⁴² καὶ (And) ἐλθοῦσα (having come), μία (one) χήρα (widow) πτωχὴ (poor) ἔβαλεν (cast in) λεπτὰ (lepta) δύο (two), ὅ (which) ἐστιν (is) κοδράντης (a kodrantes). ⁴³ Καὶ (And) προσκαλεσάμενος (having called to Him) τοὺς (the) μαθητὰς (disciples) αὐτοῦ (of Him), εἶπεν (He says) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Ἀμὴν (Truly) λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you) ὅτι (that) ἡ (the) χήρα (widow) αὕτη (this) ἡ (-) πτωχὴ (poor), πλεῖον (more) πάντων (than all) ἔβαλεν (has cast in) τῶν (of those) βαλλόντων (casting) εἰς (into) τὸ (the) γαζοφυλάκιον (treasury). ⁴⁴ πάντες (All) γὰρ (for) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (that which) περισσεύοντος (was abounding) αὐτοῖς (to them) ἔβαλον (cast in); αὕτη (she) δὲ (however), ἐκ (out of) τῆς (the) ὑστερήσεως (poverty) αὐτῆς (of her), πάντα (all) ὅσα (as much as) εἶχεν (she had) ἔβαλεν (cast in), ὅλον (all) τὸν (the) βίον (livelihood) αὐτῆς (of her).”

¹ Ἀναβλέψας (Having looked up) δὲ (now), εἶδεν (He saw) τοὺς (the ones) βάλλοντας (casting) εἰς (into) τὸ (the) γαζοφυλάκιον (treasury) τὰ (the) δῶρα (gifts) αὐτῶν (of them) πλουσίους (rich). ² εἶδεν (He saw) δέ (then) τινα (a certain) χήραν (widow) πενιχρὰν (poor) βάλλουσαν (casting) ἐκεῖ (in) λεπτὰ (lepta) δύο (two). ³ Καὶ (And) εἶπεν (He said), “Ἀληθῶς (Truly) λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you) ὅτι (that) ἡ (the) χήρα (widow) αὕτη (this) «ἡ (-) πτωχὴ» (poor), πλεῖον (more) πάντων (than all) ἔβαλεν (has cast in); ⁴ πάντες (all) γὰρ (for) οὗτοι (these) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (that which) περισσεύοντος (was abounding) αὐτοῖς (to them) ἔβαλον (cast) εἰς (in) τὰ (the) δῶρα (gifts); αὕτη (she) δὲ (however), ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (the) ὑστερήματος (poverty) αὐτῆς (of her), πάντα (all) τὸν (the) βίον (livelihood) ὃν (that) εἶχεν (she had) ἔβαλεν (did cast).”

⁴⁵ καὶ (and) τὰ (the) κτήματα (possessions) καὶ (and) τὰς (the) ὑπάρξεις (goods) ἐπίπρασκον (they were selling) καὶ (and) διεμέριζον (were dividing) αὐτὰ (them) πᾶσιν (to all), καθότι (as) ἄν (-) τις (anyone) χρείαν (need) εἶχεν (had). ⁴⁶ Καθ’ (Every) ἡμέραν (day) τε (and) προσκαρτεροῦντες (steadfastly continuing) ὁμοθυμαδὸν (with one accord) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ἱερῷ (temple), κλῶντές (breaking) τε (then) κατ’ (at each) οἶκον (house) ἄρτον (bread), μετελάμβανον (they were partaking) τροφῆς (of food) ἐν (with) ἀγαλλιάσει (gladness) καὶ (and) ἀφελότητι (sincerity) καρδίας (of heart),

⁸ εἴτε (or) ὁ (-) παρακαλῶν (exhorting), ἐν (in) τῇ (the) παρακλήσει (exhortation); ὁ (-) μεταδιδοὺς (giving), ἐν (in) ἁπλότητι (generosity); ὁ (-) προϊστάμενος (leading), ἐν (with) σπουδῇ (diligence); ὁ (-) ἐλεῶν (showing mercy), ἐν (with) ἱλαρότητι (cheerfulness).

¹² Ἡ (-) γὰρ (For) καύχησις (the boasting) ἡμῶν (of us) αὕτη (this) ἐστίν (is), τὸ (the) μαρτύριον (testimony) τῆς (of the) συνειδήσεως (conscience) ἡμῶν (of us), ὅτι (that) ἐν (in) ἁγιότητι (the holiness) καὶ (and) εἰλικρινείᾳ (sincerity) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), [καὶ] (and) οὐκ (not) ἐν (in) σοφίᾳ (wisdom) σαρκικῇ (fleshly), ἀλλ’ (but) ἐν (in) χάριτι (the grace) Θεοῦ (of God), ἀνεστράφημεν (we have conducted ourselves) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) κόσμῳ (world), περισσοτέρως (more abundantly) δὲ (now) πρὸς (toward) ὑμᾶς (you).

¹⁰ ὡς (as) λυπούμενοι (being sorrowful), ἀεὶ (always) δὲ (yet) χαίροντες (rejoicing); ὡς (as) πτωχοὶ (poor), πολλοὺς (many) δὲ (yet) πλουτίζοντες (enriching); ὡς (as) μηδὲν (nothing) ἔχοντες (having), καὶ (and yet) πάντα (all things) κατέχοντες (possessing).

¹¹ ἐν (in) παντὶ (every way) πλουτιζόμενοι (enriching you) εἰς (to) πᾶσαν (all) ἁπλότητα (generosity), ἥτις (which) κατεργάζεται (produces), δι’ (through) ἡμῶν (us), εὐχαριστίαν (thanksgiving) τῷ (-) Θεῷ (to God).

⁶ Καὶ (And) ὑμεῖς (you) μιμηταὶ (imitators) ἡμῶν (of us) ἐγενήθητε (became), καὶ (and) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord), δεξάμενοι (having received) τὸν (the) λόγον (word) ἐν (in) θλίψει (tribulation) πολλῇ (much), μετὰ (with) χαρᾶς (the joy) Πνεύματος (of the Spirit) Ἁγίου (Holy),

¹⁴ Ὑμεῖς (You) γὰρ (for) μιμηταὶ (imitators) ἐγενήθητε (became), ἀδελφοί (brothers), τῶν (of the) ἐκκλησιῶν (churches) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) τῶν (-) οὐσῶν (being) ἐν (in) τῇ (-) Ἰουδαίᾳ (Judea) ἐν (in) Χριστῷ (Christ) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus). ὅτι (For) τὰ (the same) αὐτὰ (as them), ἐπάθετε (suffered) καὶ (also) ὑμεῖς (you) ὑπὸ (from) τῶν (the) ἰδίων (own) συμφυλετῶν (countrymen), καθὼς (as) καὶ (also did) αὐτοὶ (they) ὑπὸ (from) τῶν (the) Ἰουδαίων (Jews),

³ τὸ (that) μηδένα (no one) σαίνεσθαι (be moved) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) θλίψεσιν (tribulations) ταύταις (these). αὐτοὶ (Yourselves) γὰρ (for) οἴδατε (you know) ὅτι (that) εἰς (for) τοῦτο (this) κείμεθα (we are destined). ⁴ καὶ (And) γὰρ (indeed), ὅτε (when) πρὸς (with) ὑμᾶς (you) ἦμεν (we were), προελέγομεν (we were telling beforehand) ὑμῖν (you) ὅτι (that) μέλλομεν (we are about) θλίβεσθαι (to suffer affliction), καθὼς (just as) καὶ (also) ἐγένετο (it came to pass), καὶ (and) οἴδατε (you know).

⁵ Ἀκούσατε (Listen), ἀδελφοί (brothers) μου (my) ἀγαπητοί (beloved). οὐχ (Not) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) ἐξελέξατο (has chosen) τοὺς (the) πτωχοὺς (poor) τῷ (-) κόσμῳ (in this world) πλουσίους (to be rich) ἐν (in) πίστει (faith) καὶ (and) κληρονόμους (heirs) τῆς (of the) βασιλείας (kingdom) ἧς (that) ἐπηγγείλατο (He promised) τοῖς (to those) ἀγαπῶσιν (loving) αὐτόν (Him)?

⁹ Οἶδά (I know) σου (your) τὴν (-) θλῖψιν (tribulation) καὶ (and) τὴν (-) πτωχείαν (poverty) — ἀλλὰ (but) πλούσιος (rich) εἶ (you are) — καὶ (and) τὴν (the) βλασφημίαν (slander) ἐκ (of) τῶν (those) λεγόντων (claiming) Ἰουδαίους (Jews) εἶναι (to be) ἑαυτούς (themselves), καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) εἰσίν (are), ἀλλὰ (but) συναγωγὴ (a synagogue) τοῦ (-) Σατανᾶ (of Satan).
