²⁶ ἅμα (At the same time) καὶ (also), ἐλπίζων (he is hoping) ὅτι (that) χρήματα (riches) δοθήσεται (will be given) αὐτῷ (him) ὑπὸ (by) τοῦ (-) Παύλου (Paul). διὸ (Therefore) καὶ (also) πυκνότερον (often) αὐτὸν (him) μεταπεμπόμενος (sending for), ὡμίλει (he was talking) αὐτῷ (with him).

² Κληθέντος (Having been called) δὲ (then) αὐτοῦ (of him), ἤρξατο (began) κατηγορεῖν (to accuse) ὁ (-) Τέρτυλλος (Tertullus), λέγων (saying), “Πολλῆς (Great) εἰρήνης (peace) τυγχάνοντες (we are attaining) διὰ (through) σοῦ (you), καὶ (and) διορθωμάτων (excellent measures) γινομένων (are being done) τῷ (to the) ἔθνει (nation) τούτῳ (this) διὰ (through) τῆς (-) σῆς (your) προνοίας (foresight), ³ πάντῃ (in every way) τε (both) καὶ (and) πανταχοῦ (everywhere), ἀποδεχόμεθα (we gladly accept it), κράτιστε (most excellent) Φῆλιξ (Felix), μετὰ (with) πάσης (all) εὐχαριστίας (thankfulness).

¹⁷ Δι’ (After) ἐτῶν (years) δὲ (now) πλειόνων (many), ἐλεημοσύνας (alms) ποιήσων (to bring) εἰς (to) τὸ (the) ἔθνος (nation) μου (of me), παρεγενόμην (I arrived), καὶ (and) προσφοράς (offerings),

⁹ Ἢ (Or) οὐκ (not) οἴδατε (know you) ὅτι (that) ἄδικοι (the unrighteous ones) Θεοῦ (of God) βασιλείαν (the kingdom) οὐ (not) κληρονομήσουσιν (will inherit)? μὴ (Not) πλανᾶσθε (be deceived): οὔτε (neither) πόρνοι (the sexually immoral), οὔτε (nor) εἰδωλολάτραι (idolaters), οὔτε (nor) μοιχοὶ (adulterers), οὔτε (nor) μαλακοὶ (effeminate), οὔτε (nor) ἀρσενοκοῖται (homosexuals),

⁵ τοῦτο (This) γὰρ (for) ἴστε (you know), γινώσκοντες (realizing) ὅτι (that) πᾶς (any) πόρνος (fornicator), ἢ (or) ἀκάθαρτος (unclean person), ἢ (or) πλεονέκτης (covetous man), ὅ (who) ἐστιν (is) εἰδωλολάτρης (an idolater), οὐκ (not) ἔχει (has) κληρονομίαν (inheritance) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) βασιλείᾳ (kingdom) τοῦ (-) Χριστοῦ (of Christ), καὶ (and) Θεοῦ (of God). ⁶ Μηδεὶς (No one) ὑμᾶς (you) ἀπατάτω (let deceive) κενοῖς (with empty) λόγοις (words), διὰ (because of) ταῦτα (these things) γὰρ (for) ἔρχεται (comes) ἡ (the) ὀργὴ (wrath) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) ἐπὶ (upon) τοὺς (the) υἱοὺς (sons) τῆς (-) ἀπειθείας (of disobedience).

⁹ Οἱ (Those) δὲ (however) βουλόμενοι (desiring) πλουτεῖν (to be rich) ἐμπίπτουσιν (fall) εἰς (into) πειρασμὸν (temptation) καὶ (and) παγίδα (a snare), καὶ (and) ἐπιθυμίας (desires) πολλὰς (many) ἀνοήτους (foolish) καὶ (and) βλαβεράς (harmful), αἵτινες (which) βυθίζουσιν (plunge) τοὺς (-) ἀνθρώπους (men) εἰς (into) ὄλεθρον (ruin) καὶ (and) ἀπώλειαν (destruction). ¹⁰ ῥίζα (A root) γὰρ (for) πάντων (of all kinds) τῶν (-) κακῶν (of evils) ἐστιν (is) ἡ (the) φιλαργυρία (love of money), ἧς (which) τινες (some) ὀρεγόμενοι (stretching after) ἀπεπλανήθησαν (have been seduced) ἀπὸ (away from) τῆς (the) πίστεως (faith), καὶ (and) ἑαυτοὺς (themselves) περιέπειραν (have pierced) ὀδύναις (with sorrows) πολλαῖς (many).

³ καὶ (And) ἐν (through) πλεονεξίᾳ (covetousness) πλαστοῖς (with fabricated) λόγοις (words) ὑμᾶς (you) ἐμπορεύσονται (they will exploit), οἷς (for whom) τὸ (the) κρίμα (judgment) ἔκπαλαι (of long ago) οὐκ (not) ἀργεῖ (is idle), καὶ (and) ἡ (the) ἀπώλεια (destruction) αὐτῶν (of them) οὐ (not) νυστάζει (slumbers).

¹⁴ ὀφθαλμοὺς (eyes) ἔχοντες (having) μεστοὺς (full) μοιχαλίδος (of adultery), καὶ (and) ἀκαταπαύστους (unceasing) ἁμαρτίας (from sin), δελεάζοντες (enticing) ψυχὰς (souls) ἀστηρίκτους (unestablished); καρδίαν (a heart) γεγυμνασμένην (having been exercised) πλεονεξίας (in craving) ἔχοντες (having)— κατάρας (of a curse) τέκνα (children)! ¹⁵ Καταλιπόντες (Having left) εὐθεῖαν (the straight) ὁδὸν (way), ἐπλανήθησαν (they have gone astray), ἐξακολουθήσαντες (having followed) τῇ (in the) ὁδῷ (way) τοῦ (-) Βαλαὰμ (of Balaam) τοῦ (-) Βοσὸρ* (son of Bosor), ὃς (who) μισθὸν (the wage) ἀδικίας (of unrighteousness) ἠγάπησεν (loved);
