δι’ (through) ἡμῶν (us), εὐχαριστίαν (thanksgiving) τῷ (-) Θεῷ (to God). ¹² ὅτι (For) ἡ (the) διακονία (ministry) τῆς (of the) λειτουργίας (service) ταύτης (this) οὐ (not) μόνον (only) ἐστὶν (is) προσαναπληροῦσα (completely filling up) τὰ (the) ὑστερήματα (needs) τῶν (of the) ἁγίων (saints), ἀλλὰ (but) καὶ (also) περισσεύουσα (is overflowing) διὰ (through) πολλῶν (many) εὐχαριστιῶν (thanksgivings) τῷ (-) Θεῷ (to God), ¹³ διὰ (through) τῆς (the) δοκιμῆς (proof) τῆς (of the) διακονίας (service) ταύτης (this), δοξάζοντες (they glorifying) τὸν (-) Θεὸν (God) ἐπὶ (at) τῇ (the) ὑποταγῇ (submission) τῆς (of the) ὁμολογίας (of confession) ὑμῶν (of you) εἰς (to) τὸ (the) εὐαγγέλιον (gospel) τοῦ (-) Χριστοῦ (of Christ) καὶ (and) ἁπλότητι (the generosity) τῆς (of the) κοινωνίας (participation) εἰς (toward) αὐτοὺς (them) καὶ (and) εἰς (toward) πάντας (all); ¹⁴ καὶ (and) αὐτῶν (their) δεήσει (supplication) ὑπὲρ (is for) ὑμῶν (you), ἐπιποθούντων (a longing) ὑμᾶς (for you) διὰ (on account of) τὴν (the) ὑπερβάλλουσαν (surpassing) χάριν (grace) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) ἐφ’ (upon) ὑμῖν (you). ¹⁵ Χάρις (Thanks be) τῷ (-) Θεῷ (to God) ἐπὶ (for) τῇ (the) ἀνεκδιηγήτῳ (indescribable) αὐτοῦ (of Him) δωρεᾷ (gift)!

¹⁰ Ἄρα (So) οὖν (then), ὡς (as) καιρὸν (occasion) ἔχομεν* (we have), ἐργαζώμεθα (we should work) τὸ (-) ἀγαθὸν (good) πρὸς (toward) πάντας (all), μάλιστα (especially) δὲ (now) πρὸς (toward) τοὺς (those) οἰκείους (of the household) τῆς (of the) πίστεως (of faith).

¹⁸ ἀπέχω (I have) δὲ (however) πάντα (all things) καὶ (and) περισσεύω (abound); πεπλήρωμαι (I am full), δεξάμενος (having received) παρὰ (from) Ἐπαφροδίτου (Epaphroditus) τὰ (the things) παρ’ (from) ὑμῶν (you), ὀσμὴν (an odor) εὐωδίας (of a sweet smell), θυσίαν (a sacrifice) δεκτήν (acceptable), εὐάρεστον (well-pleasing) τῷ (-) Θεῷ (to God). ¹⁹ Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) Θεός (the God) μου (of me) πληρώσει (will fill up) πᾶσαν (all) χρείαν (the needs) ὑμῶν (of you), κατὰ (according to) τὸ (the) πλοῦτος (riches) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ἐν (in) δόξῃ (glory) ἐν (in) Χριστῷ (Christ) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus).

¹⁰ ἐν (in) ἔργοις (works) καλοῖς (good) μαρτυρουμένη (being borne witness to), εἰ (if) ἐτεκνοτρόφησεν (she has brought up children), εἰ (if) ἐξενοδόχησεν (she entertained strangers), εἰ (if) ἁγίων (saints’) πόδας (feet) ἔνιψεν (she has washed), εἰ (if to those) θλιβομένοις (being oppressed) ἐπήρκεσεν (she has imparted relief), εἰ (if) παντὶ (every) ἔργῳ (work) ἀγαθῷ (good) ἐπηκολούθησεν (she has followed after).

¹⁴ ὃς (who) ἔδωκεν (gave) ἑαυτὸν (Himself) ὑπὲρ (for) ἡμῶν (us), ἵνα (that) λυτρώσηται (He might redeem) ἡμᾶς (us) ἀπὸ (from) πάσης (all) ἀνομίας (lawlessness), καὶ (and) καθαρίσῃ (might purify) ἑαυτῷ (to Himself) λαὸν (a people) περιούσιον (specially chosen), ζηλωτὴν (zealous) καλῶν (of good) ἔργων (works).

⁸ Πιστὸς (Trustworthy is) ὁ (the) λόγος (saying), καὶ (and) περὶ (concerning) τούτων (these things) βούλομαί (I want) σε (you) διαβεβαιοῦσθαι (to affirm strongly), ἵνα (so that) φροντίζωσιν (may take care) καλῶν (good) ἔργων (works) προΐστασθαι (to be devoted to), οἱ (those) πεπιστευκότες (believing) Θεῷ (God). ταῦτά (These things) ἐστιν (are) καλὰ (excellent) καὶ (and) ὠφέλιμα (profitable) τοῖς (-) ἀνθρώποις (to men).

¹⁶ τῆς (-) δὲ (And) εὐποιΐας (the good) καὶ (and) κοινωνίας (of sharing), μὴ (not) ἐπιλανθάνεσθε (be forgetful); τοιαύταις (with such) γὰρ (for) θυσίαις (sacrifices) εὐαρεστεῖται (is well pleased) ὁ (-) Θεός (God).

⁵ Ἀκούσατε (Listen), ἀδελφοί (brothers) μου (my) ἀγαπητοί (beloved). οὐχ (Not) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) ἐξελέξατο (has chosen) τοὺς (the) πτωχοὺς (poor) τῷ (-) κόσμῳ (in this world) πλουσίους (to be rich) ἐν (in) πίστει (faith) καὶ (and) κληρονόμους (heirs) τῆς (of the) βασιλείας (kingdom) ἧς (that) ἐπηγγείλατο (He promised) τοῖς (to those) ἀγαπῶσιν (loving) αὐτόν (Him)?

¹¹ ἐκκλινάτω (Let him turn away) δὲ (also) ἀπὸ (from) κακοῦ (evil), καὶ (and) ποιησάτω (let him do) ἀγαθόν (good). ζητησάτω (Let him seek) εἰρήνην (peace) καὶ (and) διωξάτω (let him pursue) αὐτήν (it).

¹⁷ ὃς (Whoever) δ’ (now) ἂν (-) ἔχῃ (might have) τὸν (the) βίον (goods) τοῦ (of the) κόσμου (world), καὶ (and) θεωρῇ (might see) τὸν (the) ἀδελφὸν (brother) αὐτοῦ (of him) χρείαν (need) ἔχοντα (having), καὶ (and) κλείσῃ (might close up) τὰ (the) σπλάγχνα (heart) αὐτοῦ (of him) ἀπ’ (from) αὐτοῦ (him), πῶς (how) ἡ (the) ἀγάπη (love) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) μένει (abides) ἐν (in) αὐτῷ (him)?

¹¹ Ἀγαπητέ (Beloved), μὴ (not) μιμοῦ (do imitate) τὸ (what is) κακὸν (evil), ἀλλὰ (but) τὸ (what is) ἀγαθόν (good). ὁ (The one) ἀγαθοποιῶν (doing good), ἐκ (of) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God) ἐστιν (is); ὁ (the one) κακοποιῶν (doing evil), οὐχ (not) ἑώρακεν (has seen) τὸν (-) Θεόν (God).
