²² Μωϋσῆς (Moses) μὲν (indeed) εἶπεν (said) ὅτι (-), ‘Προφήτην (A prophet) ὑμῖν (to you) ἀναστήσει (will raise up) Κύριος (the Lord) ὁ (the) Θεὸς (God) [ὑμῶν] (of you) ἐκ (out from) τῶν (the) ἀδελφῶν (brothers) ὑμῶν (of you), ὡς (like) ἐμέ (me); αὐτοῦ (Him) ἀκούσεσθε (You will listen to) κατὰ (in) πάντα (all things), ὅσα (as many as) ἂν (-) λαλήσῃ (He might say) πρὸς (to) ὑμᾶς (you).

⁴ ἀποκριθεὶς (Answering) δὲ (now), ὁ (-) Πέτρος (Peter) εἶπεν (said) τῷ (-) Ἰησοῦ (to Jesus), “Κύριε (Lord), καλόν (good) ἐστιν (it is) ἡμᾶς (for us) ὧδε (here) εἶναι (to be). εἰ (If) θέλεις (You wish), ποιήσω (I will make) ὧδε (here) τρεῖς (three) σκηνάς (tabernacles), σοὶ (for You) μίαν (one), καὶ (and) Μωϋσεῖ (for Moses) μίαν (one), καὶ (and) Ἠλίᾳ (for Elijah) μίαν (one).” ⁵ Ἔτι (While yet) αὐτοῦ (he) λαλοῦντος (was speaking), ἰδοὺ (behold), νεφέλη (a cloud) φωτεινὴ (bright) ἐπεσκίασεν (overshadowed) αὐτούς (them); καὶ (and) ἰδοὺ (behold), φωνὴ (a voice) ἐκ (out of) τῆς (the) νεφέλης (cloud), λέγουσα (saying), “Οὗτός (This) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) Υἱός (Son) μου (of Me), ὁ (the) ἀγαπητός (beloved), ἐν (in) ᾧ (whom) εὐδόκησα (I am well pleased). ἀκούετε (Listen) αὐτοῦ (to Him)!”

⁴ καὶ (And) ὤφθη (appeared) αὐτοῖς (to them) Ἠλίας (Elijah) σὺν (with) Μωϋσεῖ (Moses), καὶ (and) ἦσαν (they were) συλλαλοῦντες* (talking with) τῷ (-) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus). ⁵ Καὶ (And) ἀποκριθεὶς (answering), ὁ (-) Πέτρος (Peter) λέγει (says) τῷ (-) Ἰησοῦ (to Jesus), “Ῥαββί (Rabbi), καλόν (good) ἐστιν (it is) ἡμᾶς (for us) ὧδε (here) εἶναι (to be). καὶ (And) ποιήσωμεν (let us make) τρεῖς (three) σκηνάς (tabernacles): σοὶ (for You) μίαν (one), καὶ (and) Μωϋσεῖ (for Moses) μίαν (one), καὶ (and) Ἠλίᾳ (for Elijah) μίαν (one).” ⁶ οὐ (Not) γὰρ (for) ᾔδει (he knew) τί (what) ἀποκριθῇ (he should say); ἔκφοβοι (terrified) γὰρ (for) ἐγένοντο (they were). ⁷ Καὶ (And) ἐγένετο (there came) νεφέλη (a cloud) ἐπισκιάζουσα (overshadowing) αὐτοῖς (them), καὶ (and) ἐγένετο (there came) φωνὴ (a voice) ἐκ (out of) τῆς (the) νεφέλης (cloud): “Οὗτός (This) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) Υἱός (Son) μου (of Me), ὁ (the) ἀγαπητός (beloved); ἀκούετε (listen you) αὐτοῦ (to Him).”

³⁰ καὶ (And) ἰδοὺ (behold), ἄνδρες (men) δύο (two) συνελάλουν (began talking with) αὐτῷ (Him), οἵτινες (who) ἦσαν (were) Μωϋσῆς (Moses) καὶ (and) Ἠλίας (Elijah). ³¹ οἳ (Those) ὀφθέντες (having appeared) ἐν (in) δόξῃ (glory) ἔλεγον (were speaking of) τὴν (the) ἔξοδον (going out) αὐτοῦ (of Him), ἣν (which) ἤμελλεν (He was about) πληροῦν (to accomplish) ἐν (in) Ἰερουσαλήμ (Jerusalem). ³² Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) Πέτρος (Peter) καὶ (and) οἱ (those) σὺν (with) αὐτῷ (him) ἦσαν (were) βεβαρημένοι (heavy) ὕπνῳ (with sleep); διαγρηγορήσαντες (having awoken fully) δὲ (then) εἶδον* (they saw) τὴν (the) δόξαν (glory) αὐτοῦ (of Him), καὶ (and) τοὺς (the) δύο (two) ἄνδρας (men) τοὺς (-) συνεστῶτας (standing with) αὐτῷ (Him). ³³ καὶ (And) ἐγένετο (it came to pass) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) διαχωρίζεσθαι (departing) αὐτοὺς (of them) ἀπ’ (from) αὐτοῦ (Him), εἶπεν (said) ὁ (-) Πέτρος (Peter) πρὸς (to) τὸν (-) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus), “Ἐπιστάτα (Master), καλόν (good) ἐστιν (it is) ἡμᾶς (for us) ὧδε (here) εἶναι (to be); καὶ (also) ποιήσωμεν (let us make) σκηνὰς (tabernacles) τρεῖς (three): μίαν (one) σοὶ (for You), καὶ (and) μίαν (one) Μωϋσεῖ (for Moses), καὶ (and) μίαν (one) Ἠλίᾳ (for Elijah),” μὴ (not) εἰδὼς (knowing) ὃ (what) λέγει (he is saying). ³⁴ Ταῦτα (These things) δὲ (then) αὐτοῦ (as he) λέγοντος (is saying), ἐγένετο (came) νεφέλη (a cloud) καὶ (and) ἐπεσκίαζεν (was overshadowing) αὐτούς (them); ἐφοβήθησαν (they feared) δὲ (then) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) εἰσελθεῖν (entering) αὐτοὺς (of them) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) νεφέλην (cloud). ³⁵ καὶ (And) φωνὴ (a voice) ἐγένετο (came) ἐκ (out of) τῆς (the) νεφέλης (cloud), λέγουσα (saying), “Οὗτός (This) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) Υἱός (Son) μου (of Me), ὁ (-) ἐκλελεγμένος (whom I have chosen); αὐτοῦ (Him) ἀκούετε (listen to)!”

³³ πλὴν (But) δεῖ (it behooves) με (Me) σήμερον (today) καὶ (and) αὔριον (tomorrow) καὶ (and) τῇ (the day) ἐχομένῃ (following) πορεύεσθαι (to proceed); ὅτι (for) οὐκ (not) ἐνδέχεται (it is possible for) προφήτην (a prophet) ἀπολέσθαι (to perish) ἔξω (outside of) Ἰερουσαλήμ (Jerusalem).

¹⁹ Καὶ (And) εἶπεν (He said) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Ποῖα (What things)?” οἱ (-) Δὲ (And) εἶπαν (they said) αὐτῷ (to Him), “Τὰ (The things) περὶ (concerning) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) τοῦ (of) Ναζαρηνοῦ (Nazareth), ὃς (who) ἐγένετο (was) ἀνὴρ (a man), προφήτης (a prophet) δυνατὸς (mighty) ἐν (in) ἔργῳ (deed) καὶ (and) λόγῳ (word) ἐναντίον (before) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God) καὶ (and) παντὸς (all) τοῦ (the) λαοῦ (people);

¹⁷ ὅτι (For) ὁ (the) νόμος (law) διὰ (through) Μωϋσέως (Moses) ἐδόθη (was given); ἡ (-) χάρις (grace) καὶ (and) ἡ (-) ἀλήθεια (truth) διὰ (through) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ) ἐγένετο (came).

²⁴ Ἀμὴν (Truly), ἀμὴν (truly) λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you) ὅτι (that) ὁ (the one) τὸν (the) λόγον (word) μου (of Me) ἀκούων (hearing), καὶ (and) πιστεύων (believing) τῷ (the One) πέμψαντί (having sent) με (Me), ἔχει (he has) ζωὴν (life) αἰώνιον (eternal) καὶ (and) εἰς (into) κρίσιν (judgment) οὐκ (not) ἔρχεται (comes), ἀλλὰ (but) μεταβέβηκεν (has passed) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (-) θανάτου (death) εἰς (into) τὴν (-) ζωήν (life).

³⁹ Ἐραυνᾶτε (You diligently search) τὰς (the) γραφάς (Scriptures), ὅτι (for) ὑμεῖς (you) δοκεῖτε (think) ἐν (in) αὐταῖς (them) ζωὴν (life) αἰώνιον (eternal) ἔχειν (to have); καὶ (and) ἐκεῖναί (these) εἰσιν (are they) αἱ (-) μαρτυροῦσαι (bearing witness) περὶ (concerning) ἐμοῦ (Me); ⁴⁰ καὶ (and) οὐ (not) θέλετε (you are willing) ἐλθεῖν (to come) πρός (to) με (Me) ἵνα (that) ζωὴν (life) ἔχητε (you may have). ⁴¹ Δόξαν (Glory) παρὰ (from) ἀνθρώπων (men) οὐ (not) λαμβάνω (I take); ⁴² ἀλλὰ (but) ἔγνωκα (I have known) ὑμᾶς (you), ὅτι (that) τὴν (the) ἀγάπην (love) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) οὐκ (not) ἔχετε (you have) ἐν (in) ἑαυτοῖς (yourselves). ⁴³ ἐγὼ (I) ἐλήλυθα (have come) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ὀνόματι (name) τοῦ (of the) Πατρός (Father) μου (of Me), καὶ (and) οὐ (not) λαμβάνετέ (you receive) με (Me); ἐὰν (if) ἄλλος (another) ἔλθῃ (should come) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ὀνόματι (name) τῷ (the) ἰδίῳ (own), ἐκεῖνον (him) λήμψεσθε (you will receive). ⁴⁴ πῶς (How) δύνασθε (are able) ὑμεῖς (you) πιστεῦσαι (to believe), δόξαν (glory) παρὰ (from) ἀλλήλων (one another) λαμβάνοντες (receiving), καὶ (and) τὴν (the) δόξαν (glory) τὴν (that is) παρὰ (from) τοῦ (the) μόνου (only) Θεοῦ (God), οὐ (not) ζητεῖτε (you seek)? ⁴⁵ Μὴ (Not) δοκεῖτε (think) ὅτι (that) ἐγὼ (I) κατηγορήσω (will accuse) ὑμῶν (you) πρὸς (to) τὸν (the) Πατέρα (Father). ἔστιν (There is) ὁ (one) κατηγορῶν (accusing) ὑμῶν (you), Μωϋσῆς (Moses), εἰς (in) ὃν (whom) ὑμεῖς (you) ἠλπίκατε (have hoped). ⁴⁶ εἰ (If) γὰρ (for) ἐπιστεύετε (you were believing) Μωϋσεῖ (Moses), ἐπιστεύετε (you would have believed) ἂν (-) ἐμοί (Me); περὶ (concerning) γὰρ (for) ἐμοῦ (Me) ἐκεῖνος (he) ἔγραψεν (wrote). ⁴⁷ εἰ (If) δὲ (now) τοῖς (-) ἐκείνου (his) γράμμασιν (writings) οὐ (not) πιστεύετε (you believe), πῶς (how) τοῖς (-) ἐμοῖς (My) ῥήμασιν (words) πιστεύσετε (will you believe)?”

¹² Πάλιν (Again) οὖν (therefore) αὐτοῖς (to them) ἐλάλησεν (spoke) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), λέγων (saying), “Ἐγώ (I) εἰμι (am) τὸ (the) φῶς (light) τοῦ (of the) κόσμου (world); ὁ (the one) ἀκολουθῶν (following) ἐμοὶ* (Me) οὐ (no) μὴ (not) περιπατήσῃ (shall walk) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) σκοτίᾳ (darkness), ἀλλ’ (but) ἕξει (will have) τὸ (the) φῶς (light) τῆς (-) ζωῆς (of life).”

⁴⁶ ἐγὼ (I) φῶς (a light) εἰς (into) τὸν (the) κόσμον (world) ἐλήλυθα (have come), ἵνα (so that) πᾶς (everyone) ὁ (-) πιστεύων (believing) εἰς (in) ἐμὲ (Me), ἐν (in) τῇ (the) σκοτίᾳ (darkness) μὴ (not) μείνῃ (should abide).

³⁷ Οὗτός (This) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) Μωϋσῆς (Moses) ὁ (-) εἴπας (having said) τοῖς (to the) υἱοῖς (sons) Ἰσραήλ (of Israel), ‘Προφήτην (A prophet) ὑμῖν (for you) ἀναστήσει (will raise up) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) ἐκ (out from) τῶν (the) ἀδελφῶν (brothers) ὑμῶν (of you), ὡς (like) ἐμέ (me).’

³ τὸ (-) γὰρ (For) ἀδύνατον (powerless being) τοῦ (the) νόμου (law), ἐν (in) ᾧ (that) ἠσθένει (it was weak) διὰ (through) τῆς (the) σαρκός (flesh), ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God), τὸν (-) ἑαυτοῦ (of Himself) Υἱὸν (Son) πέμψας (having sent), ἐν (in) ὁμοιώματι (likeness) σαρκὸς (of flesh) ἁμαρτίας (of sin), καὶ (and) περὶ (for) ἁμαρτίας (sin), κατέκρινεν (condemned) τὴν (-) ἁμαρτίαν (sin) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) σαρκί (flesh),

⁵ ὧν (whose are) οἱ (the) πατέρες (patriarchs); καὶ (and) ἐξ (from) ὧν (whom is) ὁ (-) Χριστὸς (Christ) τὸ (-) κατὰ (according to) σάρκα (the flesh), ὁ (-) ὢν (being) ἐπὶ (over) πάντων (all) Θεὸς (God), εὐλογητὸς (blessed) εἰς (to) τοὺς (the) αἰῶνας (ages). ἀμήν (Amen).

⁴ Ὅτε (When) δὲ (however) ἦλθεν (had come) τὸ (the) πλήρωμα (fullness) τοῦ (of the) χρόνου (time), ἐξαπέστειλεν (sent forth) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) τὸν (the) Υἱὸν (Son) αὐτοῦ (of him), γενόμενον (having been born) ἐκ (of) γυναικός (a woman), γενόμενον (having been born) ὑπὸ (under) νόμον (the Law),

¹ Πολυμερῶς (In many portions) καὶ (and) πολυτρόπως (in many ways), πάλαι (long ago) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) λαλήσας (having spoken) τοῖς (to the) πατράσιν (fathers) ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) προφήταις (prophets), ² ἐπ’ (in) ἐσχάτου (last) τῶν (-) ἡμερῶν (days) τούτων (these) ἐλάλησεν (has spoken) ἡμῖν (to us) ἐν (in) Υἱῷ (His Son), ὃν (whom) ἔθηκεν (He appointed) κληρονόμον (heir) πάντων (of all things), δι’ (through) οὗ (whom) καὶ (also) ἐποίησεν (He made) τοὺς (the) αἰῶνας (ages),

¹ Διὰ (Because of) τοῦτο (this), δεῖ (it behooves) περισσοτέρως (more abundantly) προσέχειν (to give heed) ἡμᾶς (us) τοῖς (to the things) ἀκουσθεῖσιν (we have heard), μή‿ (lest) ποτε (ever) παραρυῶμεν (we should drift away).

⁹ τὸν (Who) δὲ (however) βραχύ (a little) τι (one) παρ’ (than) ἀγγέλους (the angels), ἠλαττωμένον (having been made lower), βλέπομεν (we see), Ἰησοῦν (Jesus), διὰ (because of) τὸ (the) πάθημα (suffering) τοῦ (-) θανάτου (of death), δόξῃ (with glory) καὶ (and) τιμῇ (with honor) ἐστεφανωμένον (having been crowned), ὅπως (so that) χάριτι (by the grace) Θεοῦ (of God) ὑπὲρ (for) παντὸς (everyone) γεύσηται (He might taste) θανάτου (death). ¹⁰ Ἔπρεπεν (It was fitting) γὰρ (for) αὐτῷ (to Him), δι’ (for) ὃν (whom are) τὰ (-) πάντα (all things) καὶ (and) δι’ (by) οὗ (whom are) τὰ (-) πάντα (all things), πολλοὺς (many) υἱοὺς (sons) εἰς (to) δόξαν (glory) ἀγαγόντα (having brought), τὸν (the) ἀρχηγὸν (archetype) τῆς (of the) σωτηρίας (salvation) αὐτῶν (of them), διὰ (through) παθημάτων (sufferings) τελειῶσαι (to make perfect). ¹¹ ὅ (The One) τε (both) γὰρ (for) ἁγιάζων (sanctifying), καὶ (and) οἱ (those) ἁγιαζόμενοι (being sanctified), ἐξ (of) ἑνὸς (one) πάντες (are all); δι’ (for) ἣν (which) αἰτίαν (reason), οὐκ (not) ἐπαισχύνεται (He is ashamed) ἀδελφοὺς (brothers) αὐτοὺς (them) καλεῖν (to call), ¹² λέγων (saying): “Ἀπαγγελῶ (I will declare) τὸ (the) ὄνομά (name) σου (of You) τοῖς (to the) ἀδελφοῖς (brothers) μου (of Me); ἐν (in) μέσῳ (the midst) ἐκκλησίας (of the congregation) ὑμνήσω (I will sing praises) σε (of you).” ¹³ Καὶ (And) πάλιν (again): “Ἐγὼ (I) ἔσομαι (will be) πεποιθὼς (trusting) ἐπ’ (in) αὐτῷ (Him).” Καὶ (And) πάλιν (again): “Ἰδοὺ (Behold), ἐγὼ (I) καὶ (and) τὰ (the) παιδία (children) ἅ (whom) μοι (to Me) ἔδωκεν (has given) ὁ (-) Θεός (God).” ¹⁴ Ἐπεὶ (Since) οὖν (therefore) τὰ (the) παιδία (children) κεκοινώνηκεν (have partaken) αἵματος (of blood) καὶ (and) σαρκός (of flesh) καὶ (also), αὐτὸς (He) παραπλησίως (likewise) μετέσχεν (took part in) τῶν (the) αὐτῶν (same things), ἵνα (so that) διὰ (through) τοῦ (His) θανάτου (death), καταργήσῃ (He might destroy) τὸν (the one) τὸ (the) κράτος (power) ἔχοντα (holding) τοῦ (-) θανάτου (of death), τοῦτ’ (that) ἔστιν (is), τὸν (the) διάβολον (devil), ¹⁵ καὶ (and) ἀπαλλάξῃ (might set free) τούτους (those) ὅσοι (who) φόβῳ (fear) θανάτου (of death) διὰ (through) παντὸς (all) τοῦ (their time) ζῆν (to live), ἔνοχοι (subject) ἦσαν (were) δουλείας (to slavery). ¹⁶ Οὐ (Not) γὰρ (for) δή‿ (surely) που (in that place) ἀγγέλων (the angels) ἐπιλαμβάνεται (He helps), ἀλλὰ (but) σπέρματος (the seed) Ἀβραὰμ (of Abraham) ἐπιλαμβάνεται (He helps). ¹⁷ ὅθεν (Therefore) ὤφειλεν (it behooved Him) κατὰ (in) πάντα (all things) τοῖς (His) ἀδελφοῖς (brothers) ὁμοιωθῆναι (to be made like), ἵνα (so that) ἐλεήμων (a merciful) γένηται (He might become), καὶ (and) πιστὸς (faithful), ἀρχιερεὺς (high priest) τὰ (in things) πρὸς (relating to) τὸν (-) Θεόν (God), εἰς (in order) τὸ (-) ἱλάσκεσθαι (to make propitiation for) τὰς (the) ἁμαρτίας (sins) τοῦ (of the) λαοῦ (people).

⁹ καὶ (and) τελειωθεὶς (having been perfected), ἐγένετο (He became) πᾶσιν (to all) τοῖς (those) ὑπακούουσιν (obeying) αὐτῷ (Him), αἴτιος (the author) σωτηρίας (of salvation) αἰωνίου (eternal),
