¹⁷ ἀλλ’ (But) ἵνα (that) μὴ (not) ἐπὶ (on) πλεῖον (further) διανεμηθῇ (it might spread) εἰς (among) τὸν (the) λαόν (people), ἀπειλησώμεθα (let us warn) αὐτοῖς (them) μηκέτι (no longer) λαλεῖν (to speak) ἐπὶ (in) τῷ (the) ὀνόματι (name) τούτῳ (this) μηδενὶ (to no) ἀνθρώπων (man).”

⁶⁴ κέλευσον (Command) οὖν (therefore) ἀσφαλισθῆναι (to be secured) τὸν (the) τάφον (tomb) ἕως (until) τῆς (the) τρίτης (third) ἡμέρας (day), μή‿ (lest) ποτε (ever) ἐλθόντες (having come), οἱ (the) μαθηταὶ (disciples) ‹αὐτοῦ› (of Him) κλέψωσιν (steal away) αὐτὸν (him) καὶ (and) εἴπωσιν (say) τῷ (to the) λαῷ (people), ‘Ἠγέρθη (He is risen) ἀπὸ (from) τῶν (the) νεκρῶν (dead).’ καὶ (And) ἔσται (will be) ἡ (the) ἐσχάτη (last) πλάνη (deception) χείρων (worse) τῆς (than the) πρώτης (first).”

⁴⁷ Συνήγαγον (Gathered) οὖν (therefore) οἱ (the) ἀρχιερεῖς (chief priests) καὶ (and) οἱ (the) Φαρισαῖοι (Pharisees) συνέδριον (a council), καὶ (and) ἔλεγον (they were saying), “Τί (What) ποιοῦμεν (are we to do)? ὅτι (For) οὗτος (this) ὁ (-) ἄνθρωπος (man) πολλὰ (many) ποιεῖ (does) σημεῖα (signs). ⁴⁸ ἐὰν (If) ἀφῶμεν (we shall let him alone) αὐτὸν (Him) οὕτως (like this), πάντες (all) πιστεύσουσιν (will believe) εἰς (in) αὐτόν (Him), καὶ (and) ἐλεύσονται (will come) οἱ (the) Ῥωμαῖοι (Romans) καὶ (and) ἀροῦσιν (will take away) ἡμῶν (of us) καὶ (both) τὸν (the) τόπον (place) καὶ (and) τὸ (the) ἔθνος (nation).”

²¹ Οἱ (-) δὲ (And) προσαπειλησάμενοι (having further threatened them), ἀπέλυσαν (they let go) αὐτούς (them), μηδὲν (nothing) εὑρίσκοντες (finding) τὸ (the) πῶς (how) κολάσωνται (they might punish) αὐτούς (them), διὰ (on account of) τὸν (the) λαόν (people), ὅτι (because) πάντες (all) ἐδόξαζον (were glorifying) τὸν (-) Θεὸν (God) ἐπὶ (for) τῷ (that) γεγονότι (having happened);

²⁹ καὶ (And) τὰ (-) νῦν (now), Κύριε (Lord), ἔπιδε (look) ἐπὶ (upon) τὰς (the) ἀπειλὰς (threats) αὐτῶν (of them), καὶ (and) δὸς (grant) τοῖς (to the) δούλοις (servants) σου (of You) μετὰ (with) παρρησίας (boldness) πάσης (all) λαλεῖν (to speak) τὸν (the) λόγον (word) σου (of You), ³⁰ ἐν (in) τῷ (that) τὴν (the) χεῖρά (hand) ‹σου› (of You) ἐκτείνειν (stretch out) σε (You) εἰς (for) ἴασιν (healing), καὶ (and) σημεῖα (signs) καὶ (and) τέρατα (wonders) γίνεσθαι (to take place), διὰ (through) τοῦ (the) ὀνόματος (name) τοῦ (of the) ἁγίου (holy) Παιδός (servant) σου (of You), Ἰησοῦ (Jesus).”

²⁴ Ὡς (When) δὲ (now) ἤκουσαν (they heard) τοὺς (the) λόγους (words) τούτους (these), ὅ (-) τε (both) στρατηγὸς (the captain) τοῦ (of the) ἱεροῦ (temple) καὶ (and) οἱ (the) ἀρχιερεῖς (chief priests) διηπόρουν (were perplexed) περὶ (concerning) αὐτῶν (them), τί (what) ἂν (-) γένοιτο (might be) τοῦτο (this).

²⁸ λέγων (saying), “[Οὐ] (Not) Παραγγελίᾳ (by a charge) παρηγγείλαμεν (we commanded) ὑμῖν (you) μὴ (not) διδάσκειν (to teach) ἐπὶ (in) τῷ (the) ὀνόματι (name) τούτῳ (this)? καὶ (And) ἰδοὺ (behold), πεπληρώκατε (you have filled) τὴν (-) Ἰερουσαλὴμ (Jerusalem) τῆς (with the) διδαχῆς (teaching) ὑμῶν (of you), καὶ (and) βούλεσθε (you intend) ἐπαγαγεῖν (to bring) ἐφ’ (upon) ἡμᾶς (us) τὸ (the) αἷμα (blood) τοῦ (of the) ἀνθρώπου (man) τούτου (this).”

³⁹ εἰ (if) δὲ (however) ἐκ (from) Θεοῦ (God) ἐστιν (it is), οὐ (not) δυνήσεσθε (you will be able) καταλῦσαι (to overthrow) αὐτούς (them), μή‿ (lest) ποτε (ever) καὶ (also) θεομάχοι (fighting against God) εὑρεθῆτε (You would be found).” ⁴⁰ Ἐπείσθησαν (They were persuaded) δὲ (now) αὐτῷ (by him); καὶ (and) προσκαλεσάμενοι (having called in) τοὺς (the) ἀποστόλους (apostles), δείραντες (having beaten), παρήγγειλαν (they commanded them) μὴ (not) λαλεῖν (to speak) ἐπὶ (in) τῷ (the) ὀνόματι (name) τοῦ (-) Ἰησοῦ (of Jesus), καὶ (and) ἀπέλυσαν (released them).

¹⁶ Ἀλλ’ (But) οὐ (not) πάντες (all) ὑπήκουσαν (heeded) τῷ (the) εὐαγγελίῳ (good news). Ἠσαΐας (Isaiah) γὰρ (for) λέγει (says), “Κύριε (Lord), τίς (who) ἐπίστευσεν (has believed) τῇ (the) ἀκοῇ (report) ἡμῶν (of us)?” ¹⁷ ἄρα (So) ἡ (-) πίστις (faith is) ἐξ (from) ἀκοῆς (hearing), ἡ (-) δὲ (and) ἀκοὴ (hearing) διὰ (through) ῥήματος (the word) Χριστοῦ (of Christ). ¹⁸ Ἀλλὰ (But) λέγω (I ask), μὴ (no) οὐκ (not) ἤκουσαν (did they hear)? μενοῦνγε (Indeed): “Εἰς (Into) πᾶσαν (all) τὴν (the) γῆν (earth) ἐξῆλθεν (has gone out) ὁ (the) φθόγγος (voice) αὐτῶν (of them); καὶ (and) εἰς (to) τὰ (the) πέρατα (ends) τῆς (of the) οἰκουμένης (world), τὰ (the) ῥήματα (words) αὐτῶν (of them).”

¹⁸ οὐ (Not) γὰρ (for) τολμήσω (will I dare) τι (anything) λαλεῖν (to speak of), ὧν (what) οὐ (except) κατειργάσατο (has accomplished) Χριστὸς (Christ) δι’ (through) ἐμοῦ (me), εἰς (unto the) ὑπακοὴν (obedience) ἐθνῶν (of the Gentiles), λόγῳ (by word) καὶ (and) ἔργῳ (deed), ¹⁹ ἐν (in the) δυνάμει (power) σημείων (of signs) καὶ (and) τεράτων (wonders), ἐν (in the) δυνάμει (power) Πνεύματος (of the Spirit) [θεοῦ] (of God); ὥστε (so as) με (for me) ἀπὸ (from) Ἰερουσαλὴμ (Jerusalem), καὶ (and) κύκλῳ (around) μέχρι (unto) τοῦ (-) Ἰλλυρικοῦ (Illyricum), πεπληρωκέναι (to have fully proclaimed) τὸ (the) εὐαγγέλιον (gospel) τοῦ (-) Χριστοῦ (of Christ), ²⁰ οὕτως (thus) δὲ (now) φιλοτιμούμενον (being ambitious) εὐαγγελίζεσθαι (to preach the gospel) οὐχ (not) ὅπου (where) ὠνομάσθη (had been named) Χριστός (Christ), ἵνα (so that) μὴ (not) ἐπ’ (upon) ἀλλότριον (another’s) θεμέλιον (foundation) οἰκοδομῶ (I might build). ²¹ ἀλλὰ (Rather), καθὼς (as) γέγραπται (it has been written): “Ὄψονται (They will see), «οἷς (to whom) οὐκ (not) ἀνηγγέλη (it was proclaimed) περὶ (concerning) αὐτοῦ» (Him); καὶ (and) οἳ (those that) οὐκ (not) ἀκηκόασιν (have heard) συνήσουσιν (will understand).” ²² Διὸ (Therefore) καὶ (also) ἐνεκοπτόμην (I have been hindered) τὰ (-) πολλὰ (many times) τοῦ (-) ἐλθεῖν (to come) πρὸς (to) ὑμᾶς (you).

⁸ ἀφ’ (From) ὑμῶν (you) γὰρ (for) ἐξήχηται (has sounded forth) ὁ (the) λόγος (word) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord), οὐ (not) μόνον (only) ἐν (in) τῇ (-) Μακεδονίᾳ (Macedonia) καὶ (and) [ἐν (in) τῇ] (-) Ἀχαΐᾳ (Achaia), ἀλλ’ (but) ἐν (in) παντὶ (every) τόπῳ (place) ἡ (the) πίστις (faith) ὑμῶν (of you) ἡ (-) πρὸς (toward) τὸν (-) Θεὸν (God) ἐξελήλυθεν (has gone abroad), ὥστε (so as for) μὴ (no) χρείαν (need) ἔχειν (to have) ἡμᾶς (us) λαλεῖν (to say) τι (anything).

¹⁵ τῶν (who) καὶ (both) τὸν (the) Κύριον (Lord) ἀποκτεινάντων (having killed), Ἰησοῦν (Jesus), καὶ (and) τοὺς (their own) προφήτας (prophets), καὶ (and) ἡμᾶς (us) ἐκδιωξάντων (having driven out), καὶ (and) Θεῷ (God) μὴ (not) ἀρεσκόντων (pleasing), καὶ (and) πᾶσιν (all) ἀνθρώποις (men) ἐναντίων (who are set against), ¹⁶ κωλυόντων (hindering) ἡμᾶς (us) τοῖς (to the) ἔθνεσιν (Gentiles) λαλῆσαι (to speak), ἵνα (that) σωθῶσιν (they might be saved), εἰς (so as) τὸ (-) ἀναπληρῶσαι (to fill up) αὐτῶν (their) τὰς (-) ἁμαρτίας (sins) πάντοτε (always). ἔφθασεν (Has come) δὲ (now) ἐπ’ (upon) αὐτοὺς (them) ἡ (the) ὀργὴ (wrath) εἰς (to the) τέλος (utmost).
